  1. Love the Job, Hate the Environment

I'm 2 years into my first nursing job. I work on an acute psych unit. I love working with the patients and the doctors. Working with the other nurses is another story. Most are bitter, passive aggressive and the unhappiest bunch of people I have ever...
  2. Psychiatric Emergency! Fumbling Syringes?

It is definitely performance anxiety for me more then the out of controlness of the situation. My fear is to mess up in front of a crowd of people. I also have a fear of hitting the person's sciatic nerve. I sometimes have a problem spotting the land...
  3. Decompressing - HELP - 23 yo RN in distress! LOL

Interestingly, it wasn't the patients, doctors or general staff that made my first year as a nurse (in psych) complete hell, it was some of the other nurses! Here are some suggestions (other than all the good stuff already recommended above): - See i...

  7. Kingsborough NLN score 2009

Are you absolutely sure the percentiles aren't listed? My composite was 147 and my percentiles were: verbal - 99; Math - 87; Science 97. My GPA was about a 3.3 (I have a BA). According the the NLN, most composite scores are between 50 - 150, so you ...
  8. i'm in the middle of my first semester of nursing school. i don't know how to tell you how grateful i am for what you've done for me. your patience, kindness, sharing your expertise, not showing that i've probably thrown off your day, seeing the conn...
  9. Kingsborough NLN score 2009

Sannart, Loba is probably correct. I would hope they look at the entire picture. A 4.00 certainly says a lot more about your abilities and dedication then one test. If you don't get in, which I doubt, make a fuss.
  10. Kingsborough NLN score 2009

    I got 147 composite
  11. Kingsborough NLN score 2009

  12. Kingsborough CC Pre-Clinical

Sci 25 isn't bad at all, especially after A&P I & II. The professor is fantastic...one of the best I've ever had (I have a BA already, so I've seen my share of the good and bad.) With your engineering background, it should be a breeze for you...
  13. Kingsborough CC Pre-Clinical

Hi I'm in the same program. Speak with George Nicolades (not sure if I have the right spelling) in the Allied Health office M401. He's a good guy, a real student advocate and has been a great source of information and assitance. From what he told me ...
  14. Ukrainian guy needs help!!!

Hi Sergei I'm not sure where you live. I'm in the pre-clinical nursing program at Kingsborough Community College in Brooklyn. There are more than a few Russian immigrants in my classes, and they are doing well from what I can tell. Check out the King...
  15. Considering nursing as a career change

I am a 48 yr old man who left Wall Street (I also managed a call center a few years back) in August 08 to study nursing. It's a little complicated how I came to the decision, but part of it had to do with caring for a family member with Alzheimer's o...
  16. Some A&P II advice

Just finished A&P II. In many ways it was even more fascinating than A&P I. However, make sure you understand fluid balance homeostasis, electrolytes, acids/bases, and hormones before you begin (or soon after starting). If you don't, you'll ...
  17. A&P II Winter/Spring '08

Finished A&P II yesterday. In many ways even more fascinating than A&P I. Some advice.... Get the following stuff down before you start: acids/bases, ions, fluids/electrolytes homeostasis, and all the hormones. You'll need to understand these...
  18. Repeating a pre-clinical class at Kingsborough CC

    So was mine.
  19. Repeating a pre-clinical class at Kingsborough CC

Just finished Bio 11. The professors are fantastic! If you want to learn, they'll help you in anyway they can. The students are another story. More than a few should have been dismissed from the class within the first four weeks...they didn't have ei...
  20. Repeating a pre-clinical class at Kingsborough CC

Hi I had a very similar situation in August. I don't want to go into details here. It turned out well, but I STRONGLY recommend that you speak to an advisor (George is fantastic) and get written confirmation that the withdrawal will not be held again...
  21. My Stint In The ICU During Fallujah Attacks

Thank you for taking care of them. What comes next doesn't denigrate their service. It is a call to action for Americans to be conscious of the power we have and to NEVER allow our children to be expended needlessly. Imagine if the majority of us saw...
