UCLA New Grad Program 2010
I don't know of anyone else in PICU, but the NM said she was planning on hiring about 8 people, right? I am doing my new hire next Tuesday, and moving this weekend.

UCLA New Grad Program 2010
Hi Peachsnapple and G3rly, I also have not gotten an official "offer letter" but I am guessing we will get this at our new hire orientation? U need to call nursing resources to schedule your new hire paperwork day (done on tues or thurs) and go in for a uniform fitting (do this before your new hire session). I got this info from someone who called me on behalf of the manager that hired me (I think it was a unit secretary or something). When you call nursing resources they will get your address to mail you a packet with all the other necessary paperwork to fill out before your new hire orientation. PM me if you need any other specific info. As far as housing, I found my place on craigslist, but definitely saw a lot of sketchy places before I found the right one. There aren't any other vacancies in my building...I am paying 1450, which is a little but more than what I am used to but I think it is worth it to be in such a nice, safe, fun neighborhood and within 3 miles of UCLA; (Westwood/Brentwood and Santa Monica seem to be more expensive than Weho). My suggestion is that if you are relocating maybe find a room/hotel to rent for a couple of days during your first week so you can check out the apartment before you commit. LA definitely has very nice and very NOT SO NICE areas. Can't wait to meet you PICU girls! :redbeathe Ange

Oh one question I do have; does anyone know what the cost is for our uniforms? And can we deduct it from our 1st paycheck? Thanks :)

Hi, Congrats again to everyone that is going to be starting @ UCLA! Where did everyone find housing? I just found a place yesterday in West Hollywood, but I am a little nervous about the price bc it is way more than I have ever spent on an apt before. But, I love the neighborhood and its less than 3 miles to RR. Good luck to everyone as you tie up loose ends and get settled!

Signed Contract as a new nurse
I would guess that the original fee would be prorated based on how much of the time you completed. In other words, if you did 1/2 of the time, you would only have to pay off 1/2 of what you owe. If you have another job lined up, don't be afraid to go talk to HR. And don't feel guilty, you are just finding out where you best fit in and you have to do something you love!

What color scrubs do you wear?
I agree that hospitals that have nurses wear the same color look more professional. I personally do not think that printed scrubs are appropriate, but I know a lot of nurses wear them. I am starting at UCLA next month and the RNs wear navy scrubs, and all the different disciplinaries wear different shades of blue so patients and employees can identify their role easily.

Va0707, I decided its probably OK to post the information here. My instructions were to call 310-825-6771 to schedule an Immunization review and Physical. After that, they will let you know the next step in the process for filling out your new hire paperwork.

TintinRN, I don't think I will be hearing from the peds acute manager now that I have accepted in PICU, but she did say she had a lot more interviews to complete before she made a decision. She said I if I didn't hear back by the end of July to give her a call. Sorta last minute for those who have to put notice in on apts and relocate, so hopefully it will be sooner! Best of luck, have you interviewed yet?

Happy to say that I was offered the job a couple hours after my interview. I will be working in the PICU @ RR. My start date is August 23rd, so there is definitely still time for those of you who are still waiting on interviews. Good luck to everyone interviewing. It's worth the wait for this fabulous opportunity!
