Chances are, usually, the feeling is mutual. I've had it happen twice, and was actually relieved I didn't have to take care of the pt. Also when I have been the pt, there are some people, (very few) I don't want to take care of me.

Sounds like this goes on everywhere. Several times we were told we might have overnight recovery, this after the nurse on call had worked all day. Then we have staff shortages the next day, since staff had worked all night. But we can't cancel or stop surgeries because of staff shortages, unlike the floors, which close beds down because of not enough staff.

I had to yell at another nurse, although this wasn't a drama queen, she thought she was a princess. She thought everyone should do everything for her (while she sat on her butt charting). Of course when the tables were turned she wouldn't get up to help you. Couldn't mess up her hair I guess. I just wondered how long she has been able to keep this up, because everyone got tired of her. She transferred to another area since none of us put up with her. She has been a nurse for probably over 20 years, I just wonder how she has lasted in this profession so long acting like a prima donna.:argue:

We are in a large open room. Most of us do not want visitors, except in extreme situations. We have to hold pts in PACU due to no beds available on the floors. Sometimes we have to provide a meal. But I don't think it is right to have a pt eating, while the pt next to them is just coming out of surgery for colon ca. Also after so many hours we do let family come visit if pt has not been assigned a room (and no hope in sight to get a room soon). Also the visitors and the awake pts might see things that no one should see especially when pts are coming out of OR. We can put curtains around, but there is no escaping the sounds, alarms, moaning, etc. Or the awake pts and visitors who are curious as to what is happening. I don't mind when there is only 1 pt in the pacu especially a child and letting the parents come in (after the child has settled down). In the near future I'm afraid that we will be allowing visitors. So much for privacy and pt confidentiality.
