LPNs at my facility feel they are being direspected
It is NOT your fault! These companies now are really getting in over their heads. They say there is a nursing shortage but I truly don't beleive there is. Most of the nurses out there are either burned out completely due to the nonsense of caring for 9-10 patients a peice and have pursued other careers or they are working different areas, such a nurse consulting. I really believe if LVN's were able to do more and the hospitals weren't so adamant about wanting RN's only then there wouldn't be such a shortage. I am sorry you are having to go through this. I wish you the best of luck and hope things will get better for you.

Unsafe situations...Your thoughts please
This is EXACTLY what I was thinking! What a JERK! This agency you work for is very unprofessional! They should have sat down with you and had case conference on each of these patients you took on so you would know something about them. I can't stand to go into a patient's home and knowing nothing about them. To me that is unprofessional and unfortunately I haver worked for some places like that. Don't give up on home health. There are some good agencies out there and it is a very rewarding career. Unlike the hospital, you get to spend quality time with your patients and that's what it's all about. Best of luck to you:)

Do ANY hospitals in Dallas still hire LVNs?
Thank you for replyin ganeese. I am having no trouble with getting a job at the nursing homes but I would rather be in the hospital setting. I may look into the Dr's office. CD

Do ANY hospitals in Dallas still hire LVNs?
I am so frustrated when I look through the paper for a job and find that every hospital that advertises want RN's. I am going to get my RN as soon as I graduate (next month), but is there anywhere I can go besides the nursing homes to work in the mean time? Thanks, CD

Study Guide Recommendations?
Definitely get an NCLEX book to study! My teacher is actually thinking of making it a requirement that next years class gets one at the beginning of the year. Everything you will learn in school comes from these books. You will get a head start on what you will learn in school and become familiar of the type of critical thinking questions the instructors will give you on your tests. You can also use this book as a study guide to go along with all of your classes. I bought the NCLEX-PN review guide by Saunders. It goes into detail all of the different disease processes, drugs, etc. It even comes with a CD rom to take practice tests and quizzes. Best of luck to you next year :) CD

Problems at Home.....
Thank you all so much for the advice! I am going to stick it out and wait a few months after school before making a major decision such as divorce. Thanks, lvn2004:cool:

Problems at Home.....
I am in Nursing school right now and stressed to the max! My husband and I are having problems, I feel like I have no time for my kids, and I have so much school work to get done by Monday that I don't see how I am going to do it. Ugh! I can see now why the divorce rate is so high. My husband and I have been together for several years and things were going well before school. He's working a couple different jobs while I attend school full time and we never see each other. When we do all we do is argue. We never go out (never did to begin with) and I feel lonely, like a single parent. I tell him something and he doesn't listen. When he's off he doesn't do anything around the house. He yells at the kids. I want to leave but can't until I graduate this summer. My question is will this pass or is it an indicator that something really is wrong? One thing nursing school has given me is some self confidence that I had been lacking before. Thanks! lvn2004

Nurses with Adult ADD
Hi echo, I have the ADHD and have been through some of the same things you have experienced. I have had numerous jobs, get bored and frustrated easily and have a hard time concentrating. I am getting ready to start school in August and I am nervous about it because of what I have. I am currently on medication for the ADHD and for depression and it seems like it is helping me. Of course I won't be able to fully tell until I start school, but I am very determined to do this. Nursing is all I have ever had a real passion for. I have read similar posts as this one in the past and they say it can be done only we will have to work twice as hard at it. We can do this! :)It's definitely worth it.
