Has anyone else ever failed Nursing 101
I am in my third semester of nursing school in an ASN program. I was to graduate in May 2010, and 2 days ago got a 90% on our semester required math calculations exam, so I will be withdrawn from the program. I am heartbroken. I am a single mother with four children, and up to this point have handled the stress quite well, earning a B in Fundamentals, and a B in an accelerated summer semester of Med-Surg. I feel like I have let everyone down, my classmates, my family, but especially my children. What kind of a mother am I that is incapable of properly supporting her children? I don't know what to do. I can reapply but the course is not offered again until summer semester 2010 at the earliest, maybe not until fall. I have never had much self esteem, but my acceptance and success in this program up to this point had given me a little bit of self confidence. That is all gone now. I feel like the same loser I was before I began school, and am fearful I will always remain a loser. I am terrified.

GPC Fall 08?
I am excited to hear the positive!!! It is difficult when you only hear the negative, and then begin to worry about the choices you are making. Last fall, I went in to the academic advising office and spoke with J T about GPC's nursing program. I had heard from other students about the 50% drop out rate, so I wanted to discuss that with Ms. T. Ms. T did not volunteer that statistic to me, but when I asked her specifically about it, she did confirm that my information was correct. When I asked her why the drop out rate was so high (and this is drop out rate, not fail out rate) she said she wasn't completely sure, but understood it was for a couple of reasons. The biggest reason she gave was that students felt the staff was not supportive of them, and even indifferent, and also that many people could not handle the rigorous 8-5/ 5 day a week schedule that the program requires. For whatever reason, I am happy to hear that improvements are being made, and that students feel better about GPC! I have loved GPC up to this point, and hope that my nursing school experience does not change that opinion.

GPC Fall 08?
I have applied to the GPC program that begins in January, 2009 at the Clarkston campus. I have been attending GPC for the last year doing all my prereq's. I have heard horrible things about GPC's nursing program, and after logging in last night and reading some comments, I am terrified. I am a single mom with four children, my first daughter will begin college in the fall. I feel as if I have one shot at this, and am afraid my experience at GPC's nursing program will be my downfall. I have loved GPC up to this point, but after talking with one of the acedemic advisors at the Dunwoody campus, she confirmed to me that the dropout rate is over 50%. Any recent graduates of GPC care to offer up some help??? Thanks so much!
