  1. What study guide did you use?
  2. What study guides/websites do you recommend? I too am not in a traditional ambulatory care clinic. So I will need to study.
  3. I recently left the ER and will be starting a Public health position soon. I am nervous too! Hoping I made the right choice. I liked the ER but didn't love it. I was good at it too. I am hoping to love PH nursing and am willing to give it a try. If I hate it I can go back to the hospital. Good luck to you!
  4. OP Did you take this job? I am looking at a very similar if not the same position wondering how you like it?
  5. I am thinking about applying for a job as a school nurse but am not sure what exactly school nurses do? Can someone walk me through an average day? I am an ER nurse looking at doing something a little different and with more family friendly hours.
  6. Wow...I so love your quote "I tried to keep them alive, in the home I help them live" I have an interview today with a hospital HHC so we will see. I will keep you posted.
  7. Everyone I talk to in HHC loves it.. I am an ED nurse looking to do something different. So tell me what's so great about home health? Why do so many nurses love it?
  8. Thanks. So it is understood that you can see your patients and complete required documentation in 40hrs/week? Do you find yourself "working" (to include documentation) more than 40/week? What is extended care shift? What is intermittent care?
  9. Is FULL TIME in Home Health really 40 hrs/week? Or is it like the hospital that where a 12 hr shift can easily turn in to 14 hrs?
  10. I have read "give slow" What does that mean? Over 30 secs, 2 minutes?
  11. Aloha, I am a first semester CNS student at the University of Hawaii. I am looking for a CNS contact to interview. I am taking Advanced Nursing and will be needing to ask a CNS questions every few weeks. For instance next week questions are Interview two APRNs. Identify how they secured their employment. Document the process that 2 (or more) APRNs underwent to to be credentialed and to receive re-certification, and prescriptive authority. I know a few NP's but would really like to get info from a CNS. I just moved to Hi last year and am in the process of trying to meet a CNS but am having a hard time. Ultimately would like a CNS mentor on island but until I can find one I was hoping someone on here could help. Thanks.
  12. I had not until I heard about it from you. I live in Hawaii and am looking into UH, or Grand Canyon.
  13. Jess, did you decide to go with JSU? I am looking into programs also.
  14. Ex navy girl, Did you go with GCU for MSN PH? I am looking into it now.
  15. I am starting a CNS program next week. I am wondering what all of you want to do as a CNS when you are done with school? What are your career goals?
  16. SO I got in to a CNS program. CNS was a long term goal but with the GI Bill running out a a few other things going on it seems like a good time to go to school. However I have 2 young kiddos and am enjoying working per diem 1-2 days a week. I am an ER nurse and I like it (dont love it, that's OK I love my other job-mommy) But I see doing this ER Per diem gig for 5-7 more years. Then going back and finding a full time job I love CNS-the traditional role seems to be a good fit. I never wanted to be an NP so I am not interested in that aspect of the role. My question if I get my Master's take the board and pass can I continue working as a staff per diem RN?
  17. Happy for you! Good luck! No OT for 12 hour/day, only for over 40/week.
  18. I am an RN at HPH I do know of new RN's that worked as CNA's (one for 1 year one for 6 months) who did get jobs as new grads. As far as I know that is the only way to get a new grad RN job...(always exceptions I guess)
  19. dreamct replied to ahshoup's topic in General Nursing
Aloha, I will also be starting UHM in the fall the CNS route.

Nursing Education Loan Repayment Program check this out....
  21. I work at HPH and I know a few new grad RN's that have taken tech/CNA jobs to get thier foot in the door. As far as I know they (HPH) only hires new grad RN's who already work there. (I understand there are always exceptions) HPH is an excellent company.
  22. Did you end up going with them? I am in almost the exact same situation you are in. I am about to apply with an agency as well. Would love to hear about your experience with them or another agency.
  23. I feel the same way! Nice to know I am not alone. This was my dream and I just want to do a good job, constantly second guessing myself! I dwell on the few things I did wrong and have a hard time feeling good about the 100 things I did right! I guess we really care and really take this "job" seriously. What is that saying my greatest strength is also my strongest weakness. Good luck, find a mentor you can trust... I found one only to find out she is moving in Jan.
  24. I got mine through nursing central. I also have downloaded the lab diagnostic book and med dictionary.
  25. The best material I would say is to learn the policies and procedures for your hospital. That in the long run is what you can fall back on. I also carry a palm pilot with a drug book..it has been a lifesaver!
