After nursing school, most of the jobs available to new grads dried up due to the housing crash. I ended up working the med surg floor for a little over 3 years. Finally an opening in the Operating Room opened and I was able to transfer. I say transfer out as soon as an opportunity opens up. If you find an opening after 3 months of working I say take it. As far as working the weekends and holidays, you would still have to do your part. I work a weekend every 6 weeks, and take 2 night calls every month. Stress is still there but it's different in the OR.

How's the program so far? I am considering going through them. Currently working full time in the operating room, so just wondering how the work load is gonna be.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I was worried over nothing. But since I have those 15 Ceu's at the moment, can those be used after my first renewal, or will I have to start over from scratch?

This is for my California nurses... I was wondering how many CEUs are we supposed to have after the first year. I can't find the paperwork that says I need 35 after the first year. I got my license in August 2008, and my license expires in Febuary 2010. I didn't start working till January 2009, so I only got about 15 from some basic arrythmia class that I took. Should I start worrying about it now? And is there any place online that I can look to see more information about this? I just don't want to be scrambling and looking for a class right before the due date. Thanks in advance.

Hi, I pretty much went through what you're talking about. I graduated nursing school in June 2007, and I started working that November. However, I had problems with my NCLEX and I had to resign. I passed my NCLEX last august, but I didnt get hired till recently. I applied to a bunch of hospitals in my area, but they all had very small new grad positions. It seems like it was alot easier to pick up a job last time around. My advice is expand your search farther than just the IE. Have you tried hospitals in the LA area?

Yea, that's what I'm planning on doing, with my job search radius getting larger and larger. It's just frustrating because a year ago, all my friends were passing their test and landing jobs left and right... These 4 months of searching for a job have really been getting me down. But I feel ya on how I shouldn't give up.

I'm pretty much in the same boat. I got my license in August 2008, and I graduated in June 2007 in California. I had some problems taking my NCLEX, and finally passed it on the third try. I'm going to all these new grad job fairs, and it's like I'm worth lower than all those that just graduated. Now that I'm applying for a job, I'm getting the same responses, like your clinical skills are rusty, and I've even gotten a response from a hospital saying they only want RNs that passed their NCLEX on the first try. That's on top of most hospitals asking for 1 year job experience. So it's almost December, and I'm still looking to land my first job. So I feel you OP, it's killing me, but all I can do is keep applying... I've got a new list of hospitals to work with. I'm pretty much leaving my 50 mile radius and going farther and seeing what jobs I can land. Good luck to both of us, cuz this really sucks.

Yea, you're pretty on point when you talk about being a nurse with other non-nurses. I've prolly heard a million Meet the Parents jokes while I took my pre-requisite courses. And about that comment about you people can be nurses now, people assumed I was gay cuz I was in the nursing profession... but seriously, who's laughing when they see me driving my lexus to work .

ATI said I had a 95% chance of passing, but I ended up passing on my third try at 75 questions. Even though the ATI says you're gonna pass, there's no way around studying for the test to improve your chances.

Wow, I just posted up the same thoughts on another thread... I took mine yesterday and finished up at 75. I felt the SATA questions I had were pretty easy as well. I'm not sure if it was easy cuz I studied hard or if they were easy cuz I was below passing... Well good luck to ya, and hopefully we both pass!

So I took my test yesterday and I finished at 75 questions. I felt pretty good because I felt I was wide awake and I understood all the questions on the test. I especially felt good because my previous tests were failures at the 265 and 215 marks, so I wasn't physically exhausted after. But now I'm a little worried. Does anyone know people that stopped at 75 and didn't pass? I'm trying to remember if the questions were too easy to indicate I was answering under the passing line. How often do people fail at 75?

Thanks for the responses... Suzanne's plan looks like the right way to go, so I'll try it out. Oh yea, lovintheOR, I checked out that HurstReview website... It turns out the closest review to where I'm living is like a 2 and a half hour drive without traffic... I prolly woulda tried it out if it was closer.

Whattup guys, I just recently received my results for my nclex-rn test and I've failed for the second time at 265 questions. Both my results say that I reached near the passing line in every category. I was wondering about other nclex study programs out there, besides Kaplan. I tried Kaplan the last time, and I was wondering if you guys could recommend me some other ones. Thanks.

Whattup guys, my first time posting... Well I took my NCLEX on April 16, and still no results yet. I reached the 265 mark, so I'm not sure if thats good or bad either. It's been about 12 days and I'm losing my mind. Do you guys think I still have a slim chance of passing, or is it about the time to face the facts and start preparing again? This is the second time I've taken the test, and I remember waiting awhile for the results to come in. What do you guys think?
