Quinnipiac Accelerated Program 2012
Hi guys, I'm hoping you could share your experience with me. I’m interested in an accelerated nursing program (I have a bachelors in biology) but I’m worried about finances. I already have about 50K in debt from undergrad and QU seems expensive. Anyone in my same boat? If so, how are you financing your education? Did you have a savings? Are you living with anyone? Any details will definitely help!

Accepted at Bridgeport Hospital
Congrats to you all! I'm curious what you guys all got on your TEAS? And do you know if there is a waiting list? I'm getting really anxious because I haven't heard anything yet, and I thought I did pretty well... Hopefully I'll find out soon and see some of you in fall!

CT Colleges Ready to apply for 2009!!
I took the exam on saturday and I checked the following week on the ATIT website and the scores were up. Do you know the stats on acceptance rates, etc.? I've been accepted to other schools but BHSN is my top choice, so I'm hoping we'll find out soon if we are accepted so I can wait to put a deposit down elsewhere....frustration setting in!

Anyone applying to Yale GEPN program for Fall 2009?
It is nice to hear other peoples' backgrounds and interests. I'm still an undergrad completing a major in molecular cell biology. I thought I wanted to do research and realized I hate being in the lab and I really need a career working with people. I personally want to practice critical/acute care. I love the thrill of the ED, but I know after years of the fast pace, it'll wear me out... so then I hope to work with the terminally ill and practice more holistic-type medicine. I don't have very "hands-on" patient care experience either. I work at a chiropractic office and I love it, but I really only get to initiate biofeedback training and other physiotherapies. I have volunteered and shadowed a variety of places to get a feel for where I want to be, however. I really loved working with life star and the trauma clinic and so I hope to be working with trauma patients in a few years! what are your stories?

CT Colleges Ready to apply for 2009!!
Thanks for the great info! My situation is a little different, and although I love the community college setting, I ideally want to have an RN in 1 year... I've already gotten my associates at Manchester community and will have my B.S. in Biology from UCONN this may. Do you think if I apply to Bridgeport that I will have my ASN upon completion? Then if I do choose to become an APRN (which is my ultimate goal), I could always do an RN to BSN program and then do my masters from there.... I just feel like I'm going in circles with school, and I just want to be done already! hopefully I'll get into a BSN program, but my GPA isn't the greatest, so I'm very skeptical

welcome to the forum! I'm glad there's another user sharing in my GRE frustrations. My gpa isn't the greatest and I'm hoping this will be a booster too. I'm trying to figure out the best way to study. It's stressing me out while I'm taking classes... We all feel your frustration here! How long have you been working for NPs? What's your position there? Also, how many schools are you all planing to apply for? I want to have a back up plan but want to stay local, but the only other options do not offer direct entry masters... Best of luck to all of you.

CT Colleges Ready to apply for 2009!!
Hi! I stumbled across this post and had a few questions. -Bridgeport Hospital offers a certificate program. With this degree would it be possible to eventually get your APRN if you have a B.S. in another field? I'm interested in Bridgeport but with my ultimate goal of becoming an NP, I believe you need your BSN... Any advice on schools that offer accelerated programs for non-nursing majors? I've looked at Yale, Southern, Quinnipiac and Fairfield. Any I'm missing?

RN Certificate Program???Please Help Me!
Hi! I'm from CT and am contemplating going to an accelerated certificate program here. From my understanding, as long as you pass the NCLEX you are are certified to work in any state in the US. My only concern is if you ultimately want to pursue APRN, you need a BSN. All the best!

Thanks ExpatHopeful, I've always been interested in oncology but for some reason forgot to link that field to acute care because it is so maintenance oriented. Your advice was perfect, THANKS! What hospital do you work for now? have you had experience with womens' health there just as you've seen the palliative care nurses? I think you'd be pretty much guaranteed a job as a WHNP. there are tons of womens clinics out there and the field is growing. Stay on this track if it's what you ultimately want to do, no sense dealing with finicky kids if its not up your alley! all the best!

One more thing: I ultimately want to be an NP as well...deciding my specialty is really stressing me out. I love the thrill of the E.R. but ultimately my 10-20 yr goal is to have my own practice dealing with holistic type medicine and pain management for a more maintenance care level... Do you guys think maybe: "adult community care" nursing would be a better specialty for this? That way I would probably not be in a hospital setting and dealing more with the disadvantaged public. My only real experience with NPs have been in clinical practice settings, womens health and life star. How are you guys choosing?

hey sprinkelz, I agree with expathopeful, get a recommendation from anyone that knows you will and you know will write you a good recommendation, I really don't think the "no name" school matters, what matters is what they write. When asking professors I only had for one semester I asked: "Do you think you know my work well enough to write me a good recommendation?" becasue a lot of professors can write a generic recommendation, it's part of their job description, but you want one that is going to be meaningful. If you took any writing classes, ask those teachers too, or have them edit your essay, a lot are more willing than you might expect! try hitting up your employers as well or any volunteer service you've done. Also, Thanks for the nimber2 site, that's exactly what I've been looking for!
