  1. LOVE the advice! Wheaties, you have my deepest respect for staying with it and taking all the advice to heart! Sometimes the best way to get it through to someone is straight forward without all the mushy stuff in between! I am starting nursing this fall after graduating from college over 10 years ago. Am a mom of two and work at a local hospital in the ED (wanted to get some knowledge of what is was like in the real world before I decided to go to school). I am excited, nervous, you name it but absolutely looking forward to jumping in headfirst and seeing my dream become a reality. Great advice you have all given Wheaties (and those of us starting school). Please keep up the advice, I am sure I will be needing it!
  2. Hey Wendy, Thanks for the website for dosage help! It does really help to be a little prepared! Just a few more weeks!
  3. Hey Chechy, Can't reply back to your private message (guess I'm not on here enough) but yes, I did get into the program though CHW. Where do you work? I am at Chandler in the Er. I was going to take BIO 205 as well but decided to wait until next summer. I have a 2 year old and a 4 year old so looks like there will be lots of moms in our class! Looking forward to meeting you!
  4. I actually was given one by my sister who had two (she just graduated nursing last Dec). Otherwise, I would just wait until they tell you what is needed. Have you purchases your scrubs yet?
  5. I am also going to wait before getting the text book. I ordered most of my books through Amazon and got about 1/2 off the price! You can get some almost new used books for much less than buying them from the bookstore. Can't wait to meet everybody from the forum attending CGCC in the fall!!
  6. Thanks Chechy! Glad to hear you have heard some good things! Looking forward to starting in the fall and we may even meet! Good luck and hopefully I will see you in class!
  7. I will be attending CGCC in the fall and their schedule is fairly decent. Class is from 8am to noon or 12:30 no class on Friday until mid-Oct then clinicals all day. In Oct class also goes until 3:30. I have to say, though, that I have not heard many good things about the school as far as their nursing program. Apparently, being so new to the Maricopa County nursing program, they have a pretty high fail rate and I have heard many students try to transfer to schools like MCC. I have a friend who I work with at the hospital who is in their accelarated program and he did say the rumors are pretty true. The teachers seem to give our info that is of no help on exams and when the exams come the info in them is very foreign. Hopefully, by fall, this will have changed somewhat. I am really looking forward to going back to school after being out of school for 15+ years but really hoping that I don't encounter the struggles I have heard many CGCC students have faced! Good Luck!!
  8. Hi All! I will be attending Chandler-Gilbert CC nursing program this fall with several other co-workers (currently working in the ER at Chandler Regional Medical Center). I have not heard too many good things about their program mainly due to the fact that it is so new and it appears that the teachers are somewhat confused. I am hoping that things will be at least slightly different come Aug but I have heard that you just pretty much need to know everything, regardless of what they tell you. I am excited but somewhat nervous with all the negative things I have heard so far. Anyone have any input on this subject?? Thanks!
  9. So nice to hear all my "old" or should be say "new lifers" are joining me in a career as a nurse! I am 36 and am just finishing up my two pre-req's before applying to the nursing program here in AZ (Maricopa county). My sister is 24 and will be done in Dec! Luckily, I started out as a biology major 18 years ago so some of my classes actually rolled but I did just finish BIO 156, loved it, and will be starting BIO 201 in Aug. I think being older has many advantages since the whole party mentaltity has left me for a larger desire to get good grades and get out there in the work force faster! Funny, since I am a mom of two young boys, so I have even less time to study, but it seems to be going much better than in my younger years! Good luck to everyone, we are going to have some AWESOME folks in the medical profession!!
