I am enrolled in Troy's Family NP program. I am finishing my second semester. I would like to transfer to UAB...has anyone ever completed this process? Or know someone who has. If so, how does transfer of courses work? I was reading on UAB's website that only 12 credit hours could be transferred and applied to a graduate nursing program. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Did someone calculate your last 60 hours? My overall is a 2.93. Not really sure how to calculate my last 60 as my bsn program was 67 hours total. I was hesitant in applying to UAB but one of the advisors urged me to. I've done well on my mat and was told to have excellent references and a great essay because they count a lot. Were you all and to bsn RN?

How does everyone's gpa stand? Did anyone have to take the mat or GRE?

I have asked this question before and I would like to get some other opinions on this highly ambitious goal, if you will. I am wanting to pursue a dual career as a nurse practitioner and nurse anesthetist. Now, my sole purpose for putting myself through this ardurous task, I feel it will better my chances of being accepted into SRNA school. I don't have the best gpa (2.9) and I've read (on the school's (UAB) website that I want to attend) to better a person's chances of being accepted into SRNA school is to take some graduate level courses in order to boost the gpa. Well, why not earn a degree to boost my chances? I thought that by getting my graduate degree first as an Adult Acute NP, it would possibly look good to an admission committee. Or vice versa..... Currently, I'm working at UAB and can attend school for 18 hours, a year, for free. I am wanting to take advantage of this. While costing me little, it will add to my foundation, I'm thinking. Also, I will be transfering to CICU as a staff nurse which I've heard is a terrific learning environment for an individual wanting to become a CRNA. Let me know what you all think.

I'm sure that it is a huge help. I would love the dual role. When I read this as being a possible opportunity I immediately started thinking it was something I could do. Were you a NP or CRNA first?

Does anyone on this board know if it's possible to hold these two licenses concurrently in the state of Alabama? If so, this is a route I am highly interested in because I have the desire to become a NP and CRNA. Doing it this way would allow me to boost my gpa for the NA program at the college I'm interested in here in Alabama and meet their requirements all while earning a useful degree. If someone knows if this is legit please reply. I've been doing a lot of reading and I don't know if the rules are different (I'm they are) from state to state but I really want to get a clear understanding.

Hey all. I'm interested in applying to CRNA school at UAB. I have a 2.9 gpa and that is my biggest concern if I could get in the program or not with that low of a gpa. I'm now wishing that I would have taken college more seriously after graduating high school but there's nothing I can do about that now. However, I've spoken with the lady at the School of HRP and she informed me that there is still a chance but it wouldn't be easy by any means. She said there are two grad level courses that I can take, as well as, some undergrad courses to bring up my overall and last 60 hours gpa to improve my candidacy for admission. My plan now is to continue working in ICU and take 5 semesters of full load (12 hours) classes to make me a competitive candidate. Also, my science gpa is a 4.0, as I took all of those courses after I got serious. So, has anyone had a plan similar to mine and it worked? Is this a good plan? Thanks in advance for your help!

I am currently employed at UAB in a critical care unit and would like to find out some information from the members of this board. My gpa suffered from a lot of wrong decisions that occurred early in my college days as an undergraduate student. From what I gather from UAB's website, they calculate an overall gpa and a gpa from an individual's last 60 hours. Does anyone know if they use the highest one for admission purposes? IF that is the case, would it not be possible to take additional undergraduate coursework to boost my gpa to a competitive one? One last question, how tough is it overall to be accepted into their nurse practitioner programs?

Hello nurses and student nurses.. I need some help figuring out the answer to a heparin problem. I'm coming up with an answer but I'm not quite sure if I have it correct. Please guide me... 4. ORDER: Give a heparin drip of 25, 000 units in 500 cc D5W at 9 cc/hr Heparin: Prevents recurrence of thrombosis; use with tPa. Adjust dose to keep APTT at 1.5-2.0 times control. ASA often given with heparin. Protamine reverses heparin. Watch for bleeding. Available is 10,000 units/1 cc QUESTION: How many cc of heparin would be added to the IV? Would this formula work? Desired amount = cc Conc in sum QUESTION: What is the concentration of heparin per cc in the IV bag after it's mixed? QUESTION: How many units of heparin per hour is the patient receiving? QUESTION: If the MD ordered the drip increased by 200 units/hr, what would the IV rate be (cc/hr)?

It's always good to have a back-up plan with nursing. I applied to UAB with a 3.4 and over 1500 hours of healthcare experience and wasn't accepted. I applied for the fall semester and some say the spring is easier. I'm definitely not saying you won't get in because there is a great possibility you will but I do think it's good to have another plan.

Gadsden usually gets their letters out pretty quickly...I got mine in like two weeks after the app deadline.

yeah i've heard that it's a lot easier for the spring semester. i was however accepted to gadsden state's program too, so if by the start of school I haven't heard from jsu, i'm going to go ahead and take that seat. but because i have all my prereqs i thought it would be in my best interest to complete my bachelor's. also, mr. hofland said more than likely a gpa between 3.3 and 3.0 usually gets you a seat. he said he's had one semester where that wasn't enough. by the way, it feels good to talk to someone about this because i'm about to lose my mind. i've kind of prepared myself for not getting an acceptance letter when they first mail out but i'm praying that I can get someone else's seat who decides they don't want it.

What was your gpa when you were accepted jsu2601m, if you don't mind me asking? Also, do you remember what your friend's gpa was during the time of application? I have a gpa of 3.29 and Mr. Hofland says I have a pretty good chance but he doesn't know definitely, you know? How long did it take the school of nursing to notify your friend of acceptance?

Any other people out there who have attended JSU or plan to attend? That could possibly offer me some advice.
