I am a new nursing student and have shadowed in the OR several times and love it! Would they hire a fresh RN out of school?

Maybe it is also based on the state in which you are going to school. I am in Missouri and that is what I have been told by other people. I agree that it is not about your level of education but your quality of care.

I have heard that the BSN degree is only more college credit hours. I think you basically get the same clinical experience which shouldn't make a difference. It is just a title and more schooling.

I am wondering if anyone had any feedback on Goldfarb School of Nursing through Barnes? I am struggling to get through my pre-reqs at the community colleges but am afraid I won't make it through College Algebra or Statistics. I am 43 and don't know if it is all worth it or not. I heard they just started a program at Missouri Baptist location which would be so much closer for me since I live in St. Charles. Anyone going there or have graduated from there?

Just practice the math and retake the test. I had to get on websites to refresh my math skills. I believe the one I did was www.aaamath.com. It is awesome for testing yourself and explaining stuff. I passed the math portion with an 82%. I didn't have to take the English part because of my ACT score. I have literally checked out every school possible in the area and this school works the best for me. It is very far from my home in St. Charles though. That will take some getting used to.

I would try to get the transcripts there ASAP. All I know is Lora said that they review the applications in June. I am taking A&P lab this summer. Already took the lecture. I am in A&P II this Fall. I have no idea how many apps they review.

I'm sure it will help. Did you fill out all of the paperwork? They review apps in June.

I don't know if I have been accepted until June. I am really hoping that I am. I have a couple of friends that have been through the program and really liked it. Go online and fill out all of the paperwork. The sooner the better. Good luck and let me know if you have any more questions.

WOW! We have a lot in common! My 14 year old is also a boy, has his first girlfriend and isn't interested in school. My 12 year old girl has a better head on her shoulders for the time being. I am just so worried about bringing more stress into the family but I hope it will also be a good influence on them. I'm so confused! I also don't want to get burnout!

I'm 42 years old and am starting nursing school in January. Am I selfish to go back to school now? I know I should have done it before kids and now my kids are 12 and 14. I feel like I need to be here more than ever for them but I'm single and am trying to make a better life for us all. I have discussed it with them and they are okay with it but I'm not sure that any of us know how much time it is going to take away!

I am 41 and my divorce just got finalized. I wanted to do nursing school 15 years ago but kids, marriage, and life in general got in the way. I have been taking my pre-reqs at a community college and was considering moving forward with the RN program next Fall. Now I dont know if I can manage it while being a single mom. It is full time for two years.

Wow! I was just asking. I have actually always wanted to be a nurse and have worked in the medical field before I had kids. I just wanted advice on trade school vs. community college. I didn't ask to be slammed. I am getting divorced and need to support my family.

What is the difference between getting your RN through a trade school or a community college? The community college is much cheaper but they make me jump through so many hoops like: ACT test, dosage calculation test, elementary algebra, general biology. The trade school (Sanford Brown) I can get started with the LPN program in October and bridge to the RN program right after. It is SO much more expensive though! I KNOW that some of the people I have seen at orientation can no way afford the price that they are charging me! It is like it is negotiable! The community college also told me there is a slim chance that I will even get into the Fall 2009 RN program! Hello! I'm almost 40 years old!!!! I have a friend that got her RN from Sanford Brown and she was happy with the program. I have heard some bad things, though, about Sanford Brown so I am SO nervous! Any thought????????????

I am considering nursing school and spoke with two nurses the other night. One had worked in the hospital for 27 years and I'm not sure about the other. Both were "glad to be out of the field". One lady told me it was VERY stressful and she always had to work later than her regular 12 hour shift. She said they were always "short staffed". The other lady told me she was so glad to be out of the hospital and if I should do anything, I should go to dental hygiene school. I don't want to do that. It is not versatile enough for me. Any thoughts?????
