  1. I am a new RN grad who graduated in May from a very well known nursing school in Miami...i was in the same boat as you. Fortunately, i am one of the few who finally 2.5 months got interviews and the such and job offers. This is what i learned...it's all about timing and just calling and going at the right time. I devised this game plan about two weeks ago, but i never got to use it... In addition to applying over the internet, fax your resume, cover letter, and any letter of recommendations to the nurse recruiter at each hospital you are interested in. Make sure you call ahead, and get their name and address everything to them. Then call them or go to HR office and talk to the recruiter. Don't be overly pushy, just show them your interest and enthusiasm. Tell them you applied online and faxed them your resume, cover letter, etc. Then tell them that you realize that they have probably been swamped with calls from new RN's but you are interested in their specific facility, and tell them why. Maybe it's a feeling you get when your there, maybe you know someone there..Try to make yourself stick out. Ask them for their business card, wait a couple days and call again. DO NOT STALK THEM, just try a few phone calls, if no response..wait a bit...a week or two, then politely call again and tell them that you are still interested in their facility and if any positions open up, you would love for them to consider you. This is what my mom who used to be the director of human resources at a home health agency told me to do. Faxing is great, bc then it get's put directly on the recruiter's desk. Just make sure you address the fax to the recruiter, using their specific name, Faxes are alot easier to look at, and if it's on ur desk, your more likely to look it or catch a glance, instead of having to pull up apps on the computer. Try those tricks, and good luck. With persistence you will find something, just try and have patience even if it's hard. I was in your shoes, so i can sympathize. Good luck!
  2. Thanks everyone..after deciding to just stop thinking about it, i sat down and relaxed for a bit..before i realized what i was doing, i called the hospital in Miami and accepted the offer. I had a headache, and had decided that i just needed to stop being so emotional over it, and worrying so much about making the right decision. I needed to be smart, so i did it. :) Big leap. But i am ready to start my career. THANK U ALL AGAIN!
  3. i don't know the benefits in detail with with palm beach facility except that they have the standard health benefits, 401 K, tuition reinbursment. Tom i am supposed to go to them and sign contract and do drug test, titers, etc. i will know more then. The facility is Miami is offering what i mentioned. i just called the palm beach facility and they do not offer loan forgiveness. i have a quarter in my hand about to flip it. ahhhhhh!!!!!!
  4. Thanks for your response. I was thinking the same thing. But the important thing for me is the env at the facility. Everyone at the facility in Palm Beach was so overly nice and they loved me, as i loved them. The only draw back is that it is a 2 yr contract. The facility at Miami is wanting a one yr contract. and they are also nice it's just a diff atmosphere. Ahhh i am so lost.
  5. Hi everyone! I'm hoping someone can give me an insight into what i should do. I am a new RN who graduated in May. I have received 2 job offers within the last week. I am so confused . I have made a pro and con list and still can't decide. i need advice. I am so lucky to have received the offers because so many of my fellow peers are still struggling to even get an interview. So believe me, i am appreciative. Both hospitals are here in South Florida, one in Palm Beach County and the other in Miami. There is a salary difference between both places that totals @850.00. Not a big deal. One facility is offering a sign on bonus of 3,000 and a loan forgiveness up to 25,000. This facility is offering me days. The second facility is in South Palm Beach County is offering my nights. there is no sign on bonus there , i am not sure of loan forgiveness. I would be a ortho nurse at the facility in palm beach and a med surg nurse at the miami hospital. I am so lost i can not make a decision to save my life. Any input would help. Oh yeah, and i live in Pembroke pInes, so it takes me 30 minutes to boca and 30 minutes to miami. Same distance either way. I am grasping at straws. help is needed! PLEASE!!!!
  6. If I remember correctly my acceptance letter for the spring start was September 26th. So u should get ur letter round that time I'm assuming. Good luck!!
  7. I feel for you guys! I know how u feel. I was going crazy last year while waiting to see if I got in. I called several times too. But let me tell you that they won't crack at all and give u any information until the letters go out. I was in the advisement office to get papers filled out last week..and I swear the receptionist was going crazy fielding phone calls about the applications.. Lol.. I was also on my advisor like white on rice trying to get info when I applied, but she couldn't tell me anything until the letters finally went out. LOL. I Know it stinks.. But you will here soon enough.. I wish nothing but the best for all you. Enjoy ur free time now!!!! Lol... Cause when you start ur life is over!! U will eat breathe and sleep nursing school. I'm in my semester and I've already had 2 meltdowns. Oh well!! I guess it comes with the territory. good luck everybody!
  8. Hi everyone. I am a second semester generic student at MDC. I have a friend who applied last spring for entrance into the august 08 program. I asked her when she got her letter and she looked for it... Called me and said hers was dated may 28th. So since the deadline was may 1st... It looks like you guys should hopefully be hearing any day now. I was glued to mine for a whole week. I got my acceptance letter a little less than 4 weeks!!! Best of luck to all of you!!!!!
  9. I started summer classes today..med surg and pharmacology...it's all done in ten weeks...i should be studying...tons of reading and clinical tomorrow and wed. instead i am sitting here procrastinating..i read about 5 pages and fell asleep too! I am soooo not into the studying mode! I need a swift kick in the a**!! Any takers? lol!
  10. I am a mdc nursing student and I heard that there has been @1000-1100 applicants for the generic program. When I went to orientation in November they had told us @800 people had applied. They take about 160 students for the program. You should find out within the next two weeks or so. I found out about a week or so after their application deadline if I remember correctly. They r finishing up final grades this week. So next week I hear they start going over the applications. Good luck! I know how u feel waiting.
  11. You have to realize that just because the cut off for last semester was about a 3.6 it does not mean that for the incoming semester it is the same. They determine the cut off based on the applicant pool. If a majority of applicants have.... Let's say... a 3.7 to 4.0. The cut off will probably be 3.7. It is hard to sit here trying to figure out what the cut off is when you have no idea as to the gpa's that are in the applicant pool. A 3.4 is really good..it just depends what the other gpa's are. I know it can be frustrating. I felt like I was I was going crazy waiting and waiting to here. As far as that "mafia"comment, I'm not going to justify it with a response. Good luck to everyone!
  12. Hey everyone....I am finishing up my first semester at MDC, and from what i can remember the cut off for generic was about 3.6. Let me tell you, if you want it badly and you don't get it, try again. Nothing in life that is worthwhile comes easily. I know someone in the accelerated program and the cut off for the spring sememster was about 3.8 or so. Good luck to everyone applying, it is hard work and you may have to give up your life..lol!!! but it is worth it in the end! good luck again.
  13. FSUMiamiBoy...i can't pm you until i have posted 15 messages! OMG! This is mesage 12 i think...So i have to answer you on here. I didn't apply to the scholars program, bc i don't want to commit to either hospital for 2 years! I don't want to be locked into anything. You never know what life can bring you. Did you apply?
  14. Sorry FSUMB.....i meant the20th. Lol! i bet i got you all freaked out! I don't know why i said the 10th. Probably bc my head is all over the place. I am already losing my mind and i havent even started. LOL. I am in the middle of looking at places to move to down in Broward county, so i was probably thinking of something else....sorry!
  15. Vondutchess...i tried to Pm you when i got your message the other day, but for some reason, i can't seem to do it. I am trying to figure it out still, but maybe i am just dense with it. Do you have an email adress i can email you at? I will send you some info there...whatever you need including my phone number. PM when u have a chance. Orientation for the generic program is Nov. 10th. So i don't know i can help you with the classes, i see there are some people on here that are going to be starting with you into the accelerated program. Maybe they can help you out. Let's see what we can do...
