  1. Honestly you'll get A LOT more reply's if this was in the Arizona forum... Yes, it's putting all your eggs in one basket, and the MCCCD currently has a 3 semester wait list, so you have that, and probally a longer one because of your one choice. Honestly, if I were you though, I'd put Mesa CC, South Mountain CC & Scottsdale CC as other choices. The reason being is all three CC's are within 5 minutes of Gateway. Phoenix College is a bit further out, but may be a bit too far away (15th ave & Thomas). Any of the other CC's really are not anywher close to Gateway
  2. No, this is a regular 16 week class. The Bio 156 class I'm taking is a 16 week course compressed into 8 weeks. It's been COMPLETELY crazy and I really feel like I'm not learning to see the forest through the trees! As I have said, I'm Taking an accelerated Bio 156, and I also am in MAT 092, both through Rio. I also work full-time. Thankfully, I work security, so depending on how busy things are, I can spend between 3 - 6 hours studying.
  3. Looks like Davi and I are in the same Bio class... I'm just hoping that this class is nowhere NEAR as crazy as the accelerated BIO 156 I'm in now!
  4. It's not health care, but Security is a VERY easy job, and depending on where you get assigned, it can be a GREAT time to study
  5. I have an ex-girlfriend that was an administrative assistant at a nursing home. One of the CNA's at that home was missing her leg from just below the knee! If she can work with 1/2 a leg, you can work with a bum knee that will be fixed by the time you finish school!
  6. I'm only taking Introductory Biology for Allied Health (bio 156) and introductory Algebra (mat092). My bio class is an accelerated class... basically they squeezed a 16 week course into 8 weeks... this class has been a BEAR! I'm spending probably 2-3 hours a DAY studying! It's also on-line, so I'm basically reading the book, reading the on-line lecture & books while taking notes, researching things on the internet, making vocab cards & stressing about the midterm. My math class is also on-line & I spend maybe 2-3 hours a WEEK with that. At the moment I'm pulling a high A in the math class, & a midish-low B in bio, but that's due to a 75% late penalty for a lab I turned in. Otherwise It'd be a High B - low A. However, I still have time recover.
  7. In 10 years I'll be 40 and I'd like to have my BSN and a certified Respiratory Tech.
  8. Hey guys, I made the unfortunate mistake of taking the accelerated Bio 156 class offered through Rio. I have to take the mid term by next Saturday, but really don't feel like I have learned ANYTHING! Anyway, is anyone else taking this class & would be interested in meeting for a study session? Or has anyone taken this class and yhas any input on what to expect on the midterm? Thanks guys
  9. Last year I was in the Respiratory Therapy program at Apollo, and ended up dropping because of how poor the quality of teaching I was getting. I DO know that other programs are much better... Just the RT program had a bunch of new teachers that were basically in over their head. At any rate, good luck. I'm sticking to the MCCD program also. I don't mind the waiting list because I have a decent paying job job, and I can afford get my degree without taking out any loans.
  10. Hey guys, Myself and a friend are enrolled in an accelerated chemistry class that begins next month. The one thing we completely spaced is her being 6 months pregnant at the moment... We've left voice mails for the teacher & department head at the school, but no answer yet... Do any of you know if the chemicals used in the lab are stuff that a pregnant or nursing woman should NOT be exposed to? Thanks
  11. I read the book a few years ago when i was trying to become a respiratory tech (dropped because the teachers SUCKED). Anyway, it helped me here and there, but to be honest a classmate helped me MUCH more. Anything we had to memorize, she set to song & THAT stuck in my head. To this day, I STILL remember the 4 gas properties (she set them to "Oh Christmas Tree"). Unfortunately, I am not creative enough to come up with my own songs, so flashcards and repetition still seem to work best for me.
  12. Maricopa Community College pre-requs: CHM130+lab: Fundamental Chemistry with lab or one year high school chemistry BIO156/181: Introductory or General Biology or one year high school biology BIO201: Human Anatomy and Physiology I PSY101: Introduction to Psychology MAT 120+ Intermediate Algebra or higher There is a 2-3 semester wait lest (depending on what college your trying to get into) The Co-requs are: ENG101 & 102 First Year Composition BIO202: Human Anatomy and Physiology II BIO205 Microbiology Humanities Electives Critical Reading is also co-req, but most are able to test out of it
