  1. I am so upset about this. I have been working the last two years to be able to attend this program; now all my work is in vain!
  2. Thanks for the info. It isn't what the director of the Hamden program sent to me. They seem much more strict in terms of coming in late etc (which I would never do.) I also was told that classes/clinicals are 5 days a week in Hamden, but someone else from another program (the Hartford one, I think) said her classes were 3 days a week, one being the clinical. I wonder what they are going to do with all of the possible flu classes that could happen this year. Thanks alot for your help! I really appreciate it!
  3. Also Hamden meets every day, all day, through the week. If I read it correctly, at least one of the other schools only meets 3 days a week...
  4. Hey Regi, What is the attendance policy at Kaynor? The reason I ask is I was told that at Hamden you could only miss 5 theory classes and then you were out. I haven't applied because I found out that my married daughter is expecting her first baby in April and I want to be there for the birth and to help them the week afterwards. I am rightly concerned that I could end up missing more than 5 between the birth and helping her afterwards. An absence consists of leaving early, coming in late etc. There is no leeway at all. It seems though that the attendance policy varies from school to school so I figured I would see what your school says. I certainly don't plan on missing, but need to have that option depending on my daughter's pregnancy. With all the rumors about the swine flu going around, you would think that 5 days wouldn't even cover sickness. So even though I have worked for the past 1 1/2 to get my preqs and other courses done, I am not applying at this point. I may considering doing the evening class up in Middletown next September.
  5. Thank you both so much for posting! It has been very hard to get any info from people who are in the program now, and even harder to get exact info from the tech schools. For example, I wrote and asked what the "passing" score was for the TEAS for the State LPN programs and I was told by one of the directors that they didn't know. They weren't told by the board that directs all the programs so they couldn't tell me. I think it would help people who are taking the TEAS to know if they scored high enough or if they should take them again. Too little info on the websites.
  6. I think you make a valid point. In their attempt to make it more selective it seems they have made it out of reach of some people. I guess that it will just take time for people to get their college credits and then I bet the enrollment will go back up. Good for those of us who have finished our requirements for this year.
  7. okay thanks. I wonder why more people aren't applying now? I had heard that it was pretty competitive to get into the programs.
  8. Thank you I really appreciate anything you can share. Do you know if the remediation is for all the state tech schools, or just the one that you are attending?
  9. wow thanks for posting that link! Are you a student in one of the state LPN programs? If so, where and what do you think of it?
  10. Hey Regi, Great to hear from you!! Applications are being taken through October for the state LPN programs, so people may be waiting to send in their applications until they have taken the TEAS for the last time. I did well on it when I took it the first time (97 percentile) but am probably taking it again to up my math grade. I would be applying to Hamden, but where is the Kaynor campus? How are you finding the classes - especially teaching the placement of tubes etc? Do you find in your clinicals that you are well prepared before you start them?
  11. So class is only on Tuesdays???
  12. Thank you for giving such a great rundown. It really is a help in deciding where I should go!
  13. Hi- I was interested in the program at Hamden - Lincoln Tech? Any info you can give me would be appreciated? Are books/uniforms supplied? Do they make it affordable - do they offer any types of help?
  14. Neecy, our school in Ct (LPN) is now using the TEAS instead of the NET also. They are also not looking as much at the overall score, but at each individual section as well. THey aren't putting out an official info about how it is being used to rank though. This is their first year using this test, so I wonder if they are using it as a basis for other years classes too. Maybe that is why we can't find out what their qualification scores are.
  15. Hi - Is anyone planning on applying for any of the state LPN programs that start in January, 2010? I took the TEAS at QU yesterday and there were a few people there taking it as well. Would love to chat with anyone planning on applying! October 30th is the deadline!
  16. Please don't go on whatever someone else says - only you know whether it is right for you. I am sorry that your mom isn't supportive. I have always supported my kids in anything they wanted to try. Sounds like there are other issues that might be in play. Go for it. If it works out, great. If it doesn't you haven't lost anything. Don't sit around and wonder if you should have...
  17. If you are in the program now, can you advise us on things we can do beforehand to be better prepared for the class? Thanks!
  18. Nope, since they are now requiring the TEAS, I need to prepare for it. I did email and ask what the "average" was they were looking for, but they wouldn't give me an answer. Would like to have an idea, but I guess they don't know. I noticed that we have to sign up for the session marked "LPN programs only." I wonder if there is some kind of difference?
  19. Wow, sounds if we followed the same life path! I hope to start LPN school in January and am doing the preqs now!
  20. Go for it! You aren't alone - there are many of us in our 40's and 50's who are just now getting to go to school!
  21. I would think it would be, but then, that shouldn't affect you. Also, I think there will be many people in the class who are there for the same reasons as you. Good luck on the test! Let us know what is on the test!
  22. Thanks - good to know!
  23. Do they give more than one chance to pass their exit exam?
