this is a probably an old thread - but for Vitas in San Diego - starting is 38/hr plus milege etc. At another hospice it is $34/hr - Season's Hospice

Be glad you weren't in Hawaii - I had moved out to Hawaii back in January and had 4 years experience as an RN and its dead end over there with 2 major hospital closing and with more than 2,000 or more nurses without jobs. Even the local new grads had a hard time finding a job unless you worked with the hospital as an CNA before. I was even lucky enough to land a job with at an acute rehab hospital as a nursing supervisor for $43/hr but it was only oncall - but I was able to get in a few days - if I was lucky - I could get 10 days in a month. I finally decided to move back to California - specifically San Diego and accepted a position with a plasma center which opened up by biotech company. They pay $32/hr + annual increases in salary + weekends off (especially sundays since the owner is christian).

That's crazy! I just accepted a position too for a biotech company that opened up a plasma center. I've worked in an acute care hospital (telemetry), SNF (sub acute), and was a supervisor for a rehab hospital. I have 4 years experience as a nurse. I recently moved back to San Diego and accepted a job for a plasma center. The place I work is very family oriented and has long term people working there. Its monday through friday with weekends off - especially sundays, paid holidays. The pay is decent as well and there are always yearly reviews to increase salary. Pretty much I screen patients, assess them especially for tattoos. I have yet to start a 5 week training with the company. I'll let you know how it goes.

Hello everyone, I just arrived in Oahu this month and have been looking for a job. From what I know, Tripler is pretty strict, they want at least 1 year to 2 years experience in acute care (most current work experience), sadly, my last acute care experience was in 2009 and my last 2 years were with a medical / rehab facility. I found this site on the internet and contacted this facility and they supply the major hospitals as well as smaller care homes. I'm excited to be working for the major hospitals such as Castle, Kaiser, Queens. But I was just wondering if anyone has actually been with this staffing agency and what was it like? I know staffing agencies are quite different than working in a regular hospital because you can pretty much go anywhere / wherever they need you but you can pick your own schedule and work as much as you want. I'm just looking forward to the experience - mainly acute care experience. From what I asked, a med surge nurse makes $40 an hour with this company. Any info is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone. I'm an RN from San Diego with a BSN. I have 3 years of experience as an RN. 1 year in acute care and 2 in skilled nursing. I was just acquiring on the job outlook in Hawaii for RN-BSN. My husband is in the military and will be stationed in Hawaii. I would really like to work there so that I don't lose my skills as a nurse. I'm still currently working until we move there. What are my chances on getting a job in the hospital. Any luck for me in the military hospitals over there?

Just to clarify the 3000 questions....i ONLY studied KAPLAN....i did all the q-banks, question trainers, sample N-clex tests, i went over all the questions that were practiced in class.........so roughly it came out to 3000 questions....plus kaplan has practice priority questions/delegation and select all the apply.......i took the kaplan class for 3 weeks......then i had 3 weeks to study on my own........while taking the kaplan class i read their book and then listened to all the CONTENT video to basically cover what i had read........then i would practice a q-bank.........i don't know which you should do first.....but i heard that you should do question trainers first then the q-bank.......however i did the opposite by doing q-bank and then the question trainer........just because the q-bank was broken down into sections.....while the question trainer was basically everything.....just to let you know...i didn't really do so well on the q-banks.....my scores were in the low 50's-60's.....and occasionally there were some 70's and 80's.....for the question trainers.....i did horribly on 1 to 4....but on 5, 6, and 7 i was scoring 65, 65 and 63........KAPLAN had said that if i did all the Q-bank and reviewed all the answers....then there was good chance of passing........... seriously.........all the questions i did on q-bank and question trainer weren't really on the test........there were some that were familiar.......i think the point of kaplan is just to practice answering questions and to practice thinking critically.........i really thought Kaplan's questions were way harder than the actual NCLEX test.....which is good.... hope this helps........because obviously kaplan helped me to PASS THE NCLEX!!!!:nuke:

I took mine last Friday July 11th......i had 3 math questions which were really easy, about 3 or 4 SATA, a few infection, PEDS, medications that i didn't know, priority, and NO OB. i seriously thought i failed since the questions seemed not that hard....i mean....i thought KAPLAN's questions were way harder.....but i passed! you just got to remember that each NCLEX is different....what may be easy to you may be really hard.....i think i was just prepared after taking over 3000 practice questions that were harder than the real thing.

OMG!!! i've been waiting for almost 4 days here in California! i've been such a miserable wreck for the last couple of days moping around and crying.......i've tried to keep my mind off the test by just watching episodes of LOST! =) but i can honestly say that i passed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :nuke::D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D i'm sooooo happy! i've been praying to god every day for to give me strength and support to get me through these days!!! I did take KAPLAN! i took the whole deal...........i went to classes every other day for 3 weeks......i wouldn't be able to get the information they were telling me in just a couple of days so i took the 3 week deal..........my diagnostic test score was 56%......that was before i studied anything.......then after taking kaplan and little studying.....i got 66%.........i was doing horrible on the q banks with scores in the 50's and 60's.....occasionally i would get some 70's and 80's............but overall in the 50's and 60's.............. for the question trainers....i did horribly on the first 4.....but on question trainer 5, 6, and 7 i got about 65%, 65%, and 63% ...........i really thought i failed this test since i felt the questions i was getting were way too easy....they seemed like basic content i should know.....but wasn't even too sure about during the test..........i seriously thought that kaplan's q bank and question trainers were way harder!!!!!!!! ............ i just want to leave a message: DO NOT GIVE UP HOPE.......KEEP PRAYING, STAY POSITIVE, AND DEFINITELY HAVE FAITH IN YOUR ABILITIES! its ironic.......but i felt that i had none for the last few days..........but i kept telling myself...........stay positive.......believe in yourself.................you can do this!!!!!!!!!!!! thank you everyone for your support and encouragement! but i can finally say that i'm a REGISTERED NURSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
