I greatly appreciate everybody's replies. Please keep them coming. I know that I want to be a nurse but I can't explain the draw to it beyond the great experiences that I have had with nurses as opposed to doctors and the want to help people. I have always worked in a high paced environment and love the draw of it. I am going to be putting in my officer package and don't want to just say that I want to be a nurse to help people, but what it comes down to is that is the truth behind it. I was curious why others had come to the same decision. Thanks everyone

I'm looking to see what made people's decision to become a nurse. I am looking at a career in nursing in the Navy. I haven't always been hardcore wanting to do nursing but as of recently have been really excited about applying for a program. The thing that has helped to make up my mind is that I have never had good experiences with doctors because a lot of them don't seem to be down to earth. I recently dealt with several nurses who are all very personable and have been great at explaining things to me that previously weren't explained. I like helping people (have always wanted to be a psychologist) and would like to help make people's experience better like several of the nurses I have had to work with have done for me.

The Navy, from what I do remember, does their physical prior to signing the contract. You can go in and dign all of the contracts that you want. The thing that you have to be worried about is taking the final oath. You don't take the final oath until you are getting ready to ship off to bootcamp. The other thing is that you need to make sure that you're talking with an officer recruiter and not an enlisted recruiter. The recruiter should tell you what options are open to you. How close are you to finishing your degree? If you are close to finishing it, there are several other routes open to you. Without your degree finished, you are going to be offered enlisted routes. Going enlisted is not so bad. I have done it for 10 years now and am currently working on puting in my package to become a Naval Nurse. You have that option also. Bananers, I too am going to try to apply for this year. I have been working on my package for the last few weeks and an hoping to have it completed in the next few months. I have already gotten my acceptance letters for 2 colleges and am looking to get one from a 3rd (and probably the one that I will attend). After that I will be working with the college to get my degree completion plan done. I have been in the Navy for 10 years (12 years military) and been an AT for the whole time. I am ready for a change and ready to move into the medical field. My biggest worries right now is loosing weight and getting all of the interviews that I need.
