Newly Registered Nurse in the Boston area
I just to Oregon from Boston. It took me 4 months before I landed a job at Spaulding Rehab hospital in Boston. Great place for new grad to start. Check out there website for new postings. In the mean time, look up agencies that are hiring flu shot nurses for the flu season. It's temporary and great pay. I found the agencies on craigslist. STAY POSITIVE and you'll find something. Just be flexible and be open to working all shifts. GOOD LUCK :)

Nursing in Oregon
Hi there, Thanks alot for the information. I'm going to start my search very soon. I'm open to LTC and hospitals. Being a new grad, I'll take all the experience I can get. Can't be too choosy when you lack the experience. I just can't wait till I get out west. I'm tired of the east coast.

Nursing in Oregon
I'm a newly graduate RN, currently working in an acute rehab. hospital in Boston, MA. Moving to Oregon this summer What is the scoop on Salem, OR? Is that a decent part of OR to live? Anyone have other recommendations of towns/cities I should consider. How are the prospects of nursing jobs out there? Any recommendations of hospitals in OR? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Do you work in MA? Some questions from a soon to be new grad.
If you're planning to permanently relocate to MA, you should take your NCLEX for the state of MA. Not to say that you can transfer your license but it may be easier in terms of job hunting. And no you can't practice nursing as a graduate RN, you must be license. I'm a new grad myself, I was licensed about a month ago. I'm having alot of difficulty getting a job. Right now, acute care hospitals all over MA are not hiring new grads. But you should definitely spend a good deal of time now looking up areas that you may want to work in MA, get info. about MA hospitals and check their career websites for postings for new grads. Contact the nursing recruiters by email or phone and send them your resume so they can get aquainted with you and your qualifications. HAPPY JOB HUNTING. Best of luck!!

RN needs a job
Thanks for all the advice. I've meet with nursing recruiters at alot of MA hospitals but they just aren't hiring new grads right now. I didn't graduate from the traditional 4 year BS program and from what I was told, most hospital had already hired new grads over this summer. I'm just a little late I guest. I've started applying to nursing homes, rehab but even they want 1 year acute care experience. HUH??? Keep Hunting I guess...

UMASS Amherst RN to BSN online ANYONE out there???
Hi, Can you tell me about the UMASS boston online RN-BS program. How long is it going to take to get the BS degree. How do you like the overall program. I graduated from an accelerated nursing program that does not grant BS degree so I'm looking for other options.

RN needs a job
Hello, I'm a new grad RN and haven't had any luck getting hired. I'm from MA and currently no hospitals are hiring new grads. I desperately need a job because bills are just piling up. I was considering applying for a nursing assistant position for now until I get hired as an RN. I'm willing to take the pay cut at this point. Are there issues around that? Can an RN work as a nursing assistant? :uhoh21:

New Grad Job Hunting Blues
I'm from MA and I've been to job fairs and sent out a million resumes to hospitals and nursing homes. No call backs. I know it's only been 2 months since I became an RN but the waiting game really sucks so I totally hear you. Hospitals and nursing homes are only hiring experienced nurses but how will I ever get experience if no one will hire new grads? I don't know what else we can do as new grads to market ourselves. The only thing I'm doing right now is keeping close contact with nursing recruiters. Even if there are no positions right there might be anytime in the future. Send emails and let them know that you continue to show interest in a position with their company. Be flexible in terms of shifts that you work. They like to hear "FLEXIBILITY", it means that you're willing to accomodate their needs. GOOD LUCK!

UMASS Amherst RN to BSN online ANYONE out there???
I just came out of a program that does not grant a actual BSN degree, only that I've taken enough nursing classes to be "equivalent" to a BSN degree. I already have a bachelor's in another field. I'm interested in the UMASS Boston online program. Did you say that it was only a year. Can you explain to me how the program will work? Thanks!

Tips for nurses in their first year of nursing
I'm a new grad RN. I thought graduating from an accelerated RN program was hard enough:banghead:. Now, my anxiety lies in getting a job as a new RN and practice "nursing" for the first time:eek:. But thanks for all the wonderful tips, experienced nurses continue to SHARE YOUR WISDOM!!

NVCC Nur Program-Withdraw, No Way!!
Do not withdraw on any terms. I just graduated from a 15 mos. accelerated program and boy it was accelerated!!! The worst part was that the director was a lunatic. She threatened to kick me out of the program if I didn't improve on my test scores. She would constantly target the weaker students (me being one of them) and make us all feel like failures. I wasn't going to let her tell me that I can't be a nurse. 15 mos. later, I passed the NCLEX and received my RN license # last week. Be your own motivator and don't let anyone tell you that you can't do it. The truth is that we all can succeed in anything we want to, it just takes determination and hardwork!! Best of Luck!!! - Hiker1208
