Last fall they did not do the interviews and they did not require the direct patient care - but all the literature said they needed both. So not really sure what they are going to do this year. Sorry could not be more help. Danielle

Speak to the instructors on day one about your driving situation and they may be able to help with placement close to a bus line or suggest a car pool with another classmate. But they cannot promise anything. They did work with me since I live in Frederick - columbia was as close as they could get for me. My best advice is to be flexible - things change all the time in the program - just go with the flow and it will be much easier. Danielle

I am in my last couple of weeks in the online Catonsville Fundamentals class. I have Ms Brennan and Ms. Harrer - they are both great. Here are my suggestions: There is a ton of reading assigned from the books - DO NOT READ the entire chapters! Many people in my class did this for the first test and bombed it. Instead there are Reading Objective questions for each topic - answer those quesitons and use the books as a reference to answer them. From the very begining I put together a study group of 6 people - we divide up the objective quesitons and then one person from the group compiles them and sends them back out to each member. This saves you alot of time! Do not get behind in the modules - try to work ahead if possible. There is a seperate study aid called SI (Supplemental Instruction) this is free and really helpful - the lectures are taught by either 2nd year students or nurses who have been through the program. They are offered several times during the week Clinicals are all over the place - I went to Vantage House in columbia for Long Term Care and Howard Co for Acute Care. But our class was all over Baltimore. Lab is fun with the dummies - just pay attention to the little details. Hope this helps Danielle Hatfield

The best way to find out if a school will take a transfer course is to ask them for a form for pre transfer evaluation. Just fill it out with the class that you want to take and from which school - turn it back in and they will evaluate it and return with an approval or denial. If they approve it save the paper because they cannot deny it once you take the course - they have to accept it. Most schools do this.

Where in Maryland (or Washington DC suburbs) is the largest nursing supply store? I have already ordered my scrubs for school but need shoes - hate to buy online because I am very picky how my shoes fit. Any help would be great! Thanks Danielle

TEAS was 79.9% (93% reading comprehension) and my GPA was 4.0 - you do not need hands on patient care anymore for consideration (eventhough it says it in all the paperwork) also there was not an interview.

I did get accepted to the online Hybrid Rn program for the Fall 2009. All of the material says that it is 12 hours one day a week at the school and everything else online but they did change it this year to 8 hours mondays (clinicals) and 4 hours wednesdays (skills lab and lecture) plus all the online stuff. They said that they tried it for one sememster 12 hours one day and everyone was struggling and not doing well at all so they changed it. The smemsters for the online program are also longer - we start Aug 10th through late December and start again in Jan (no winter break) and go through May. So our time off is alot less than the "on-ground" students. Books and uniforms are expensive!!! One uniform set is about $160 - good thing is online you really only need one since we only have on clinical day a week. Otherwise the course material is exactly the same as the day/evening/weekend students. If you think of any other questions just post them - will be happy to answer them. Danielle

I did not think you could sign up for the summer dosage class until the 29th at the orientation.... they let you sign up? Did you do the online dosage class or on campus? See you on the 29th!!!

congrats to all that got accepted to ccbc fall 2009!! i got accepted to the online hybrid ccbc fall 2009 - so i will have lab and clinicals on mondays at the school - maybe we will run into each other. can you believe all the stuff we have to do before 7/31!!! with all the dr appts, seminars, orientations, dossage calc, background checks, learning harbor, etc... my calendar looks like someone threw up on it. plus i am taking en102 online this summer as my final class. do you all have orientation on 5/29? or do they do a different day for the day program? danielle

The book was very helpful - very similar questions on the test. The sections I studied the most I did the best on. I also purchased the online practice test - it was helpful but you only get to do it twice and it is the exact same test - same questions. It did help show me my strong areas and weak areas so I could study. I can sell you my book if you want it.... and you can purchase just the test online. Hope this helps. Danielle

Well I took the TEAS and passed - 79% overall and 93% reading comprehension. It was a long test - did best in reading and math - the science was all over the place - so do get the study guide and work on the science and english portions. Did the worst on spelling. CCBC Selective Admissions is meeting this week to review canidates and then will call for interviews. So I am keeping my fingers crossed - got a card in the mail that final decision letters will be first part of May. Currently taking Microbiology at FCC and EN102 in the first part of summer to be finished by clinicals - board said that was ok.

I applied for the fall 09 Hybrid online RN program - still have to take the TEAS on 3/11 - really nervous. I went to CCBC over 20 years ago for sign language interpreting. I just sent off the final packet of requirements to the Selective Admissions Board - next step is the interview! Wish everyone luck! Danielle

Yes I did post before. I originally posted to a specific "specialty- OB/Gyn Nursing" and I thought I might get more responses if I posted to a more general area. Guess I should have posted here first, but I am very new to the boards and did not know exactly where to post. I noticed you did not post on the old thread... did you have any ideas to the answer? Thanks for your help.

i am currently taking my a&pii classes for my nursing pre-reqs. we have weekly discussion questions and this one has me completely stumped. i have researched and also asked my own gyn - he did not know either. please help!!! an obese woman reports to the er with complaints of gas pains. after carefully examination, the er physician calls for a pregnancy test which came back negative. the woman insisted it was a waste of time as she performed the same test earlier that same morning. further observation caused the physician to check for dilation of the cervix which measured 8 cm. briefly describe a physiological explanation for this occurance. now i am assuming that the pregnancy test at the hospital would have been a blood test. can the blood test be false? is she really pregnant and ready to deliver the baby and not know she was pregnant or is there another medical reason the cervix could dilate without pregnancy? any help would be appreciated. frantic nursing student danielle

Taking API & II (4 credits each) at Barton community college in Kansas - Bartonline.org. I checked with the school - they do not put on the transcripts that they are online courses. Also checked with my local school that they were accredited and would accept classes from them. Now I told my local school that I was spending a semester at my grandparents and was taking classes while I was out there (little white lie). So I am taking all courses this sememster on line through them. They also charge $125 per credit no matter where you live. You can do the 8 week condensed course - spending 3-4 hours a week (lab, homework, discussion and test prep) If you do the 15 week I am sure it would be less time. Hope this helps

How did you do with Dr. Simmons AP class? I am taking it now and doing well but his tests all seem to be all true/ false and they are tripping me up. did you have that problem as well. Thanks Danielle

Well I am four weeks into the condensed A&P I course (8weeks). Going very well. Each week we have the following work to complete: Read one or two chapters in text Answer review multiple choice questions for each chapter Fill in one section of lab book w/ ADAM anatomy program Answer one discussion question and respond to two others in class Take weekly exam (only on text not lab) 10 questions So far it has been much nicer than going to class. You can work ahead if you want. Little time consuming having to type out homework and lab to submit to teacher. I have an "A" so far. I am taking A&PII in Oct - Dec. Nice thing is that you use the same text book and lab book - so no extra cost there and you can go work ahead on the lab for the second class. If you do not have any background in A&P then I would do the 15 week class or if you don't have at least three - four hours a week to put completely to the class. Also all the tests are online - no proctored tests Hope this helps. Danielle

CutiePie 612 - you took the classes at edukan? Were the final exams for A&P online or proctored? I have Dr Simmons starting next week for A&PI and I thought all of the tests were online?
