  1. I got lucky and emailed my resume to the dept director directly who told me to fill an app, interviewed and was hired right there. They were desperate and had no one for the night shift, so I got it. Helped that I told her I was almost done with my pre reqs, applying to RN school next fall and that I had YEARS of law office management etc. Just be persistent, especially with hospitals email follow up regularly.
  2. I just finished my first week..you do everything and if you plan on going on to nursing school, I can't think of a better place to start. You will learn soooo much! My head is still spinning from all I learned (no prior medical background, i have been a paralegal for 18 years), however I cant wait to go back to work Monday, go for it!
  3. I am taking BIO and my advisor recommended it, I think it'll be helpful to either go into A&P or Micro. I was hating it the first couple weeks, but now I love it and am glad I did it. My teacher relates as to how Bio goes into the nursing field, microbio and A&P so its easier to understand it. JMO
  4. I am starting a job closer to home...45 miles each way, was 75...even now I am wondering if I made the right choice. My truck gets 18 - 20 mpg, ...gas is not going down, however....If I had the choice of the local hospital or a good teaching hospital, even I would bite the bullet, work OT and take it, but that is me, I am just a NS, what do I know :)
  5. Thank you all for your insight!! It will be a wonderful new challenge for me and I am confident I will be good at everything you guys mentioned. It opened my eyes for sure as to what to expect on my first days and feel more prepared for sure! keep the advice coming!
  6. Thanks for that insight!
  7. I am changing careers after 18 years of being a paralegal. I am almost finished with my pre-reqs and will be applying for the ADN program next fall. I got my first hospital job and start next week. I am very excited! My question for the seasoned here is what are your expectations of your unit clerks? I will be working 7p - 7a in ICU. I would LOVE advice on how to be helpful and what to expect. I plan on moving up eventually to a PCT/PCA then of course, RN and have my entire career in ICU. I would love any advice anyone could give. I am excited and nervous all in one. Going from being a paralegal and know the job like the back of my hand to being a unit secretary :) Thanks in advance! :bowingpur
  8. You sound like me, I a 35 and starting Bio I & Lab Monday after 15 years away from school to raise my daughter. Now she just graduated and is starting all her prereqs for RN Tuesday :) I have an 18 credit jump on her....I'm so nervous that I'll be the only old foggie in this class AND its being held at my daughters former HS :) I pray for good grades and get the prereqs over with so I can apply and finish what I started so long ago!
