  1. Hello all - I did end up finding a job 40mins north of Boston in Reading. It's a long term care facility and was a pretty rough experience. BUT! It got my foot inthe door. I have since moved back to central new york to take a position on my dream unit and I'm blissfully happy. It is really brutal in Boston right now and I understand how frustrating it can be. Just apply everywhere, follow up phone calls and take any job they throw at you. Sorry it's so awful right now but it will look up! KK
  2. Hi there , I worked at Wingate in Reading. There are a ton of Wingate facilities surrounding boston. Good luck!
  3. Well, I just got to the end of my first year as a nurse. It took me 4 months to find a job in Boston and I had to settle for a long term care facility. It was an absolutely brutal experience but I also did get a lot of lessons and experience out of it. I happened to notice an opening in NY (where i went to school) on its CCU applied, and got the job and will be moving back to Syracuse, NY this week. You all just need to keep your heads up, keep applying, make connections and try not to get too discouraged. Take any job you can find and appreciate the experience that comes with it! I'll be sending good thoughts to all of you. Good luck!
  4. Oh no, I did graduate this past May...May of 09 :)
  5. Yah, I've thought about getting my BSN. However, I JUST came out of 7 years of college and the thought of that is kind of torture right now. I am looking into doing an ACLS course though.
  6. Thank YOu! It's nice to hear some encouraging words! It's pretty hard to find them right now so it's very appreciated.
  7. Hello, I graduated from nursing school in May and didn't find a job as an RN in Boston until 9/09. I've been working in a skilled nursing facility on a rehab floor since that time. While I feel blessed that I found a job it is most definitely not what I want to be doing. I'm scared that I'm loosing skills and feeling pretty bummed out about the whole thing. I really want to get into hospital nursing in the Boston area but am feeling pretty hopeless. I have my BA in Psych and my AD in nursing. Any ideas, opinions, thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Thank You Kate
  8. Also, feel free to pass along interview suggestions!
  9. Thanks!! She basically told me on the phone that I wouldn't get a job because I'm a new grad. However, I'll go into the interview with all the reasons she SHOULD hire me. Keep your fingers crossed! Thanks again!
  10. Good suggestion. I now have an interview somewhere north of Boston. The DON picked up the phone and basically said that there is no way I'll hire you if you're a new grad..but do you have any experience? I said that I had two years experience as a CNA and did a bit of home health. She sighed and told me to come in Tuesday. Hahaha...
  11. Thanks for the advice. I did a week long home care thing for an agency working as a health aide. It was one of the worst experiences....ever. I'm nervous to work as an RN doing home health just because it would just be me out there with no one around to ask questions. I'm planning on going to some nursing homes tomorrow. Any suggestions? Thanks again. Kate:up:
  12. Add another new grad to that!! Where are you???
  13. Hello all, I've been an RN in Boston since 7/09 and (clearly) haven't had much luck with finding a job. I've applied to over 70 jobs. I went to school in NY and realize that this makes it even more hard to find a job because I don't have any connections. But,!!! I refuse to loose hope. I'm looking at nursing homes, medical centers, hospitals, will hopefully doing part time stuff as a flu shot nurse, etc. I'm just wondering if anyone has any advice as to what other employment options I may have in the interim before I find an RN job. I know that I could easily find a job as a waitress but would really love to do something in the medical field. Please help!! Thank You! Kate
  14. Okay, so...I get it. It's really hard to find a job as a new RN, especially in the Boston area. I'm looking for some positive words of encouragement, advice, etc. I passed my boards on 7/7/09 and have applied to 25+ jobs. I know it's not time to loose hope, get down in the dumps, etc but would like some advice. What should new RN's do for money in the interim prior to finding a job? Just feeling a little hopeless and could use some insight. Thank You
  15. You can do it! Stay positive and take a nice deep breath between each question. This piece of advice may sound really stupid but when sitting down to take the test pretend that you're having fun!! I did this along with breathing and passed with 75! You can do it!
