  1. 1. depends on where you work? In San Francisco, I know a female nurse with 5 years of experience making 140K a year. Any where around the bay area pay very well here. 2. Lawyer, depends on what kind of jobs you got. I know people graduated from UC Berkeley who is making around 100K a year and have a very angry life. He couldn't get into business law firm so he spent 1.5 year to look for a good job but he couldn't. He finally end up being a criminal lawyer and very stressful becoz all he deals with are high crimes. 3. Lawyer can make a better $$$ when they usually get older. (that also depends on what your work experience is) You want the $$$ when you are young right? 4. I also think that law firms may not be as stable as hospitals. 5. I'm not sure how much can you make in an insurance company with nurse and law degree. I would like to get some info from you guys? 6. Is there any other options if you stay in the medical field. Anesthesia could be one but what other degrees is worthy to get in terms of getting better compensations? Thank you!
  2. I will see you there then. I'm in CA and I will leave right after X-mas. Do you have a roommate by the way. I'm looking for a roommate to share the apartment in Arbor Gates. Are you interested? I'm a male thou. I will be in Fairhope by Jan. 2nd. I just talked to the staff yesterday and they told me that this one year BSN program has no break. The "break" is like a few days between modules. We still need to do the graduate coursework during those "Break" even if we are not planning to do the whole master. I don't think I can fly back to CA anytime during next year.
  3. Are you serious.............!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????????? Only 11 out of 44 made it on time..........OH My GOD I got in for the Spring semester 2009. I'm now worried too.
  4. I think you kno I would be wrong. Obama did speak up for nurses, firefighters and police offers a few times. He said, he will guarantee the benefits of those. He wants to make this country a little bit like socialism country. After the great depression, we created so called, middle class. However, from 1979 to 2005, we don't have a middle class and there were no union movement. I'm hoping that after this financial crisis, we lay low again and have middle class and the re-appearance of union movement. Back then, auto workers had great benefits. I hope nurses will be the next to get great benefits during the lay low times. This is just my analysis after seeing Paul Krugman's discussion.
  5. what a turtle. If I can date a rich girl, I certainly will. However, I haven't found a rich and pretty one yet. I'm sticking with my pretty one.
  6. Just has an phone interview with the accelerated program committee and it went through well I guess. Acceptance letter will be sent out next week. Program will start 1-5-09 and it will last for a year. I'm already anxious cuz there is much time for me to move and money is a BIG BIG problem now. Although I'm minority male nursing student and I'm supposed to get free nursing education. (or should I?). I really don't know how am I going to come up with all the money. Since this is my 2nd undergrad, there is no more financial aid except student loan. The loan is limited to 12,500 per year but the program will probably cost 35K total including tuitions, meals and room. What do you guys suggest?
  7. Hi everyone Has any of you guys applied for U of South Alabama for the Spring 09? I did but I haven't heard anything yet. However, today I received a housing contract form from USA for the Spring 09. There is a card that asking for payment information as well. Do you think this imply something? The decision letter is going to be mail within 2 weeks.
  8. I'm sure I'm one of those idiots.
  9. Hi everyone Is there any distant learning CRNA program anywhere on earth? I'm about to start my accelerated BSN and I'm already planning for CRNA. I do know that there is Nurse Practitioner program that you only need to go to classroom a few times a month. You can do your clinical locally like hospitals near your living area. UC Davis has this Nurse Practitioner program which it takes a little longer like 3 total years. But you don't need to quit!!! Therefore, I'm hoping that there maybe a CRNA program just like that. I don't mind taking it longer like 4 years but I can't quit once I start working. I will probably buy a house after my BSN. Is there any CRNA program on earth anywhere that would allow to taking online classes and practice in the hospitals near where you live. How is the salary for Nurse Practitioner compare to CRNA thou? If it doesn't fit my schedule, I might just do the Nurse Practitioner then.
  10. Yeah......thats what I said. (disregard of what I said wrong) Ask him to get a high paying job or do 2 shifts so that you can the princess at home and get your nails done! Oh well....maybe she loves him too much! I want my wife to be dedicated to me too!
  11. Thats good! That will prevent more and more male nurses from coming into this field. As long as I get good pay, I'm just gonna tell all the girls I'm a medical doctor. I'm going to live in a cheap area so that I got lots of money left for me to travel around the world. Its better than working as a engineer in a tense competition company in a expensive place and still just getting 94K a year. I'd rather only get 80K as a nurse in a suburban area in California and live in a big house with a swimming pool so I can invite girls to come party with me every night.
  12. We can thank the media image of "naughty nurses" for a big part of this problem. I don't know how the media is going to project an image of a male nurse??
  13. then, ask him to get a very high paying job or work 2 shifts so he can pay for all expenses. And call you princess bebe! I will definitively treat my wife like that. But of cuz she has to be very pretty.
  14. sounds nice! I wasn't born here thou! I came here when I was like 14. I'm Chinese. Anyhow, where to go for meeting girls and where is the parties? The financial situation is a big part of why I want to become a nurse. There are jobs almost everywhere. For example, if you live in San Francisco bay area and a nice house would cost you 1 million. The Capital of California is only 2 hours away from San Francisco and a nice house is only 1/4 of the cost of San Francisco. The problem is that San Francisco bay area has a wide variety of higher paying jobs but Capital of California, Sacramento may only have a few high paying jobs available. (nursing or government jobs). I still like California cuz the sunshine is very nice. I used to be an engineer graduated from college 2 years ago but got laid off in March this year. I was very ****** off because the pay wasn't not even high and you are bounded to stay in the San Francisco bay area cuz there are no jobs for my type of work in the suburban area like Sacramento, Stockton, Santa Rosa and Tracy. Those are where all the pretty looking girls live. You won't find that much pretty looking girls in the busy city like San Francisco. When girls don't need to work that hard, they become prettier. I don't like to work too hard either cuz its just not worthy. I like to work regular hours and do nothing but chilling after work.
  15. I got the same answer from then about the cut off GPA being 3.39 for the traditional program. I have sent in my application along a lot more than they asked for. I'm volunteering at 2 hospitals working closely with patients. Each of them wrote me a recommendation letter. I even wrote a personal statement. However, my GPA isn't good cuz I got a bio-chemical engineering degree from UC Davis. It's around 3.11. I got laid off and don't see the future of being an engineer nomore so I want to switch fast. I hope I can get into the 1 year program.
  16. would u mind sharing your info?
  17. let's do some math! I don't know how colleges are offering nursing program but I do know how many of them are offering the 2nd bachelor of nursing dgree. There are 205 of them. So lets say each those college produce 35 BSN graduate every semester and 70 per year. Thats is total of 14,350 new BSN per year. I would also estimate about 50,000 or more graduated from either a 4 year BSN program or ADN from 2 year colleges. So there are about 64,350 new BSN and ADN every year. It gets better cuz I haven't counted the MSN and DSN yet. We don't have any shortage please.
  18. I'm getting into BSN!
  19. Thats exactly what I'm trying to say. I graduated with a bio-chemical engineering degree, one of the hardest undergrad major. I was in a few different kinds of research positions. However, I quickly realized that this career is going nowhere. Community colleges started to offer a so called bio-tech research tech 2-year program and they may even know more specific lab techniques than I do and only getting half of my pay check. You figure what's next??? Now they say the nurses are in shortage, pretty soon it will be overflowed because the everyone going into this field. Just the dot com era, they said the programmers were in shortage but look what happened now. One of the posts says that UC Davis received 100 million dollars funding to open master and doctor program starting in Fall 09. They will take almost 500 students as their first class. Isn't that crazy? The CEOs and MBAs will try everything to produce more and more nurses so that they can lower the your pay checks pretty soon. They would rather give huge funding to schools to get more and more students to saturate the market than paying you and me. Isn't that WONDERFUL?????????????????????????????? :banghead: :banghead:
  20. "Stockton Ca also has the highest foreclosure rate in the country." That's exactly what I want. The real estates are going down is good for me to buy a house. It's not near the bottom yet. High hoursing price were created by the inersia of dot com and the stupid mortage loan companies. The price has to fall and I loving it.
  21. What part? In San Francisco, CNA can make between $22 to $27 per hour. Sac and stockton is only 2 hours away from the SF bay area. The pay for RNs is not much differ from the bay area. (maybe $3 differ) As I said earlier, its not worthy to stay in the bay area where all the high tech firms are. Why all the high tech firms are in the bay area? Because the boss of the firms and the GOV want it that way. "When employees compete, the employers and GOV win". The media also keep on projecting a good image on high techs, lawyers and MBAs to inspire more and more young people to get into those areas of studies. Therefore, as you can see today we got too many engineers, lawyers and MBAs. Most of them come to the bay area and compete. I love to see more and more people going into those fields and I'll watch them compete from the outside and laugh about it. Tell all your friends DO NOT come into nursing please. Competion is good for the country but not good for the individuals. This competion will drive the business around the area and drive the high tech industry and pay less to the employees. I DO NOT WANT TO SEE THAT HAPPEN IN NURSING FIELD.
  22. What part? In San Francisco, CNA can make between $22 to $27 per hour.
  23. I agree on the pay-well factor as a motivation going into nurse. You can go into a suburban areas such as Sac, CA and stockton, CA and still get a fat pay check. The houses are huge there for like 250K. Consider you are a programmer in the San Francisco bay area getting nearly 100K pay a year but the houses are like 1 million in Silicon Valley. (of cuz there are cheaper ones in San Jose but I'm comparing the same size and same built year) There are basically no tech jobs in the suburban areas. So, its very wise to get into nursing in the suburban and escape from the rat race in the SF bay area.
  24. I might like it too. I think the things I heard are all just rumors from back in the days. I think I will have a good time there. Thank you!
  25. I don't think we need a increase of nursing school enrollments. We are fine with however many nurses we have now. One of the posts already says the old nurses eat the young nurses or eat each other. (https://allnurses.com/forums/f8/do-nurses-eat-their-young-302909.html) If all the nursing school suddenly open the door and let more people in, there will be a overflowed. Think about all those software programmers back in the days, lawyers, MBAs. We used to think lawyers and MBAs can make a pretty good living but now there are too many out on the streets. I'm sure you guys don't want to see the same thing happen in nursing, don't you? DO NOT increase enrollments of nursing schools please. Otherwise, we will all suffer. Graduate 10,000 new nurses each year across the nation would be enough. If you are in nursing education, tell the dean DO NOT increase the enrollments therwise, we will all be screwed.
