PICC certification
Hi everyone, I am trying to become PICC certified. I found two places that have the classes: PICC excellence and PICC resources. I would like to get some information from someone that is certified on which one is better, prices, and more importantly; if the investment is worthy. Also where can I work with this certification. In my hospital critical care doctors place the PICC lines. Any information will be appreciated. Thanks

Things to do on night shift
Down Time???? Did not know that existed. I rarely take breaks!! Pts in my floor don't sleep, have to give meds @ 12mid, 2, 4, 6 call lights are on constantly, NAs do not answer the lights, pts are on fall precaution, bed alarms are on and keep beeping non stop because our confused pts keep coming out of bed. Giant problem if pt falls. What down time can I have. I really would like to have some.

Graduating from orientation!
I will be off orientation the first week of November. Our ratio is usually 1:8 in a medical floor. Sometimes is overwhelming even though I am working with my preceptor. I am very nervous because if it gets crazy now that I have her working with me, can you imagine what will happen when I'm on my own. I feel comfortable taking care of the patients but the paper work overwhelms me. Also we are always short of supplies, pharmacy does not send the meds on time, NAs are not available to help you and the day get messed up easily. I made a schedule to follow during the shift but until now I haven't been able to follow it because there is always something going on. I always start gathering my meds way earlier than anybody else because I double check the doses and if I don't know the medication I will look it up before give it to my patients. Usually our patients have tons of meds several times a day, stool and urine tests, finger sticks, I&O, test off the unit, dialysis, etc. I just want to be able to complete my work in a efficient and correct manner while taking very good care of my patients. I think patient care is the main purpose of nursing and I do not want to become a nurse that just give meds. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Promoted from within, CNA to Nurse
I too work as a CNA and just pass my exam. I did my clinical rotations in this hospital and a summer internship last year. I did clinical rotations in two more hospitals but did not like them. I am working in the same floor I did the intership. I already went for interview and I am staying in the same hospital. I know is one of the best hospitals in the state. the benefits are wonderful and they pay 100% tuition if you want to go to school. It is very hard to get a job here. I love the staff and my orientation will be very easy, since I know the system and got a lot of experience because the nurses always treated me as nursing student. They teach me a lot in this one year I have been working here. If you do not love the place you are working now, just move on. I did investigated more options but still my hospital is still the best. It is wonderful when you can find the perfect place to work.

JUST Took NCLEX w\ 75 Question
I took the NCLEX July 31, 2008 and still waiting for the results. I already planning on how I can prepare for the second time because this is the first time in my life I take a test that I have to guess almost all the questions. I really prepared well for this test. I have enough knowledge to be chalenge in any nursing topic. I passed all the diagnostic tests with grade no less than 80. I know all the test taking techniques, I did tones of NCLEX style questions. I just realize that there is not book or review course that can prepare you for the NCLEX. The entire test was about who you assess first and choose all that apply. I was not sure of a great amount of questions. My test stopped @ 75. Failing at 75 is worst than failing at 265 because one should be really stupid or really panicked to not be allowed to go further. I'm very sad......
