Thank you Mongoose for enlightening us on the positive side of the KSA, most of the comments i have read on this forum are very negative, but i would like to say I am due to go out to Saudi in december (if visa arrives in time) and I am going out there with an open mind. We live in a multi-cultural world and we should respect all religions and laws of whichever country we are in. I am glad to say I am not easily put off by words so I am looking forward to going out there and seeing for myself what this wonderful country has to offer. Life is what you make it and I live by the motto that you only live once so go out there and see what life has to offer, grasp every opportunity with both hands and go through life with both eyes open. On that note all I have to say is I am excited about the adventure I am going to embark on and at the moment I am emailing girls who have just left the UK and have been there a few weeks and all their comments are positive they are loving it, from the country the culture to the hospital and the people. :wink2:

Hi Suzanne, Just need a couple of things cleared up. First of all I am not looking for work in the USA but it would be nice to know exactly what all these tests are e.g: H1B, C etc and the N-CLEX. Does every nurse have to sit this test or does it relate to where they were trained??? Its all confusing and I enjoy reading the posts it might help me understand them a bit more. It all seems so easy here in the UK we train for three years, register with the NMC then as long as we meet the hours required in life long learning we just renew our registration yearly. I have colleagues that i work with and they were trained in the phillipines and it just seems they go through a never ending process to get anywhere. Is it the same for british trained nurses? I apologise in advance for my ignorance. Many thanks

Hi, you will love Edinburgh is a beautiful city, if you get a chance get out and about around the west coast of scotland ie: loch lomond, stirling, etc. The pay is less but so is the cost of living in Scotland. Enjoy your time there and try and see some of the country, although I must warn you it does get a bit cold and you might be lucky to get a white christmas. Good luck.

I am coming from the UK Saifudin and yes it is the specialist and research hospital. My family live in Scotland so I know all about the cold winters, I cannot imagine Riyadh being as bad as Scotland though. I embrace any culture and religion I respect other people's beliefs so I will not have any problems in that area. Where are you from originally and are you working in Dammam? I will need to learn a little about Saudi geography Anyway thank you for the info is nice to get an insight before I actually embark on this great adventure. I do enjoy working here in London and i am going to miss my colleagues terribly but the time has come when I need to see beyond the UK. Marisabel

Hi Ayla and congratulations. Just keep checking the NMC online to see your name on the register, sometimes it is on there before you oficially receive through the post. Thats what happened to our class and we printed it off and handed it to our ward manager, then you are on your way. Good luck and enjoy the experience x

Hi Joe, Have you tried Profco? or Professional Connections as it is known. I have just signed a 2yr contract for The King Faisal in Riyadh and I am really excited. The person that interviewed me was a Nurse who actually lives in Ireland. She was lovely and made me feel at ease, also answered any questions I had. So give them a try if you are still interested. I would just like to say that everyone is an individual and we all have different expectations. Personally I am in the process of applying to work in Saudi Arabia and although the money is doubled what I get in the UK I am going for the experience of working in a multicultural country and the travelling. I read about patients in Saudi being problematic with regards to their treatment and times but it is the same wherever you go. In the UK the patient has the right to refuse, the right to go private, there are so many rights for patients that I cant see the difference between the UK USA Phillipines or Saudi Arabia. Yes they have rules what country doesnt? At the end of the day is what you make it if you go to another country with your eyes wide open, try not to judge, adhere to their culture and beliefs you can get on with anyone anywhere. Our hospital is full of nurses from all over the world, their cultures and beliefs are respected and we only expect the same from them. Life is what you make it, I trained to make a difference to my patients but I also respect their wishes.
