HELP! I CAN'T FIND A JOB as a NEW GRAD RN
I was offered nights at first when I interviewed with the nurse manager, and I said that I REALLY had to think about it cause I hated nights. I called two weeks later to accept the night position, the position was still open and they hired me on days! Ask for what YOU want, it goes both ways... You need I job, but they need nurses! :) Good Luck!

First job interview in NYC as a New Graduate Nurse?
Update! I went to an interview, they offered me a night position in mother/baby. I dont fit well with nights, so' I said: I had to think about it :S! After two weeks I realized it was really worth it, because it meant experience in the area that i love. (It took me TWO wks!? :S) I called back to accept the night position, thank God they said yes, went with all my paperwork and there they said they were going to put me on days! I'm almost done with the hiring process and very excited to start! To get the interview, be persistent, call directly, and if possible go to career fairs! When you go get offered a position: Be flexible, and balance it out. If its an area you love, take it. Dont take the chance to lose a position like I did :S! On the other hand, always ask for what you want and don't settle for less. You need a job, but the hospital also needs you! It goes both ways. Thank you for all the advices and Good Luck to everyone!

Hi Everyone! Thank you all for your replies. A little update: I accepted a days position in Mother-Baby (which is my passion) at Lincoln Medical Center. I'm still in the process, but was already medically cleared and waiting to be called back by Human Resources. :) I had other interviews (even at NYU) but where nights Med Surg, a 8-5pm position OR training, but for me Lincoln was the perfect fit. :) ***Just a note: A great hospital for me is not a hospital thats in Manhattan and serves the upper class. NYP, NYU, and Mount Sinai are great hospitals cause they're advance in technology, medicine, and research (and nursing salary). They are top hospitals in the U.S. News and World Report rankings and/or ANA Magnet Hospitals. Truth be said. I also preferred one of these hospitals because I live in the city and would love to be close to my job, as everyone else. Also one of the things I LOVE about Lincoln is that it serves the Hispanic community ("under-served"). I'm a Hispanic, so' it feels good to help my people and give back to my community. :) For all you 'new graduates' the positions are out there, you just have to have faith, go to career fairs, prove they need a great nurse like you, and harass nursing recruiters directly by phone! Don't settle for less. In Lincoln Medical Center, after my second interview, they offered me a night position, and I said NO, thank you. I talked to the nurse recruiter and she told me to think about it and call her again. I called her one week later and she told me they were going to put me on days :). I'm learning to crawl before I walk! :) Thanks again !!!

Why would you want to work in a "not so great hospital"? I always strive for the best! And I know great hospitals hire new graduates! Let see what happens... Wish me luck! Maybe I will need to do that in the future...

HELP! I CAN'T FIND A JOB as a NEW GRAD RN
There's no such thing as a "nursing shortage"! Ive been applying almost everywhere in the city for two weeks now. I called Mount Sinai and they told me to wait for a call... (great!) I received an email from NYP, saying all their new graduate positions were full, that they would contact me in the future. I'm a registered nurse in NY, have an internship and a externship experience, a BSN with high honors, and a speak, write, and read perfect Spanish! Im preparing myself to go personally to every hospital during this week to hand out all my documents and request an interview !!! I don't know what else to do ! Good luck to everyone! Has anyone heard about a career/job fair in NY?
