  1. Hey! Congratulations and best of luck to you---You will do great!
  2. Awesome! Congratulations. :) Hmmm... Would you happen to be in Colorado? If so... I am too!
  3. Hi, I just had an interview at a psych hospital. I think it varies between each institution, but with my interview, I got asked basic scenario-type questions about boundaries, etc. They wanted to know a little bit about my background and if I've committed any crimes... Nothing different from my med/surg interviews. I hope this kind of helps! Good luck and I hope you OWN it. Best wishes, J.
  4. Yes, I'll be testing at the training academy---very long drive from where I'm at right now! I spoke briefly with a Human Resources personnel and she said that the exam will test us over our knowledge of the Nurse I position. She also said it was "nothing major" because I asked if any preparation (like studying anything) would be necessary. Oh, and she mentioned it would be multiple choice. :) I hope this helps!
  5. Hello schmoltz! I am actually in the same boat as you. I'm scheduled to take the exam in two weeks, too. :) The test is supposed to consist of a "training and experience evaluation." I'll be calling the HR Dept. Monday morning to see if I can get some more details. I'll keep you posted!
  6. congrats, babbu!! Can you keep us updated on how everything goes? GOOD LUCK to you and once again, congratulations!!!
  7. Loma6855, I totally feel you on that one! I had the same dilemma going on inside my head because they really seemed like they did not want to be inundated with phone calls! haha But then there's that urge to follow-up. Oh, the frustration... Babbu, thanks for sharing that information! It's very much appreciated and definitely helps! Once again, best wishes to everyone on this. :)
  8. Ditto! And good luck everybody!!!!:)
  9. Oh boy, people! I've read through all the comments and my hands got really clammy! haha Just out of curiosity, do your statuses in the "Application Status" of your Stanford Hospital Job Application website still say: "Application in Review"? If so, I hope that means we still have a chance of receiving a phone call for an interview! Good luck everyone. And I got the same information when I received the initial telephone interview: over 700 applicants, less than 1% will be selected, don't call us--we'll call you because of all the phone calls we'll be receiving, we'll call back in 2 weeks, etc. Hmmmmm...
  10. Hello, following faith! I was just wondering, do you know any more information concerning the tuition assistance offered by the New York State Department of Employment and Training? I've tried searching for some more info online, but I'm having trouble navigating through the NY Department of Labor's website... Thank you so much for your time!!
  11. Hi! I hope this helps and gives you an idea of the school's nutty time-frame with things: I applied for the May 2009 cohort at UR around January 2008. I wanted to stay on top of all the colleges I had applied to, so I harassed the heck out of the administration/staff! I constantly called UR and they kept telling me the same thing: you'll be contacted in the summer for an interview. Sure enough, they contacted me about 5-6 months later for an interview. After the interview (which was in June), they told me I would not hear back from them until October! And, by God's grace, I got my acceptance packet in October.
  12. Ah! I'm sorry. I'm new to the site, too, and I was not paying attention to the website etiquette. I'm the guilty one!!
  13. Thanks for the input, Longhorngirl!! I REALLY need to do some much needed research for this school. It's no ivy league, but I guess it's supposed to have a great reputation and offer lots of opportunities?? (Then again, a student can make the most of their education at ANY institution... It's all about the drive and the passion!) I think I'll definitely voice my concerns and questions when I speak to someone at the school. (I'll get to see how biased their answers are!! haha) So, if you would like to share... What school were you talking about? The school I am interested in going to/transferring to is the University of Rochester in New York, which is a buttload of moola for an edu-ma-cation!!!! Julie
  14. Hey, there! I just came across this thread. If you don't mind me asking, Selke, what choice did you end up making? I feel like I am experiencing a similar dilemma as yours and I am very curious about your perspective. Thanks and take care, Julie:D
  15. Hello again! Thanks so much for your sincere responses folks! Well, paacollins asked me to post an update concerning my decisions for nursing school and life, so here goes: I'm goin' to school! I got to Maine a couple of weeks ago and was homeless for a couple of days. haha What an adventure! I love not knowing what's going to happen, but at the same time, I hate it. Deep down, I knew that I should attend USM's nursing program because I would be in quite the predicament if I didn't get accepted into either of the nursing programs in Rochester or Colorado. Plus, I hear Maine is a beautiful state! haha I knew my boyfriend would be supportive of my decision. We will both just have to see how things work out. He helped me move to Maine and I helped him move to New York. It was fun driving across the country with him! Before I left, my dad told me not to contact him once I got to Maine. He always manages to make me cry by making me SUPER frustrated or by saying mean things. I just get so mad! haha I'm 23 years old and just graduated from a university in May 2008. I feel like I should be tough when it comes to dealing with my dad, but he can be very hurtful sometimes. Funny thing is: once I hit the road and started my road trip across the country, he called me right away to see how I was doing. haha My dad is a walking enigma. I don't get him at all. BUT, once he saw that I was really leaving, he was very willing to help me pay some of my rent for now. (I'm very grateful for the help.) You can bet your bottom dollar that I will pay him back as soon as I can because I'm awesome!!! Once I get a feel for things in my accelerated program, I'll see if I can handle a job. (I worked two jobs during my 1st Bachelor's degree and that was tough!) Then, maybe I can manage to do this on my own (with the help of my loan, of course!). I wish there was more financial aid available for 2nd Bachelor degree-seeking people!!! Oh well. If there is a will, there is most definitely a way to achieve nurse status!! I start school next week and I'm very excited. Thanks again for all your honest responses. VistaGirl's response made me laugh for awhile. :chuckle A good man IS hard to find! haha Good luck and best wishes to everyone!!!!!
