Failed? This is how you Pass
I notice a lot of people always wondering, how do I pass? What should I study? Is this okay? Is that okay? I figured I would write something out for those who need help passing or wish to pass. 1. You need 8-12 Weeks to study, 3-6hours a day. A Week before NCLEX you need to be studying 8-12hrs a day, everyday. 2. You need 1-2 sources and STICK to them. 3. You NEED ATI Green Light Program and Kaplan Q-Bank (save this for last) 4. You need to read EACH section before you begin doing questions on them. Ex. ATI you start with Fundamentals and tests. So first read the fundamental section in your ATI book or Kaplan book. THEN, do the reviews on ATI. Next ATI has a wonderful program called RN Review Tutor where you basically feel like you are in a class while a lady reviews (audio) all the important aspects of that section. Might sound boring, BUT VERY HELPFUL. Finally once you are done with that, take you ATI Funds test. Anything about >60% is good, 70% is great, and 80% is GODLY. If you get in the 50s dont stress, review what you missed in the ATI E-Book. I suggest you open a word program and type it out that way you can refer back to it later. 5. After you do this and submit you score to your teacher you basically wait for them to respond and send you feedback on what you need to study. They will also probably give you additional tests to take. Also, make sure you click each tab to read the rational for the answer you got correct and even the ones that are wrong. Put all that info into your head, it will be there even if you think you forgot or have a bad memory. 6. So at this point you are basically waiting around for the teacher to send you feedback and you feel like you should be studying, this is what you do. Take the additional practice tests at the ati website. They have plenty of older focused review tests to take. Take them. 7. So it's been about 6 weeks and you have finished Funds, Med Surg, Pharm, and OB in ATI, you have Peds and Leadership/Management left to go. Now its time to start doing Q-Bank questions from Kaplan. Yes, they are hard, Yes they make you think, Yes they help. Getting scores in 50s seems to be OKAY, you WANT 60's. 70's (Godly). I suggest taking these test with only 30-50 questions, between ATI and Kaplan you dont want to burn yourself out. AND YES, IT WILL HAPPEN. 8. Continue doing 4-7 until you finish the ATI program. You probably wont be done with Kaplan at this point so that is okay. If you are, you are an ANIMAL and you are probably doing 300+ questions a day. But, remember, JUST BECAUSE YOU DO XXX AMOUNT OF QUESTIONS EVERYDAY, DOES NOT MEAN YOU UNDERSTAND OR EVEN KNOW THE CONTENT. READING the same book over and over is the real key, along with doing questions. 9. Google. You dont understand a word, google it. You cant find the enough info on a subject, google it. Getting lazy and dont feel like looking in the book for it, Google it! Also, make sure to visit the CDC website for the most up to day precautions list, immunizations, and reportable diseases. 10. So after you finish ATI and get the GreenLight what do I do now? Finish Kaplan Q-Bank, read and go through your disorganized stacks of notes and papers and take the test ASAP. Some people say be calm day/night before and not to study. I say, study till the very end. But before you go take your test, eat a good breakfast, a little coffee so you dont give yourself more anxiety than you already have, and go into the bathroom and shake out those nerves, breath, and give yourself a slap in the face. Sit down in that room and pretend its just like every other test you have taken before, read the question, read the answer, and read the question again. Take your time, stay focused, and FIGHT for EVERY Question, dont just say, "i dunno, guess this one". After all that. You'll pass. Go home, take a shot, and throw all your crap into the fire.

Co-Worker Pointing Fingers....
I work 2 jobs, full time ED department, part time psych rehab. I work the best of my abilities 100% of the time and love what i do, I recently run into a problem that I need some advice. To keep this short and simple, during my part time job I work with a co-worker who likes to pretend (he/she) is all that, basically thinks (he/she) does everything right when (he/she) doesnt. Yes I sometimes dont give a certain thing, not because im lazy but because we dont have it or because the DON doesnt like problems and rather keep things smooth. I know the game, and I play it like most of us, might not be right or ethical, but its what it is as most of u know. Anyways, recently had a long time nurse who use to play the same game and actually DOES WORSE things (yes i know, doesnt make it right), but as a co-worker I kept to myself and kept my mouth shut. But recently a new position has opened and now all a sudden this person is spilling the beans on everyone except (he/she) self. A lot of nurses are getting in trouble for this, my gut is telling me to keep my mouth shut and go with it, but my personality is saying spill the beans on this person. Problem is, DON is buddy buddy with (he/she) nurse, (he/she) is a real kiss ass.... Im not as much trouble as fellow nurses, but I want to take the side of my fellow nurses and stand up for them, I feel that Im the only who will do this because I have a full time job unlike my fellow co-workers who this is their full time job. What should i do?????? Should I confront this nurse about it? Should I tell the DON and risk my reputation? Should i write an anonymous letter???

LVN to RN Bridge California - Schools
I am an LVN who pretty much has all their Pre-Reqs done. Just need to do Sociology, Nutrition & maybe Pysh class. But I am trying to put together a list of schools that offer the 30unit option or just LVN to bridge. I am looking at all schools, Community, Private, UC, Cals ect. ect. If anyone can help with this list and then maybe we can make it a Sticky for all Cali people. Also another concern I have is my GPA, my younger days I killed myself so I have like a 2.3gpa but in all my Sciences, O-Chem, Chem, Anat, Physio, Physics ect. I have a 3.0. Do they take that into consideration you think???????????

advice for selecting a nursing field to enter
Let me tell you, WRONG CAREER BUDDY. You will never get rid of it, you might be able to choose a path where you wont see it often, but you will. Most of it comes from MedSurg, SubAcute, Pulmonary, DOU, ER ect. ect. Dont be that guy that goes "EEeeeeeewwwwww", man up and do what you gotta do. Workin as a RN you gotta be able to turn that switch off and on from work to home or your not gonna make it. The second I get out of my car, i turn myself off and become a working machine that can handle anything.

West Coast Univ- Anaheim
RUN!!! Run away from West Coast University!!!! That place is soooooooooooo bad its not even funny. They tell you one thing then do another. The students who complain the most get whatever they want. They will happily fail you for ANYTHING they can, because that means MORE MONEY FOR THEM!!! Its a Business, not a school. They treat you as if you are a child, i see 30+ adults getting yelled at like they are in elementary, i've seen girls cry like CCCCCRRRRRAAAAZZZZYYYY. So its basically like this, you start with like 60students, your pals, your family, the ones you think that will ride it out with you to the end..... Well turns out you gonnna lose about 75% of them due to hours, grades, skills, clinicals, financial reasons, and of course, the best reason of all, they dont think you are fit to move on and need to repeat!!!!!!!!!!! and basically each term youll add more people that join as they were dropped from previous mod ect. ect. ect. The entire time everyone is complaining about how bad the school is, the teachers, the test, the info, and our books. They say study this, then test you on that..... Basically they are gonna break you down and if you are not strong enough your gonna crack and not make it. Plus its Cha-CHING! Your gonna graduate and be paying $1,000.00 a month for the next 15 years.......... your gonna look back and say it wasnt worth it. I rather spend an extra 2 years of my life and go thru less stress and a hell of a lot less debt. The debt and stress of West Coast ages you 10+ years anyways..... So is it worth it?? I'll let you decide. But you know what, if someone told me this at the very beggining I would be like yea right dude, your crazy, they are so nice and the school is sweet, they wouldnt do that stuff, its just you probably........

4 Months before starting nursing school, what would you have done?
Oooo. Learn from me, stay away from all the drama of the women. It is amazing how bad my class was, worse than jr high and high school combined. I was 1 of only 5 guys in the class, and man was I passed around..... lol. I wont lie, I put in my fare share of drama by being a little toooooo friendly with some of the girls in class, but its hard to avoid when you see them day in and day out....you kinda lose your friends, and nursing school class becomes your friends and family, you will rely on them for everything, and oddly enough you will meet some people that seem to do more and care more for you than even your best friend of xx years. Its hard, and its like a rollercoaster, some days you wanna just quit, then you feel like you have a handle on it, and boom, something else throws you off into a dark tunnle of despare. Bite down, stay under the radar, be friendly, and prepare for 2 years that will feel like 5. In the end, you will miss every person in your class, even if you didnt really like or talk to them. and again, dont be a whore, just leads to headaches.

New Guy - LVN & RN advice
Hey guys, I use to be a pre-med student here in california and pretty much finished all my pre-med classes; (all O-Chems, Bios, Mircos, Physics ect.) and could not get into any school here in Cali because my lack of a 3.5gpa. Soooo I am trying to get into RN school and cannot do that either because such a LONG waiting list and lack of a few classes (stats & Phyc). So I am looking into doing the LVN - BSN route. Is this the best and fastest way for me??? Eventually I plan to get my MSN so I can become a CRNA. Also, what is the % of males in these programs and does it benefit being a male at all????? Oh ya, and does this mean I can bypass a percentage of LVN school because of all the med classes I have already taken??? Thanks
