Nurses, physicians weigh in on new doctoral nurse degree
new med students may or may not have taken stats and ethics in undergrad but those courses aren't required for most medical schools. therefore it cannot be taken for granted that those subject matters have been adequately covered prior to entering medical school. i'm sure the faculty of said medical schools would realize that and, since you say these subjects are covered on your licensing exams, would afford med students the opportunity to learn, in seminar or a formal classroom, these subjects. secondly, i think we can all agree that undergrad courses are different than graduate school courses even when they are the same subject. they differ, usually, in the pace at which the material is covered, the depth in which it is covered, and by requiring the student to think more (rather than regurgitate). so even if a course in the dnp program resembles an undergrad course you've taken, i'm sure they're doing more with said subject. dude, nursing is the wave of the future. we won't be stoped (like p. diddy). mds need a hug, a "wooo-saaa" and to just accept it and move on.:chuckle cheers

Nurses, physicians weigh in on new doctoral nurse degree
biostats and epidemiology are not requirements for most if any medical schools and they are not addressed in the MCAT. They may be in your licensing exam and you may be expected to learn it on your own time, but to claim knowledge of these subjects is taken for granted because of your undergrad degree is just misleading.

Nurses, physicians weigh in on new doctoral nurse degree
lpn, adn, bsn, np and dnp were all born out of necessity. nursing as a whole came to be because doctors were too filthy to adequately care for wounded soldiers and they (the soldiers) kept dying. so doctors only have themselves to blame for the fact that nurses are gaining more autonomy. first, by neglecting to actually care for the patient and not just the injury, an entire branch of medicine was left unattended and nurses came to the rescue. second, by making medical school so hard to get into in efforts to maintain "exclusivity" and "prestige", they haven't managed to produce enough doctors to keep up with demand. once again, leaving themselves sitting ducks for ambitious and hardworking nurses to pick off. if you ask me there should be np to md accelerated programs. that way nurses can continue to earn their autonomy and drs can protect their, what must be a copyrighted, name.

Nurses, physicians weigh in on new doctoral nurse degree
Most of the DNP programs require the nurse to have a master’s degree. So, in my case, I would have a BS (Biology 4 years), ADN (2years), BSN (1year), MSN (2years), and a DNP (2years) plus over 5 years of clinical experience and the thousands of clinical hours each respective program requires. For those counting that is more than 11 years of learning. So it's irritating to hear people say nurses haven't earned a title. Oh and whereas I've taken and passed with high marks courses like biochemistry, organic chemistry, eukaryotic gene expression, molecular and cell biology, genetics etc... Few if any doctors have ever taken a nursing course. A nurses' course of study teaches one how to treat the whole person, not just a symptom. We use biology, chemistry, psychology and a health dose of ingenuity to treat our patients every day. Our interaction with and healing of patients is on an entirely different level than that of the physician. If you ask me, Drs shouldn't knock nursing curriculum until they've experienced it. In fact I wish they would take some of our courses ... it would make them better Drs.

GPC Fall 08?
I can't log in at all. This is my first semester at GPC (I did my prereqs in maryland). Is this your first semester? I don't think continuing students are having log in issues. Was there anything special you had to do to get you log in ID and password. I tried the link on the internet but when I use what is listed it says It's incorrect. Also, a general question, how is everyone preparing for the first day of school?

GPC Fall 08?
Hello everyone! I'm new to the fourm but I will be attending GPC this fall (clarkston). You guys are really making me nervous about this program. However, it sounds like the program is extremely hard, which is different than being extremely bad. Hard I can deal with, but bad makes me think I won't be getting trained properly. Can someone, preferably a current student, please clarify?
