  1. Hello! I am a 20 year old student working on my BSN and will graduate in May of 2011. I have always had the idea of joining the army in the back of my mind, and now with graduation soon approaching, it is something I have really started looking into. My problem however, is that I feel extremely naive and I'm not even sure of where to start..do I speak to a recruiter first? I am interested in the Army reserves, and am fully willing and even somewhat excited at the idea of being deployed. I understand this is a serious decision, and I really just want to become fully informed before making anything final. If anyone can share any advice on where to start/what to be aware of/or what questions to ask, that would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance, Carly :)
  2. I had to do the same thing in order to move on to the next part of my interview with HR as well. Nothing to be nervous about...it is similar to the state written test, except it was only 20 questions. The questions were basic as well, things you should know anyway. (B/P, avg. respiration rates, first signs of skin breakdown, etc.) Nothing to worry about, I'm sure you'll be fine! Good luck with the interview!
  3. So to begin, here's a little background on my day going to work... I was supposed to go to Wisconsin today for a party with family/friends that I only see a few times a year, however I was scheduled to work, so I wasn't super excited to be at the hospital in the first place...however, *work* happens..so what are you going to do.. I left a few minutes earlier today because I was treating myself to Starbucks, and lo and behold when I was nearly at the expressway, I realized that I had spilled my coffee all over my uniform:eek:...turn back, get stuck by a train, get to work late..arrghh... Anyway, for what seemed like a really bad start to a day, keeping a positive attitude at work really helped in the long run. I had a sitter case for the second half of my shift, and the whole time my new 89 year old friend told me all about his experiences in WWII, his marriage, family, etc. As I was leaving to go home, he said "If I don't see you tomorrow, I wish you the best of luck. You were a lot of fun, and you made me forget all about my problems while you were here" What a sweetheart:heartbeat Reminds me why I love my job =)
  4. Although the internship may be a good opportunity, when are you ever going to get the chance to travel Europe with friends for nearly 2 weeks?? I'd take Europe...you'll work the rest of your life.:chuckle just my , good luck with whichever decision you make!
  5. I recently had my first phone interview for a hospital near my house, so I know how nervous you feel! A good way to prepare is to have all the questions you think they might ask you written out, and some short responses to them. Common ones are, "why did you choose this hospital", "what are your strengths/weaknesses". They might also ask about previous work experiences. Mine was only about 15-20 minutes long and it was not as bad as I pictured it out to be! My advice, BE YOURSELF! Ha, and this sounds silly, but when I had mine I made sure to use the cordless phone because when I get nervous I have a hard time sitting still, so being able to walk around with the phone while interviewing actually calmed my nerves! Good Luck!
  6. Thank you very much for your very detailed response!! I just completed my first week of orientation in the classroom, so I already feel much more confident than I did.
  7. As a student myself who has been babysitting for a few years to rake in some extra cash, I always appreciate the clients that are straight up with me. Try talking to her about your situation and if need be, negotiate with her. However for what it's worth, $80 with snacks and movies once a week sounds fair.
  8. Thanks so much you guys! I'm finishing up my pre-req's this fall semester and starting NS in the spring, so I'm glad to hear working on this floor will help me out!
  9. Hi all! I've recently been certified as a CNA and will be starting my first CNA job in the telemetry unit at a hospital near my house (2nd shift). My question is what exactly a day looks like for a CNA in a telemetry unit. I did clinicals in a LTC facility, but I feel like the hospital will be a lot different. Am I right to believe this? My interviewer covered the basic tasks expected of me as a CNA, however I'm still really nervous! I start orientation next week, so if anyone could help me out here it would be greatly appreciated!:) Thanks! runningchk
