Any June NCLEX Test Takers Out There?
just wanted to share my experience with everyone. it has been a long journey for me as you can see i have not posted in a long time but i lurk often particularly these last few weeks since before today. i was always a good student in school but always lacked confidence (cried after every test but still graduated sigma theta tau ;o) ) i had great supporters in school, home and work and feel lucky for that because i was freaked out. i did not take kaplan although i did complete the q bank and trainers with friends i was averaging mid 60s overall and did not feel confident. i stressed all weekend long and really thought that i would fail. i slept a total of 3 hours last night despite trying to sleep longer than usual.... i got to the test center early with a ton of nerves and then started the exam right away. i really didnt think it was that bad got 15 select alls, almost all priorities, some meds i never ever heard of and 2 med maths. my computer shut off in 55 minutes at 75 questions and i about died, couldnt even believe it thought no freaking way that was not that bad!! i def failed...... i drove home and couldnt bring myself to do the trick, cried to my friends and finally with a little push from my hubby who had had about enough of me after 3 hours i made myself go through with it and saw this message "our records indicate that you have recently scheduled this exam, please contact your member board for further assistance. another registration cannot be made at this time" the good pop up!!! so while no real rn license as of yet i feel pretty confident because of all the support on this board that i passed

Starting Salaries for New Nurses in Philly
I work for Penn and had no idea that starting RN salaries were so low... I graduate in May and I have to say that although I am happy for the guranteed job security having already been offered a position... that is not much more then what I make now

Cheating in the Classroom
I agree that cheating is pretty rampant in schools... and something should be done to curve it, however..... As far as shutting cell phones off without even the option of placing them on vibrate, as an adult student and mother, I will never, ever render myself completely unavailable to my child in case of emergency and I mean never. if that should land me in the deans office to explain myself well then it must be done but I am an adult and will not be told that I can't ensure my childs safety period

Holy Family University Nursing Program: Fall 2009
Just an FYI, I am a Holy Family nursing student and just switched from part time to full time becasue I am starting clinicals in the fall. They do have a part time evening/weekend program but it takes an extra year to complete and you have to take clinicals straight on through the year (even summers) I just wanted to give you a quick heads up in case that was discouraging you. As far as all the comments about the program itself... I will say that HF is like all other schools, you get out of it what you put in and nursing itself is a very self taught subject, if you don't have the ability to study and understand the material then it doesn't matter how good or bad your teachers are, you will fail out of the program. I will say though that once you figure out how to answer those questions you are golden! When I took 210, I had a 76 on the first test, I cried a bit and then regrouped, got myself an NCLEX book and figured out the trick, I finishes 210 with a B+ and 214 with a high B almost B+ but I missed it by a half a point (no rounding up) I am headed into 300 level clinicals with a 3.7 GPA and Deans list notation, so needless to say I have a lot of wiggle room

Age when you had your first child?
16, I know I was super young and not at all prepared. On the Bright side she is now seven and the best kid ever and last year, I married her dad (my first and only love)
-
Why are you REALLY going into nursing? Honest answers please.
Heck I will admit it... Money, Money, Money!!!! Oh and job security and continuing to work 3 12's (I am a data coordinator in a nursing department, so that is a perk I am already enjoying )

Breastfeed or else
I hate this breastfeeding debate.... Some ppl choose to do it and some don't I have no health conditions, I simply chose not to breastfeed and guess what my kid is normal and healthy. My mom didn't breastfeed me and I am normal and healthy too. So flame away, I guess I am a terrible parent because I gave my child a bottle instead.... sheesh.... This type of discussion could go on forever and ever, It's like the working moms vs the stay at home moms. Many ppl seem to think that working moms are selfish for giving up time with their children to have a career. Then some feel stay at home moms are lazy for not wanting to work. Why can't we all just agree to disagree and realize that everyone is just doing what they think is the right thing for them and their family.... period.
