  1. I was terminated a month ago and from inadvertently sending a wrong email. It has been a struggle to be honest to find a better job considering this was my first hospital job after being a nurse of 6 years. I was very fortunate of this job and with a twist in faith and supervisor I made a mistake and ended up unemployed for a month. I have been applying constantly for any jobs out in this small island, but I don't even know what to say on applications where they asked "explain gap in employment. Or reason for leaving." As much as possible I don't even want any new employer to even call this company for reference but I know that'll be a red flag already. Any helpful advise is welcome. Thanks!
  2. Hello, I have been recently been terminated from my 1 yr job with the company, specifically I was terminated yesterday. Though I wanted to move forward and get my life back together it has been hard and I don't even know where to start, so I really needed a good advise I can use. My unit was recently opened and has a lot of flaws going on. I work in a med-surg unit 33 beds and my unit is an offsite from a hospital campus. They consider this unit as a "lodging" until stable for discharge or pending insurance etc.. Anyways, I'm not to sure how much the nurse to patient ratio is per state but in my State it has been a standard of 5:1 for any acute med-surg floor. My unit however differs and gave us 8-9:1 patient that are mixed in acuity. Reason I am telling this was because I have raised this concern to the union and have asked me to help them out so they can make this a better and safer working environment for all staffs. So ever since my manager knew about me working with union and how they have been asking her about her reason for her rules and action she started to hate me a lot. I once went to her office to seek for guidance about a staff behavior, instead of having it solve she went to that staff and told her what I said which created more conflict at work. She has been trying to find ways to get me out from the union either by telling me "This job is not for you. Go to sleep tonight and rethink if this is your calling." to sometime "You should tell your union you want someone else to work with them, not you." She have also asked me a time to write a letter addressing it to the union on how I believe their action or decision is wrong and I'm writing it on behalf of the management and the unit. I refuse to do for her and I told my union about it. Anyways, she hated me even more and have been waiting for me to possibly made an mistake and used it against me. Sadly, I made a human error. I sent a wrong email to myself that contain a person's name on my excel sheet. She used this against me on how I violated company policy and possibly HIPAA violation too. Union reassured me nothing will happen as they have had this similar issue with other staff or themselves too when their boss/ HR sent them HIPAA containing files and no suspension was given to them. I was placed on a 2 week unpaid suspension for "investigation" of intentionally knowing what I was sending. I got my verdict yesterday and I was given an option to resign within 7 days for a good record for referral or take fault and agree for termination. I haven't signed any papers with them at which one I have agreed. Union wants me to wait while they investigate themselves too and see if they can bring it to arbitrary and get my job back. I really don't know what to do. I love this company as I have worked so hard to work for them, I also have a love-hate relationship with my job depending how the day goes by. I am torn into just resign and not wait as to what my union will have to say as to wait for 4 days and see if I can have my job back maybe after a year when brought up to court. They also claim that I have lied to them as I am aware of what I was doing. A secretary testified and showed them my text messages asking for help on how to send file on email and I was aware what it contain. I don't even know what to respond to my coworkers when they have reached out to me asking where I have been and have missed out working my regular shifts with them. I don't even know what to write on my reason for leaving when applying for new jobs online.
  3. Hi Everyone, i really need some advise from anyone right now. I am currently suspended for a week from work for sending a wrong email that contained patient information to my personal email. I never opened the email once i found out it was a mistake and deleted it as advised by the company's IT. However yesterday at work I pulled out from my shift by my manager and was told she wanted to meet with me and my union rep later in the afternoon. I thought i did nothing wrong as no patient was harm with what i did nor anyone saw it. Anyways, i came to found out that i send a document to myself containing 500+ PHI of patient. My manager done nothing to help me with the matter as we both have different opinion and way we see things for the unit ever since I became the unit's union steward. I was given an advised by the HR to resign within 7 days if i wanted too so they can give a neutral recommendation for my future employer, the union rep inwas with agreed and added that this will not reflect on my record too of i resign rather than being terminated. I consulted with another union rep and was advised to wait out the verdict of my suspension and file for grievance as this had happened before and no one got suspended and that an employee downloaded his personal icloud on the company's desktop but was not given any verbal warnings. I feel that if i ever came back to work after filing for grievance, i'll be walking on egg shells with my manager and she will still find ways for me to be terminated. Reason is, my unit is a brand new unit off site of a hospital. They claimed that patient to be transferred here are for disposition concern or for antibiotic completion that's why we are off site and they'll be stable patient. It has been months that none of out patient has been stable, and patient verbally threatning nurses to killing them has raised a safety issue for everyone that my manager denied any of this to her knowledge. We have a ratio of 9:1 with patient having a high acuity, so i went to union for help as i never felt safe and my manager could not care of this safety issue. After this, my manager had have been finding ways for to have an error to point out and use it against me. what should I do?
  4. Thank you @dreamct. Though I'm on training still I'm loving everything about my work. Everyone at work is nice and everyone treat everyone like their family which is really nice.I really love the work atmosphere they have and it reflect how the nurses and cna do their job with care because of this atmosphere they set.
  5. Thanks! Yeah I figured that one out by myself, no over time pay but still regular pay. I did read the handbook they gave me on my orientation and pretty much it explained there when I would get paid for an overtime pay. :loveya:
  6. Thanks for replying. I didn't went with them at the end, I forgot my reason but I believe its because of a bad review I read online. I even cancelled my interview with Altres last month, I guess what they have been doing to new grad RN is try to get them the lowest position possible, same thing happened with a friend of mine. At first they told me I can work as a flu shot nurse and they would try to get me a RN position someday in a hospital. After a day or two would send me an email telling me I'm not qualified for the flu shot but instead should start as a cna.
  7. Many Thanks!
  8. Aloha to all. I'm an RN in Oahu but have been applying to any position there is to be offered, I can't be picky with what job I want since the job market for nurses is terrible. Anyways, I submitted an application to a senior living May of this year but was called-in for an interview last Monday for the CNA position I applied. The interview went smoothly, where they asked me easy questions like "Why did you choose this career?, or Tell me something about yourself and Tell me a conflict you had with a co-worker and how did you solve it?" I got lucky I had these questions asked since I prepared my answers for this kind of questions. The HR was even amused to found out I'm a active RN license holder but applied for a CNA position, she even told me that she might consider me for one of the RN position they would have once I proven myself capable of the role for their facility. I just got the call yesterday that they want me to be on their team and would love if I can start first week of August. The HR talked about the probationary period, salary and orientation/shadowing schedules for next week and my official work would start on August 6 with a 12hour shift. What I forgot to ask the HR on the phone, if my 12hr shift be paid as overtime or will still be a regular hourly rate. My dad said that its a law that once a person worked more than 8hrs he/she will be paid an overtime pay, but I have no idea if this would imply to CNA and Nurses as well. Can anyone help me out? Thank You.
  9. Hi, Has anyone here worked for Kahu Malama? I filled for an online application and contacted after a week to call them if I want to proceed with my application so that they can set me up for an appointment. After searching for review regarding this agency I stumbled upon how unprofessional they are when it comes to their clients, but the review 6years ago and was hoping to hear an updated response from anyone of you. And yeah, has anyone tried Altres as well? I have an scheduled interview this month but was planing to cancel the interview since they won't give me any RN job interview despite my year of experience, but rather give a a CNA work. Not that I'm complaining but when I try to ask them why I'm not qualified for any RN position (which one of the recruiter told me) they won't respond to my question despite they have numerous RN job posting online. Thanks!
  10. I got this offer of a CNA job that pays $10/hr, though I really need money and would sure want to start working $10 is quite low for the stuff you would be doing as a CNA. Not mention the job is a home service type which requires you to either travel by bus or use your car, not sure if the expenses for gas and bus fare can be reimburse. I did not took the offer as I am new to Oahu and going house to house might not be the best idea as I might get lost. Has anyone of you seen any online job posting from Hawaii Pacific Health and Kaiser for entry level RN? Well, I have sent my resume and answered it online but never got a call nor email. I gave up after several attempt to reapply to every job posting they have but never got a response. I wonder if they are really in need of nurses.
  11. It took me a year to have my credentials approved, which I hated for the long gaps I have from my graduation to the date I took my exam. Most of the interview I go to asked me this question of why it took me so long to take the exam and what I did during those times. After the credentials I waited probably another 2 months to have my application approved for the ATT after that the processing time was quick, specially the scheduling of the exam. I got my license after a month, i took the exam Oct 2011 received my confirmation mail after 2 weeks then sent it back with the amount to be paid then received my licence a day before Christmas Eve.
  12. I didn't took my cgfns exam but was able to process my credential evaluation service though with a help of an agency who did most of the work for me, though it cost me more than processing it on my own.
  13. Hi rizzacalinao I was in the Philippines with a 1yr experience of being a Physician Assistant while I was waiting for my credentials to be processed by the CGFNS. I thought that the 1yr experience I have would be enough for me to land a job here, sad to say most of the calls or emails I would get would be telling me that my year of experience in the Philippines would not count as I was not practicing in a US territory country. How frustrating was that? There's not much review centers here compared there where you have review centers to guide you for every board exam there is. But if your planning to take the exam once your here take Kaplan as it is most advertised center I know. or conisder studying for the exam by yourself would be fine as well. Anyways, good luck.
  14. I have been in Oahu for 3mos and still unemployed. I have sent out my resume to almost all of the Hospitals and applied online job posting in the net CNA/ RN/ LPN. So far only 2 called, its either asking me if I have a 1yr current experience for the past 3 yrs or would be asking if I want to relocate. Telling the person on the phone you have 0 experience and doesn't want to relocate would definitely end the conversation for they would tell you "I wish you good luck." and hang up the phone. I'm not sure of the online application does work as I never get any return call nor emails regarding the job I applied which is very frustrating.
