UNLV Nursing Program
I'm a NSC student and for some reason I always say Nevada State Henderson. LOL I agree, I'm not in the program, but if you look at the reqs for the program, they are the same (just about) The school is run like UNR.

Advice On Schools
Hi, it's hard to say who has the BEST program, they are all good. UNLV has a lower pass rate but I don't know how many ppl drop, etc. CCSN has one of the best reps with students. It's pass rate is higher it's drop rate is high too! Nevada State Henderson is new, they haven't sent out a grad class yet but if you want an idea of their program look at UNR. NSH is the umbrella school of UNR...all their classes are the same. Good luck!

CCSN: In your own opinion
Hi there! I attend CCSN and Nevada State Henderson. I've decided not to go into the RN program but I can tell you when I was working towards it, everything was very easy to do. I recieved consistant information and the school was VERY helpful. I really like the school and thought the teachers where awesome! I wish I could tell you more about the program.

Bruxism
sorry, but don't wear the sport guards everynight. they are not made for that and can cause more problems. I have a night guard that's made from a very hard plastic, it's made to fit my bite and is very thin and comfortable. I'm a MAJOR grinder...always have been. I'm a dental assistant and the dds I use to work for was shocked at how I ground down this NG. He still hasn't seen anyone grind like me...lol

Breast impants..again..
One thing everyone needs to remember is just because you have breast implants dosn't mean you have big ol jerry springer stripper boobs. A lot of women who have them come from every aspect of life. Some have larger more "fake" looking boobs and others have more realistic. I bet you know someone who has them and you can't even tell. And just like very large women, small breasts can cause emotional scars. I had a friend who's uncle use to ask her if she was a boy (she had very short hair) and he would also tease her and ask when she was going to hit puberty (at 20) There is one part on every ones body that they are unhappy with and I can almost be that everyone would do something about it if they where given the chance. I had the chance and I'm very happy. This wasn't a gateway for me, I don't want to run out and get them bigger or get lipo or a nose job, I'm happy and my clothes fit.

Breast impants..again..
When you are as flat as a board and you go to try on everthing from bathing suits to fancy dresses and even regular shirts you realize these clothes aren't made for you. Bras had to be so padded to even fit into some clothes they where uncomfortable. Random remarks made to you about being flat as a board etc. It gets old real fast.

Breast impants..again..
VERY well said!!! I agree 5000 was well worth it!

Breast impants..again..
Mitchsmom...I think it depends on how big the person gets their boobs. I hardly look big in the midsection. Besides, you could say that for anyone who is large chested with out fake boobs.

Breast impants..again..
I have them. I was flat as a board...really flat. I did under the muscle. I did it for self esteem reasons but I first made sure it was the only self esteem issue I was having. They aren't too big or small, I'm very happy and no more self esteem issues. I guess I would say that now I feel like a woman and look like a woman. It's all up to you. Some ppl told me to wait until I have kids but even my mom is still flat as a board so I took the chance. Good luck in what you decide.

Nursing and body piercings
And your doing the same to a lot of ppl here. How would you like it if I found out something about you and then in turned called you low class or trash? I'm suprised you are even being allowed to sit here on the BB and call ppl names, names that are obviously ment to hurt.

I'm afraid my hearts not in it anymore
Thank so much everyone! I'm going to do the "big drop" today so it'll be offical. I also found out I can salvage this semester, there are 3 classes I can take that will count towards the SLP program. I also found out this program is under the umbrella of University of Nevada Reno so they pretty much expect the students at Nevada State to transfer up there for their Masters in SLP and Audiology. There are also 3 programs back in Philly...but if I had to choose between in state and out of state tuition...well, it's pretty clear to me. I'm a little nervous but looking forward to this transition. It was back in 96 that I shadowed the SLP and I'm so happy that I get to do it now. I'm not too far behind and all of my classes transfered easily...actually, the advisor kept asking me if I wanted to do elementry education because I had just about every thing I would need...we need teachers here just as bad as nurses...but I declined..can't imagine myself with a ton of little kids running around!! :)

If I hear 'C Nurses make the best nurses' one more time I will scream!
I agree with you for the most part. I still think it's funny that someone would be so worried. Ppl are going to question everything you do in life and if it starts with grades then deal with it. Oh, and BTW, just because some ppl state that grades are not something that they would kill themseleves over dosn't mean they don't take things seriously and they are not always the ppl barely makining it. Man, ppl, do you realized how elitist it sounds to say of I'm an A student and I'm so sick of hearing my prof say C's make the better nurse. I thought we already agreed that nursing school was a crock sometimes. And for the last time...stop assuming because a person say's they don't really care about grades that it makes them any lesser of a person, or good student for that matter.

thank you all! Hellllonurse...I first learned about SLP as a CNA on a floor with majority of stroke pts...it was so interesting to me.

I'm afraid my hearts not in it anymore
I have always wanted to become a nurse, and I still do. However, the issues surronding nursing are just enough to make me not want to waste my money...right now.... It's not the vents I hear here, it's just the reality of the field, the things I don't know if I can deal with. Today I had a meeting with the head of the Speech and Language Pathology program at the local college...this is something I always wanted to do but it was never available to me until now. So here I am at a cross road and I'm taking the SLP road. I think for my personal tastes this would suit me best. It has been a hard few months, I've been faced with a big choice. I think I have researched this path well and I suddenly feel like the weight of the world has been lifted from me. I am excited to start the program but a little sad that I am giving up (well, not giving up, just moving on) from my dream. But, dreams are one thing and reality is another. This isn't to say that SLP is the perfect job and I may not like it, but in the next year and half I will have my BA, If I decide I don't want to go on to my MA then I can always do an accelerated BSN program. I'm young, 27 and I am blessed with a future husband that fully understands and supports this choice I've made. No one ever said I have to know now what I want to do for the rest of my life! So I thank you all for the support and love that you give, and for the honesty and reality that you can get no where else :chuckle Thanks Iliel

you can stand by your belief and that's no skin off my back but I'm sitting here today, telling you that grades do not always matter to me. I refuse to kill myself over a freakin A. I am an A student and I get the feeling you think because I say grades don't matter then therefore I must be happy with mediocrity. That's crap! I don't try to take away from other when they get good grades and I don't look down my nose at thoes who do get C's. There is so much more I could say here but you ppl just aren't listening and believe that you are right so I'll let you own that! Cheers!

Oh boy...now we're wondering into common sense Vs book smart. That should be interesting. I think it's interesting that ppl assume because some of us will back C=RN, means we are getting C's. That's not true at all. Ya know, it is possible to blow a test and end up with a C and still know the material. There was a guy in my A&P class who blew tests all the time..major test anxiety, but he knew more than anyone else, he studied his rear off and he passed but with a C+. I still bet this would be different if some of you are getting C's. Oh. and HelloNurse, whats wrong if someone is proud of their C's? Are you saying you are better for not backing someone with a C? That they shouldn't be proud? Should they be ashamed? With your last post you just added to the ignorance of this thread. You ppl can flame me all you want...it seems every thread lately needs a whipping boy.

Nursing and body piercings
I agree that piercings should be taken out for work. Just the idea of one of them getting ripped out is enough to freak me out! My former work place had a policy and I followed it no problem, I knew this going into the job. I can always get repierced if I want at some other time, not a big deal. My tats...love them, they are who I am and if someone thinks I'm trashy, well then it's their problem not mine. If someone is so concerned with the idea that a woman would put a flower on her wrist and ankle, troubled enough to call her trashy then they need a serious wake up call to reality! Just about everyone has one! Grandmothers, grandfathers, WWI, WWII, Vitenam, Korea, Gulf War Vets. A friend who was in a car accident with her best friend who died has a tat of an angel to remember her...trashy...far from it! I am who I am and no amount of words like, trashy, low class, low rent, low income, white trash, or anything else you can think of will stop me from being who I am. Matter of fact...keep them words a'comin' cause they only make me stronger!

:chuckle I've been getting a kick out of this conversation personally. I'm also one of thoes "party animals" that makes A's. I've always been like that, go out, have some drinks until 3,4 in the am then go to class and take a test. I do fine. And please don't flame me and tell me I better not go in drunk to nursing school...I party, I'm not stupid. I've always been this way, I hardly study, it just comes to me. But that's me and I would never sit here and judge anyone based on grades...thats crap plain and simple. You are always going to find someone that fits the mold...A=great nurse or C=crappy nurse...there will always be someone there to back up your claim with. I'm sure 99% of the time you have no idea how well some one did or did not do in school. I bet this conversation would be very different if the shoe was on the other foot. And if you can say honestly that you wouldn't want a prof to pass you if you worked your butt off for a C then fine.

Nursing and body piercings
the right to expression is always OK, even if I agree with it or not. A tat on someone dosn't harm you or me in any way. and while you may not think you've singled out any single member by calling them trashy, you have singled out all the memeber who have tats.

Nursing and body piercings
Alnamvet...there is a difference between a person who has the N word tatooed on him and some one who has a flower..don't you think? Also, how can you sit there and call everyone who has a tat trashy when you don't even know these ppl? It's like assuming I'm a stripper since I live in Vegas or assuming a male nurse couldn't make it as a Dr. You are discriminating against ppl and maybe it dosn't come off that way in your care but how do you really know? For all you know there maybe someone in your circle that has a tat that you can't see but is afraid to tell you for fear you would think they are trashy? Also, how would you like it if I found out something about you and called you trashy or your loved ones trashy, low class, low rent?

Ok, I think maybe I wasn't very clear...I was NEVER trying to say anyone here is complaining about C or A or what ever students. I simply said I think it's strange that any A student would care what any one else get. And no, it dosn't happen in my school and I'm sorry that it even happens to anyone.
-
If I hear 'C Nurses make the best nurses' one more time I will scream!
I NEVER questioned the validity of your or anyone elses statement. I just think it's strange that ppl would do this to a A, B or C student. I think everyone is getting a little too uptight about this topic. Where is OP anyway? My question was this...why do you care so much about what is said to you in class? Who cares if some one assumes you are cheating. Are they taking it to the dean...prob not because they know they don't have a case. They prob are jealous that they aren't doing so well...and that's their problem. Geez ppl, I wasn't against you on this.

Thank you! I think it's strange to say the least that the "A" studnets are complaining about what they hear being said to the "C" students. Why does it matter? Why can't ppl just worry about themselves? Do you really feel that bad that you screwed up the curve..and if so why? Never have I seen this attitude in my school. No one is yelling across the room what did you get, no one cares. We all want each other to pass, we all want to see each other in the program in fall or spring, we help each other out in lab. I don't care what their grades are, I will support them and help them, and if they get a better grade in the end then me, then so be it. Besides, the A students know they are going to get through the program, the C students don't. I had a psy prof who told us about a girl in his class a few years back that just looked as though she felt like she was worthless and stupid, on her first test she bombed, but he told her she got a C and she was shocked (he said he lost the paper but had her grade written down) The next test she did so much better and she started to move to the front of the class, by the end she pulled her grade up to a A- (by herself, not with his help) and her confidence was improved 10 fold. Maybe this C thing is the same idea. Boost ppls's confidence so they can improve on themselves. Positive reinforcement. Really, if your an A student, you shouldn't care about this at all IMHO.
