  1. Yuck! I feel sorry for you girls. In our hospital it's 4:1 on days, occasionally 5 if we are in a pinch! 5-6 patients on nights. I think I'm spoiled!
  2. My advice to you is, go to job fairs. Get your face out there and try to meet nurse managers if you can. Nurse recruiters are the one's look at your application, and they decide who to foward to. You may not always get the best position you want right away, but things change. I have been a nurse for almost 2 years now. I started in Med/Surg, now in the float pool and I'm about to go into the ICU. It can change very easily if you are aggressive.
  3. So here is my dilema. I'm planning on going traveling this summer. It's not set in stone as far as a job. I'm working with two different companies to see which one I like the best. My specialty is Med/Surg, but I currently work in the float pool at a hospital that I love. Yesterday my boss asked me if I want to train in the ICU. What do I do? It's the perfect time in my life for me to travel. I'm not getting any younger. However I think the ICU would be a great opportunity also. Any suggestions? Thanks
  4. At the hospital I work at it's usually 4 patients on our med/ surg floor. We get 5 on a very busy/short staffed day, and three on a lucky day. We also have a CNA. Night shift's usually take 5-6 patients with one CNA on the floor.

I'm just starting out. I found out that your home license has to be a compact state, otherwise you have ot apply for every state you go to. I started with an MN license, and then got an Iowa one. I thought I was ok having the Iowa license, but when I wanted to go to Colorado they told me I had to apply again.
