Hi every1 thanks for the replys sorry it took me too long to respond. I decided for ben taub and im currently working with them, I thought the driving to work would be a problem but it never was. I like the hospital, lots of opportunity for learning in the neuro icu. thank you nurses for your wise opinions.

I would be needing your opinions with regards to choosing which hospital to choose im currently staying in an apartment in sugar land area and have been accepted both with methodist sugar land and ben taub in downtown. I need to make a decision before the weekend on which to choose. I have been accepted to medsurg floor at methodist versus neuro ICU at ben taub. I was leaning towards Ben Taub because its gonna be worth an experience and my background is neuro and surgical floor. The good thing about methodist is its close proximity to the apartment where I live but its the usual medsurg floor where ive been used to most of my nursing life. I am not very well versed on the benefits and bonuses at ben taub but ive seen the hospital and the neuro icu unit already and doing critical care and caring for combative patients in this hospital would be worth the nursing experience. I might not have the opportunity to get accepted to neuro icu again in the future. On the other hand, Im planning to buy a house in sugar land in a few months and the drive would be a litlle bit far to downtown as compared to the stress free commute to methodist in sugar land. I would be needing any of your insights and opinions.. whether it would be positive or negative. thanks a lot!!

i would eliminate caffeine it messes up the sleep cycle i dont know if its the same thing w/ the other night nurses.

hi there! Im an RN and I will be working in sugar land pretty soon and I was thinking of doing agency on the side. Can u recommend me good some nursing agencies in houston, are they comparable to registry in ca? thanks a lot.. also if you could share me how much they would averagely pay for medsurg. thanks a lot

Im an rm working in amarillo but will be soon transferring to sugar land if u have any queries about hospitals here i van give u some sound advice.

I did get the job i counted offer for a few more dollars they jacked me up to level II position now i would be happily working with them.

Guess what? changes changes hehehe st. lukes declined my application, methodist didn't call me back today for their offer and just when I was about to call off my plans for houston, memorial hermann called me for a job offer. im on my way to sugarland by mid feb. offer was perfect with $4 night differential no contracts involved.

thanks im gonna try to negotiate if i can stretch it a little bit. its methodist sugar land and i really like the hospital i just wanted them to increase the offer by a few more so i can pay house mortgages when i eventually buy a house. any other opinions.. houston rns pls..

I need your opinions before I would accept the job offer. I have 6 years medsurg RN experience and ive been offered a base salary of 30.70 at 1 of the sugar land hospitals do you think the pay is reasonable enough? The only drawback i have is my current salary is just a little bit lower from that offer but ive been wanting to move to the sugarland neighborhood. any opinions with regards to the offer would be very much appreciated.

okey heres what i got as well i was in houston jan. 15,16 for interviews with st. lukes medical center, memorial hermann sugar land and methodist sugar land. I have 6 years rn experience abroad and 3 years US, they considered 3 years credit for my overseas experience. Memorial hermann sugar land 32.50, methodist sugar land 30.70, st. lukes TMC 33.53 and this are all medsurg floor application. Methodist hired me right after interview but the offer was too low I asked them to give me more time and they told me i could shop around i have until today, monday to confirm with them. on the other hand, st. lukes told me to wait till today, monday for the confirmation which i would hope everything goes well st lukes also had the better night diff at 4.40. Of all the hospitals i visited i liked the methodist sugar land the most its brand new, very upscale look, nice environment with 1:4 nurse-pt ratio however i was not convinced with the pay but if st. lukes declines my aplication id be joining methodist sugar land.

I wish i could get as many replys as i Can as it would help me decide if I would take the plunge soon or wait for a few more months

Im an RN and I am possibly looking to doing registry or perdiem in the Los Angeles area by feb. of 2009, can anybody tell me the working conditions as of this time considering the economic recession? Do you get cancelled most often the past weeks or months? I originally wanted to apply as full time but most of the hospitals are limiting or freezing their hiring as of this time so Im gonna start off by probably doing per diem or registry. I do have 9 years experience with medsurg and im still thinking if its the right time to move since i still have my current full time job and Im afraid i might not find enough working days doing per diem in that area.

Im an RN with 9 years medsurg experience and I have been applying since last month looking to relocate either LA suburbs or houston texas. I have filled up numerous application on line but for more than 1 month now i still don't have a solid placement. It looks like many hospitals are holding off or limiting their hiring since census have been running low.

hi there! im an RN from amarillo texas and we have similaraties on the type of floor we're working at. I also work on a 32 bed surgical/trauma floor and guess what we get 5-6 patients primary care (without a CNA). I sometimes do relief charging and i still get the same patient load. In most times i feel sorry for my patients and feel bad about the work environment I am with too bad texas doesn't have strict nurse-pt ratios. On the other hand i have probably sharpened my skills in monitoring this patients cos in my case u need to be always on guard for narcotic overdose, signs of PE, bleeding, etc. I have a 3 yr contract with this hospital and im just very glad it will end by next month. imagine 3 years of dangerous nurse working environment.

Hi there! Im an RN in amarillo Texas working for northwest texas healthcare system. I was just wondering what is ur usual nurse-patient ratio in the medsurg area? i would like to address this question to texas RNs. I am currently working in the surgical-trauma floor and we usually get 6 patients a nurse without any techs or any help. Im asking this question because im thinkin this load is not even legal considering the high acuity of patients. I dont think texas has a defined nurse-pt ratio as considered to other states though, im not sure. Most of my patients if not all may have PCAs or epidurals and have q 2 hrs monitoring or q 1 hr if neuro case. I would greatly appreciate inputs as many as i could get. Thanks a lot.. The reason why im here is because im a foreign nurse and they sponsored us here through an agency. We have 3 yrs contract and im just happy that im about to finish few months soon. theres probably about 40 of us RNs here and were all running away as soon as were done.

Ms. Palm Tree Lover is right i was just in LA last week and was checking on houses 1 friend of mine was willing to give up his house for 300,000 in beaumont area where he originally bought for almost 500,000 but the interest rates on the loans are way to high. Im trying to browse more on forums cos im close to deciding (in 6 months time) on transferring to houston or south ca- san bernardino area and it looks like houston is more favorable im gonna try to read more insights from this forum.

thanks for the replys.. houston has a pretty descent pay although im also thinking about south CA. kaisser's overtime pay is X2 and half and house prices have gone down to more than 40% its very inviting as of this time.

Im new to this forum and have found very informative answers to my questions. Im also planning to move to houston sometime end of this year and those starting rates are quite reasonable. Does any1 know the overtime pay in houston medical center? is it same with others like time and half? im an rn working at medsurg.. thanks for any info.. also if any1 knows per diem rates on the area.
