Hi everyone!I am thinking about military nursing and am wondering if there is much need for Peds nurses? Will I be able to do Peds as active duty or will I get put in med/surg? Is there a certain branch that would be more likely to place in Peds? Or certain hospital? And how would it work if you had to do a deployment? Any help is much appreciated.Thanks! :)

It would be a nursing mistake, not sure how severe but am thinking for the debate that it doesn't matter. I guess the question it, it the pt isn't hurt by it do you admit the mistake to the family??

I am participating in a grp debate in my nursing topics class and was wondering if anyone had any insights into this topic. The debate is over whether or not a nurse should tell the family when a mistake is made w/o any harm to the pt. Does anyone know of any articles or studies that have to do with this topic? Hello, I am not sure what all the concern is about not being able to get a job in CO for nursing, from my experience there still is a shortage in CO. I am not yet a nurse but i have RN friends and RN student friends, I will be starting school this Oct. I think that prob is that there are only so many new grad positions. Also, some hospitals in denver only hire BSN's (i.e. University Hospital). Now, i don't think anyone can tell you what the best hospital is, b/c the "best" really comes down to you and what your looking for. If i were you i would look at a previous thread that talks about the different hospitals in Denver/metro Denver just to get an idea. You will find that some hospitals might fit you better due to the trauma level or the specialities etc.

I have a question about the BSN program, I know that it is 22months long. I was wondering if anyone is allowed to take one an extra class etc., to speed up the process?? Thanks:D

I don't have by RN yet, can you do an online BSN w/o RN?? I dunno, i have some decisions to make! Thanks

I am a grad of UNC, however they are really really competitive!! The acceleraded program only takes like 10 people and you have to work in Norther CO for 2yrs. I dunno maybe going in as a regualr student at UNC??

I am from Denver, and i have looked into other schools. Regis U, i applied and didn't get in they denied 2/3 of the applicant pool. Metro/CU Denver i couldn't apply for b/c i just finished my pre-reqs and didn't meet the deadline.

Shoot!!! I was thinking this much but thought i would ask. The only thing i can think to do is wait until the school gets its accreditation and then go for the military?? The prob is i really don't want to wait anylonger (im not getting any younger!) and i really want to get my BSN not ADN b/c i already have a BA. Geeezzzz i with is wasn't such a pain to get into nursing school!

i think undercover nursing would be a great idea!!! of course not conducted by the hospital itself but by and independent evaluating agency, that will publish its report for both admin and staff to read. i think that would be the only way to get right down to what the probs are. when staff knows that an eval is occurring then everyone is on guard and the evel is not being conducted in the "real working atmosphere" and thus results are of little use. i think it would also be great for the admin to be evaluated also, so they can see first hand how they affect the staff. and if current nurses do the eval then of course there will be biases, fear of retribution etc., and it is easy for the admin to dismiss the findings, but not if an independent contractor does it. also, if an independent nurse does the eval, then it would be an eval of the entire program/hospital (from nurse perspective) as a whole; no one person/nurse would be targeted (unless something really really bad was going on), it would be a general perspective.

HI, I am going to be starting nursing school in Oct. for my BSN. The school i am going to is new, first class graduated in 2006, and is in the process of getting its NLN accreditation. I am thinking about joining the military after i graduate but was wondering if this would effect me? I am not sure if the school will be accredited by then (2010) but think it should be or very close to it. The school is approved by Colorado State board of higher education (full approval pending accreditation) so we will be able to sit for the NCLEX. would the military accept this?? Thanks:D

thanks for the input, i might hit you up for hcr # soon but i want to make my decision on which branch before i contact a hcr. i know that you have lots and lots of experience:bowingpur, so not sure if you will know the answer to this...but do you find that new nurses do well in army? or would is it be better to have a yr or so under my belt? and one more question, about the specialty that you’re put into, do they take past work exp. with regards to placing you in a specialty even if it is not rn exp.? i am asking b/c i am currently an intensive case manager in nyc for adults that are deemed by omh to have a severe and persistent mental illness. i really don't think, at least for now, that i would want to be a psych rn b/c i am slightly burnt out and while i would never completely close it off as a specialty, i would like to explore other options. thanks p.s. i was watching a military documentary the other day and made me want to tear up thinking about what all the men/women in service are sacrificing for everyone. memorial day best wishes to all who serve and have served in military. :redbeathe

so, its fleet week in nyc happens every memorial day weekend, the city becomes over run by the navy. i have posted before trying to get info on navy/army nursing. i thought i would take advantage of fleet week and when i was out last night tons of navy/marines were out as well and i decided i would get first hand info on navy experience. while most of the guys i spoke with were happy to be in the navy, there were quite a few that hated it. i found that in general the marines were more content than the sailors. anyway to come to my question, i heard that the navy eats its young. has anyone found this to be true? i spoke mainly with enlisted, which i know is diffirent but, i just wanted a general sense. i am trying to choose btwn navy or army. also, why does it seem like officer training for army oblc is easier than navy ocd??? thanks inadvance hope everyone is having a good memorial day wkend

Silly question about the contacts... One of my prof told me when he was in the army (forever ago) that he was issued ugly army glasses that he had to wear. Does that still happen? I know that was a long time ago prob before contacts and he was enlisted but he said he wasn't allowed to wear his regular glasses.

Hi all, I am going to start an accelerated BSN program in OCT and am thinking of joining the military when i am done, so i don't really know anything about the process. I am assuming that OBLC is like boot camp? Is that only for army or do air force and navy also have to do it? Just wondering b/c i am slightly concerned about boot camp, just the word scares me!:uhoh21: What do you have to do exactly to pass your PT...like how many push ups ect. thanks in advance ps are all the branches created equal when working as a nurse?

I signed the enrollment agreement, but have not heard anything since. and you won't freeze your ass off...well maybe a little since you two are from cali but denver isn't too bad, not as much snow as you might think. And the upside is, even when it snows it should be gone by the next day!!! Not to mention that the sun shines more days a year in CO than in FL!

Hello I think i am gonna start this fall at DSN. I am from CO (denver metro area) but have living in NYC for the last 3yrs. If i end up going to the school i will be back in town in Aug. So, even though i won't be new to the state i kind of feel like i am starting over.
