  1. The only state they don't allow you to take calls in without a license is CA, because the CA board of nursing is very strict. Of course a lot of the states are compact states, so your TN license is valid in those. We obtain licenses in MI, WA, PA, IN, OH, CT, and maybe a few others that I'm forgetting.
  2. Licenses in other states are paid for by the company. You have to keep up your CEU requirements for each state.
  3. No problem, oldfaithful. Rntr, there are only a few companies across the company that I have heard about that do this. I don't know the names of any others.
  4. I don't think there is that much turnover. I've been there over a year now, and I can only think of a handful of nurses who have quit. There are a few there that have been there 5 years or longer. We have around 50-60 nurses, so some turnover is to be expected. I think the 1st 3 months would be hard, it was hard for me to get comfortable with phone triage for the 1st few months. I think you would be able to do it, though. We talk to a lot of parents about sick kids, lots of coughing, vomiting, diarrhea, colds, and things like that. It is much less stressful than any nursing job I have ever had. Working from home is the best, too!
  5. oldfaithful, the guideline pretty much tells you everything you need to say. We also have approved websites and documents called "exit care" that we can pull information from and note the source (website) that we obtained it from. You will need to use some nursing judgment. I love the job!
  6. To work from home, you have to buy your own phone. They supply the computer. I am not working from home, yet.
  7. Yes, I am still there. I love the job, but the hours are all evenings and weekends. If you can handle working those hours, it's a great job!
  8. @Tepidorchid... Did you learn medical coding before you were hired for your position? Did you take the coding classes? I'm wondering if that would help when applying for insurance jobs. Thanks!

  10. I spoke with a recruiter from a nurse recruiting agency on the phone the day before my face to face interview. I wouldn't call it a phone interview, but she did ask a few questions. The face to face interview was pretty laid back, I felt very comfortable speaking with my interviewer about my qualifications for the position. Of course I wasn't offered a position, so it didn't go as well as I would have liked. Do you have an interview scheduled?
  11. I do think that I will really like it. I am going to start part-time because I have other commitments that keep me from working 3 weekends per month. My training class starts on February 11th. Are you in Knoxville?

  13. I called the recruiter, they didn't select me. I'm bummed. She said they really liked me and would like to consider me if they have future positions available in my area. They selected someone that had a little more experience in case management.

  15. I haven't heard from them. The HR director said they would be making a decision by today, but the recruiter told me that offers would be made on Monday, so I'm not sure what to think. Feeling a little discouraged, but trying to hang onto my hope.

  18. I had an interview today, and I think it sounds like a great opportunity. They are making a hiring decision by Monday. Are you in TN or NJ, by chance? I am in TN.

  20. Same thing here, I've had 3 interviews in the last 2 months. Felt good about all of them, but they hired someone else. Hang in there, I'm trying to. I'm sure God has something better in store for us. :)
  21. Even if you aren't providing an age, most applications ask for high school name and year graduated, and college names and year graduated. Age can easily be calculated based on HS graduation date, so it could be an age thing. I, personally, think it is an oversaturated market problem. I have been a nurse for a little over 4 years. In my class, all of us had job offers in our last semester. From my understanding, now over 50% of the graduating classes do not have job offers. I started in L&D, quickly changed to hospice, did a year in psych and now I'm just working prn psych and doing seasonal flu shot clinics. I feel painted into a corner with nursing, I could probably get another hospice job, but I am burned out with hospice. I can rarely get interviews in other areas, and then they always select someone with experience in that field. Best of luck to you!
  22. I had 5 months of L&D experience when I took a position as a hospice CM. It can be done, but you are going to have to work very hard, especially the 1st 6 months. If you do it, make sure you get thorough training and have a great PCC or administrator that you can call and ask for help. A lot of hospice is TLC, people just want to know you care. Skills can be learned, but you can't teach compassion. You almost become part of the family when you do hospice, but you have to maintain boundaries (easier with some, than others). It is not an easy job, but I believe it has to be one of the most rewarding nursing specialties that one can choose. Good luck to you!
  23. I have been offered a night shift position in a privately owned residential drug/alchol rehab for women. Anyone work in this type of setting? Do you enjoy the work? The facility is very nice, good pay and great benefits. It almost seems too good to be true (other than nights). I have been doing hospice for 2 years (but very burned out now). I guess I am just scared to make the change, and looking for some positive feedback regarding this area of nursing. And, I have a family member who struggles with addiction, so I already know all about the manipulation and games that addicts play. The good thing about this is it is voluntary for the clients. It is not a lockdown facility. They do medical detox. Thoughts? Any other questions I should ask of the employer?
  24. thanks for the reply, kns519. i am going to try it if their hr dept ever "officially" offers me the position. the manager unofficially offered me the job 3 weeks ago, and i am still waiting on the hr recruiters to finish their part. keeping my fingers crossed!!!
