  1. yes, we have been told there are too many RN's in our UC, will be replaced with LPN/paramedics as RN's leave or retire. now the ambulance services are running short on paramedics! really makes no sense.
  2. I love RT too! But unfortunately they are not around in the clinic. Have always used oxygen in Urgent Care and the ED. ( we have oxygen in all the rooms but not air). Have been trying to find policies or evidence based research on this topic with no luck. With the push for single use patient supplies it just seems wrong to use the same nebulizer on multiple patients! Maybe its just me, but yuck.
  3. How do you administer breathing treatments at your facility? We have always used oxygen but currently there is a debate about changing to a nebulizer that you need to take in to each patients room. Any thoughts ? any research out there? Thanks!
  4. I most definitely agree with always checking the info for yourself.... I would suggest reading the package inserts that come with the meds. If you don't have it available contact your pharmacist and ask to have it sent to you. I believe the package insert for Ativan says it is to be given undiluted in a large muscle mass for IM injection. IV is to be ALWAYS diluted.
  5. Oh heavens yes! Lets not use our ability to assess or trust our instincts about our patients.... just FOLLOW THE DOCTORS ORDERS!! We have an obligation and legal responsibility to question ANY order we have doubts about! Narcotics can cause rebound headaches with migraines.. patients do seek drugs from multiple providers to SELL for profit. I take this behavior seriously and so do most providers that I work with in the ED. Patients can be confronted with known inconsistencies in their stories and should be allowed a chance to explain. Is it not in the patients best interest to point out to them behaviors that are harmful? The same as we do with smoking. exercise, losing weight ect. I do believe pain management is very important but its simply gotten out of control! A sore throat or stubbed toe is not going to kill you!
