GTCC Spring 2016
Since yesterday was the first day of class.... just wanted to see if anyone could give us advice on how to study? Yesterday she gave use certain things she will be covering in class. I printed out all the powerpoints, and all the information seems very scattered. Also I am looking at the Modules which have each individual topic listed, learning outcomes, resources, and activities. So should I go through each module topic by topic and answer the learning outcomes? Read the text, watch videos? I'm just trying to understand how to piece everything together so there is some sort of organization when it comes to studying. It just makes everything more confusing when they aren't doing chapter by chapter discussions, and have it organized that way. Any suggestions, thoughts or tips would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance!!!!

GTCC Spring 2016
Tfesmire- Thank you so much for all the information you have given! It is very appreciated! I was wondering if you had any tips on studying and what we should utilize the most. I know former students have told me to utilize ATI like crazy, as they use alot of questions and information from those resources. Do you study from the power points? Do you try to answer questions from the objectives they have in the syallabus on each subject? Also students have said that they used NCLEX comprehensive reviews and practice questions alot to help. Peronsally, I'm one of those who tend to over study and try to study everything so if I can try to narrow it down I think that would help alot. Also I'm a very big over analyzer and tend to read into questions too much, so I know that's a no go in nursing! Any advice and help would be GREATLY appreciated! :) Also I wanted to let everyone know that Mrs.Sarmiento emailed us the Clinic Roster with our schedule!

GTCC Spring 2016
Has anyone received their uniforms yet? It's been a little over 2 weeks so I was just curious! :)

GTCC Spring 2016
No I haven't received anything. I doubt they will be contacting each individual person to let them know they received the required paperwork. I would assume, no news is good news personally.

GTCC Spring 2016
I was wondering if anyone is in the same situation I'm in. They said that just the Nursing classes is only 8 credit hours and if you have Financial Aid to be considered Full-Time (which is 12 hours) we should take other classes to fulfill our degree or prepare for our BSN. From what I've heard from the last class their first semester was around $2000 dollars not sure if that's even including tuition. I'm freaking out because I only have $2263 for Financial Aid. Is anyone else taking any other classes? Has anyone heard anything different in regards to cost of the semester? I'm hoping it was $2000 for everything including tuition.

GTCC Spring 2016
They went over things that need to be done before certain due dates. If you weren't at the orientation session you wouldn't be able to do the drug test/background check because you have to have a certain order form to take to LabCorp for the drug test. Basically they told all the alternates to not do anything that costs money, so if I were you I wouldn't worry about anything. If you're an alternate you basically have to wait to get a phone call/email and then you start the process from there. Accepted students have to have drug test done and form turned in by November 4th. So I'm assuming based on the event that anyone fails the drug test and background check, that will be when you could expect a call or email from them.

GTCC Spring 2016
Hey guys. Those of you asking about CPR Certification... Look up CPR Works of Greensboro. The location is in High Point and it's $50 for the BLS Course and it's through the American Heart Association (Provider level). They print your cards at the site as well. I am turning in my CPR card along with my Medical Form all together so they have everything they need! Those asking about alternates... I have heard of alternates getting in, it's just a matter of wether people are accepting their seats and getting everything turned in by the deadline. Good luck to you guys, I hope you get in! :) I'm excited to meet everyone on the 21st for Orientation. And I'm sure if you're an alternate you would definitely know something by then since you'll have to do orientation and get fitted for uniforms.

GTCC Spring 2016
Mshashem- Thank you for the update! I was really hoping to be getting my letter this week! I think with Tiffany leaving and now having another Nursing Advisor the whole process is going to take longer than they anticipated! Hopefully someone else can send the letter, and we don't have to wait for Mr.Cross to get back next week! UGHHH!!! Also in regards to the question about the alternate list. If you are on the alternate list you have a number. So when those who are originally accepted, they have to accept their seat or decline. Once they get the results, those who declined their seat are then offered to those on the alternate list. From what I've heard, they call you and say you're number such and such on the list, do you accept the seat or decline? Hope that answers your question! :)

jbrent890: I can't believe they consider a german shepard an aggressive breed, that's ridiculous. But to answer your question, I currently live at Lake Brandt Apartments and as far as I know they will accept any breed except for pit or pit mix. I have a boxer, and have seen a lot of different breeds while walking around the complex. Also, there is a trail right at the very end of the complex that runs into Old Battleground Park and my boxer loves it. There is also Lincoln Green you could try that is right across the street from Old Battleground Park and like not even 2 mins from Lake Brandt Apts that has a "bark park". Not sure on breed restrictions though, and just a fair warning they do change their prices daily for rent rates :/ Hope this helps!

GTCC Spring 2016
HEY everyone!!!! I am so glad someone has already started a thread for GTCC Spring 2016 class. I applied with 61 points so I'm fairly confident I will get it, but regardless I'm anxiously awaiting the acceptance letter so it's official! :) I wish everyone the best of luck and hopefully we'll soon enough get to meet each other! From what I have heard from friends who have recently been in the program and have made it out alive. They have changed the curriculum so from what it once was it is more "organized", or I guess it kind of flows better and subjects aren't as scattered. They have changed the test passing score from a 70, to a 72 and now I believe from the information session its a 78! EEK! I heard it's hard enough just to get a 70 or 72! Lord, help us all! lol

Ok I am trying to keep tabs, all starting this fall say I
i bought nike shox because every nursing forum i go to, this is the top shoe that provides the most comfort and lasts the longest! the only thing is they are made very narrow, so if you have wide feet these are not gonna be comfortable. also they have a great arch in them. oh and went i went to the er a few weeks ago with a friend, all i saw the nurses wearing is nike shox. crazy lol

GTCC Fall 2009
wasadoggynurse- i am starting the nursing program this fall and was on the alternate list #29. i was sure that i would have to wait til next yr to reapply, but sure enough i got in. 31 is a good number of pts, i would apply and see what happens. you never know until you try. also you said those are your pts without a&p ii, i would def take that this fall. as for the amount of pts for the grades for a&p. a= 12, b=8, and c doesn't get any! i would if i were you take a&p ii with another class, maybe something not too hard because i would try my best to get an a or b! that would make a world of difference, then you would def be either on the alternate list or even get in. it is possible to make good grades in a&p, i had an a in a&p i and barely scraped by with a b in a&p ii! but that is just my advice as far as classes and stuff go. also if you haven't taken the teas yet, i would go ahead and get the ati study guide and start looking over the book. then would take it about a month prior to when you apply for spring. i can see where you are in quite a predicament about the ecpi and gtcc thing about driving. honestly if you're really wanting a concrete answer about wether you should just wait and apply at gtcc or go to ecpi talk to a counselor @ gtcc and see how good your chances are. i am not completely sure, but it seems to me and i am just assuming, that the eveing/weekend program would be harder to get into because of ppl having to work around work schedules. but then again a girl i know, got right in the 1st yr she applied for the evening weekend program. well i hope this answers any of the questions you may have, if you have any more than just let me know and i will be glad to help to the best of my ability!

GTCC Fall 2009
today i went to the school and they told me that we would recieve our schedule the day of orientation, and then if there is some kind of descreprensy they would sit down with you and try to work something out. i did not ask wether we get to choose day or night, but i guess we'll find out here in about 2 weeks. lol. also i don't know if anyone has applied for financial aid there, but the lady told me we should be able to find out next month how much we are to get. my first yr applying for financial aid, so i am really hoping that i get enough to pay for books and tuition.

GTCC Fall 2009
cece,rn- thanks for all the information that you posted up, i'm sure all of this will keep me busy this summer. i definately need to brush up on my math, i am really good with ratio proportions but am starting from scratch with conversions since i haven't had to use them in forever. (if you don't use it, you lose it) most of the words that you put that will be covered in nur 110 i am already familiar with, as we went over some of that stuff in my cna class so i'm a little relieved that some of that will be just a review. we did go over quite a bit of medical terminology as well, but don't really remember a whole lot of it. since you went to gtcc, how did they go about giving you your schedule?! b/c they make your schedule and i was wondering when i should be getting that so i can register for the classes and get my books. we have an orientation day on the 26th of this month, so i was thinking maybe we will get it then.

GTCC Fall 2009
congrats to everyone that got accepted, it's about time we had a gtcc forum lol! i was on the alternate list and just got my call about 2 weeks ago asking if i wanted to accept my seat! i was like omg of course! lol! anyway, i have been waiting for about 2 yrs now, so i cannot wait! i am really nervous about pharmocology, my friend is taking it this summer and she says it's really really tough, alot of information! she said that at the end of the class she has to take the dosage calculation test and if you don't pass with 90% or higher than you fail the class and are put on probation for a year and cannot start anymore nursing classes until the following year! yikes! well once august gets here i would definately like to start up a study group, so to anyone that's interested just let me know!

Pharmacology question
thank you shrimpchips, i am so excited about starting nursing this fall!!!! i've waited for this for 2 yrs! i will definately look into those books, probably hit up barnes and noble tomorrow! lol! i guess i am worrying too much, but our school does the same thing where you have to pass the doc test with 90% or higher. if you don't pass you fail the class and are put on probation for a year and can't start your nursing classes back up until after that year! i definately don't want that to ever be an option, i've waited wayyy to long for this to ruin it! natingale, i think the answer to that question would be 2 tablets?! since their only 5mg a piece, you have to have 2 to get 10mg. i hope i'm right, if not i have no idea lol! but also at the same time, i'm sure all questions are not so simple! there have to be more complicated ones or this wouldn't be the class that weeds out all the people!

Ok I am trying to keep tabs, all starting this fall say I
i just got a call last wednesday asking if i wanted to accept my seat because i was originally on the alternate list, number 29 to be exact! so me getting in is a huge blessing. i thought i would prob have to reapply next year. i'm not exactly sure when my first day is but we do have an orientation day june 28 to get fitted for our scrubs and everything! i'm going to guilford technical community college in jamestown, north carolina.

Pharmacology question
well i just got accepted on last wednesday!!!! is there anything else that i can go over to be ahead of the gang when i start in the fall?! my friend who is taking pharm says she's very overwhelmed with all the information and math. i tend to stress out very easily and would like to be able to come in with some good basic knowledge. thanks in advance!
