we get put on call and get 2 dollars an hour, if we get called back in we get time and a half for the rest of the shift

i deliver a baby once with the dr at the nurses station,pt was 8 when dr broke her water and he went out to do paper work, nest uc she moaned and was complete told dr, boke down bed cuz dr was 40 feet away, next push the head was out and the dr was over my shoulder and coached me through the rest, dont feel bad it does happen

we had a 28 weeker that had a 24 urine protein that was 30 grams, we shipped her to a bigger hosp they del baby did well but mom was on a vent for three days.

if they would have to do an internal exam you might ask if they could give her something to relax her maybe even a mild sedation, dont get me wrong im not for over medicating but something like this can be very scary for a young girl, when i was 15 i got toxic shock and they caught it early and i recovered but they were talking about doing that and i was terrified. good luck to you as i have only boys i will never truly understand what it is like to have girls, and sometimes im grateful just thinking about this makes me wnat to cry for you and her. best of luck to you both

i feel for you, and agree with some of the other posts, try a smaller hospital, i work in a hospital that del about 300 del a year, i love that i get to bond with my laboring pt most days,(unless we are really busy), i also get to help mom learn to breast feed as well as basic care, just thinking about working in a dept where i couldn't bond with pt, i know i wouldn't be happy. keep your chin up you obviously went to school for a reason.

I also do believe that ob or post partum pt need to be cared for by nurses who have been trained and have experience in ob or pp, would you want a l&d nurses taking care of your family in icu, on too many drips to count, i wouldn't know what all to look for as well as experienced icu nurses.

we do as well, but we also have a nurse in ob to control the situation while you change clothes ect, we also do not take a pt load but float to help answers lights,give meds or iv pushes esp if there is only one RN on.

there is a flip book that our dept got. as you flip the pages over the cervix goes from closed to fully dilated, when i go to work on friday i will see if I can find out where we got it and let you know, it was very helpful when we were training 3 nurses and multiple checks might have been torturous

two years ago we had a lady that moved from the new england area and she called gowns johnies as well, coiuldn't for the life of me figure out why she wnated a bedside commode when all we were doing was cleaning up a fresh c-section patient, we still get a laugh out of that

to late for this year but all the managers at our hospital make gift baskets and then draw names to see who gets them, they also do breakfast and lunch for us on friday.

our nurses week started today with skills lab and an umbrella,doing it again tomorrow, then friday they do breakfast and lunch for us they draw anmes for gift baskets and last month we all got to nominate someone for nurse of the year dont know who it is yet. they do something like this every year.
