  1. Wow! Whatever happened to compassion to other nurses?
  2. Amen! Well Said Neely 84
  3. Having a good relationship with your recruiter is a must. My first assignment was awful. I would certainly change that. They can't penalize you for something you never signed.
  4. RUN! I want to talk to them about their facility etc. Not just an interview.
  5. I have traveled to Dallas, TX. The place where I went was awful. There were a lot of foreign nurses which was fine but I could not understand them. My area is psych. I don't know how the medical center is. It's tough there. I have a really easy time getting an assignment and I am usually am gone within two weeks. I would request a small town. Good luck!
  6. I still have not left yet. Paperwork. I am supposed to be at work Monday. I am thinking of just getting a cab instead of the bus. Any ideas?
  7. I am signed up for an assignment in Dallas, Tx. I go in today to turn in final paperwork and suddenly they need another vaccine and some other things. It completely stressed me out. I am moving out of my apartment tomorrow and putting it all in storage. What is the normal moving bonus. Mine was 250.00. I had to pay for my own hepatitis booster out of that. Is it always like this?
  8. I have the travel figured out. They put me in a hotel close to the hospital and the dart system. I am already booked on it for Monday,
  9. I have been a nurse since I was nineteen years old. I was taken long breaks from it at times due to stress. To me, it is a calling, not so much a passion. I love being a nurse. I just hate all of the BS that goes a long with it. Not enough time, staffing etc. I have finally found my place in psych. When a patient makes progress and does really well. It makes it all worthwhile.
  10. I Plan to buy one as soon as I make enough money. What kind of travel is there?
  11. I sent you a message. I am not sure which hotel. They are supposed to get with me today. I told them that I need one close to the hospital so I can ride the Dart system. Thank u for your help.
  12. I love Texas. I lived in Waco, Tx for six years. I have also lived in southern California. My main worry is transportation to the hospital since I don't have a car. The manager told me to get a hotel close to the hospital so that is what I am doing. I still dress in jeans and boots. Thank you for your help.
  13. I always welcomed the use of a time out room to get yourself together. It is not seclusion. I admire that you are able to identify when you need to do that instead of acting out.
  14. I am totally new to traveling. I just got my first assignment. I am leaving this Friday. It is a psychiatric hospital which is an area that I love. I am starting to panic a bit because I will know no one. Are there any other nurses in Dallas? What is it like? I am single with two dogs.
  15. I have one of those. My husband does not make much money. He could make more but he doesn't. He doesn't care about my health. He only cares about how many hours I work. I am walking out tonight. I have gotten a fulltime job that I like and I am moving on. If I have to work this hard it is for me. Not him.
  16. I didn't do all of the shifts. I did the 3 12's and that was it. They magically found someone when I told them I could not physically do it. Thank u all for you advice. I have since found out they have plenty of 7-3 positions. Buuubyeeee. Movin on.
  17. I have recently taken two med tests since I signed up with agencies. I brushed up on my basic calculations. That was the biggest concern for me since all of our meds usually come to us precalculated. There were alot of IV calculations and gm's to mg's etc. I was provided with a drug book though. That helped alot. Good Luck. I have a girlfriend who didn't pass and they kept her.
  18. I have recently signed up for agency nursing. I thought it would be better for me. I have found that it is not what it used to be. I did agency years ago, and I was able to tell them when I was available. They were really nice and supportive. I accidently agreed to an 8 day stretch then called back and told them there was no way I could do that and be safe. Please take two days off in between. They called me and said they could not find anyone. They then told me that since I didn't have anymore work the rest of the month I should do it. That was a week before I was scheduled. I did three 12's, night shift, with 12 hours of sleep total. I then called them and told them they had to find someone else. These were shifts during the week usually not hard to fill. I would have done it had they not found someone but they did. I realized I needed to be alot more assertive and proactive. Anyone else's experience with agencies? I am thinking of signing up for some other agencies besides this one. I can't work nights. Thanks.
  19. Thank u all for your advice. I made it but it was tough. I am not doing anymore though. I work for an agency and I am going to Oklahoma for a 7a to 7p shift Saturday and Sunday.
  20. I am working a string of night shifts because I am desperate for money at the moment. I cannot sleep at all the during the day the first night. Does anyone else have this problem? How do you cope if you are not a nightshift person. Any pointers to get through it alertly? I never fall asleep but my brain gets really tired.
  21. I don't really know of any hospital jobs but you could become an MDS Nurse in a nursing home. They are usually willing to train you.
  22. I was not in a position to write her up. She was the Charge Nurse. I went to human resources as well as talked to our boss. She was good at being a staff nurse but horrible as a Charge Nurse. That has been some time ago and they still need nurses. In this economy too. I had an emergency and she ignored me when I told her to call for help. Then she chided me for getting excited. A pt's life was at stake. The poor woman went to ICU. I got excited because I couldn't get anyone to help me. I grabbed a respiratory therapist who passed by and she helped me.
  23. Hi RNtr, It is the administrative side. I totally agree. I love nursing in general. I love my patients. If I could just do that the way it should be done. I would be a happy nurse. I am trying agency nursing. I did that in the 90's when I was an LPN. It was also a very stressful period for me plus my kids were young so I was able to just go in and do my job. Not be involved in the day to day BS. I signed up with two agencies. I will let you all know how it goes. Good luck to you on your new job. I love case managment but there are no jobs like that in this area.
  24. I can totally relate. I just quit my 6th job in a year. It was all the same no matter where I was. This last job I was new and the DON gave me a killer schedule while my son was in from Japan. 11-7 two nights, 3-11 two night then 7-3 the weekend. I was pushing a med cart. I just couldn't do it. All of these jobs have a huge turnover and are always looking for nurses because the conditions are so bad but I feel really depressed and down on myself. I am burnt out on the profession but not on my pt's. I don't know what to do now. My husband is not very supportive. He does not understand that after 29 years and PTSD I just can't take it anymore. He is a CNA. I had one job that I really loved but the Director of Nurses was a real witch and would jump all over you in front of everyone. The program manager loved me and is looking for another job herself because of same issues with this woman. To do the job and do it right takes alot of time. No breaks. Any suggestions?
  25. I have not seen much of this until recently. I worked on a med/surg unit with a nurse who was awful. There were several of us in orientation. She was a new charge nurse who freaked out over everything, big or small. I went to my boss who basically told me that this nurse did what she needed her to do and to deal with it. Five new nurses, including myself, left. I was unable to get an IV on a pt with no veins. I asked her for assistance. She asked me what I would do if I was the on my own implying that I needed to get the IV started even though I had already tried. Geezz.. I always thought this was team work. I don't know how many IV's I have started for other nurses. She talked horribly about other nurses. I was appallled.
