University of Oklahoma-Accelerated BSN Program
No I didn't buy a bag, I did buy a pen light, but from amazon too, for $5. Buy less, you can always get things later if you think you need them. Everything you will use at clinical will be on the floor.

University of Oklahoma-Accelerated BSN Program
reply to nursevai: I am in the program, I had a decent GPA, L60 was mid 3's, Science was 4.0, other prereq very high 3's. Clinical experience doesn't mean anything for the program I would say 90% of student have never worked in health care before. If you didn't get in, it sucks. I am sorry. On the plus side however, the job market isn't very good at the mo, and lots of graduates, in SD and Glendale, are with out jobs and have student loans to pay back. Keep working toward the dream, but don't be discouraged if it takes a while, the graduate nurse market is flooded at the moment.

Volunteering for a midwife will it help my changes of getting a L&D grad job.
Hi, I am on my final year of nursing school, I want to work in Labor and Delivery when I graduate, I know the market is tight so I have been looking for opportunities to volunteer. The best opportunity I have found so far is interning for a small midwife practice, that primarily does home birth. I haven't had any success with try to get a L&D nurse assistant job and the only hospital volunteer jobs are serving tea and coffee. So, do you think working with a practice that dose home birth will help me get a grad job, or will it hurt my chances because it is too controversial? Thanks :)

San Diego New Grad Programs
Hi, I am a new nurse I was hoping to gain a little information about the grad programs at UCSD, Sharp or Scripps? I understand most programs go for about 4 months, you generally do 3 shifts a week, proctored? Then after 4 months your on your own? Do you have any flexibility over your shift in the first four months, do you mainly get nights or days, is it on your proctors schedule or is it a mixed bag and after the first 4 months do you have more say? Also finally, is there any secrets to putting down preferences and locations. ie. if I did my final preceptorship in school in med surg and I have a decent, but not excellent GPA am I out of my league by applying to ICU at Sharp Memorial? Should I aim lower to ensure getting a job and my foot in the door? thanks

University of Oklahoma-Accelerated BSN Program
Thanks so much for all the advice. On the job front, when do most student plan / hope to be working again, I am in the fall 09 class, I understand that I will graduate Dec 2010, so I was hoping to apply to the January 2011 Grad programs (applying Sept 2010) at Sharp and Scripps. Is that realistic? If it isn't are students, what are students doing? are they just waiting around for the next RN grad intakes, or is it possible to get an RN job without a grad program? Also, I wasn't planning to work during the program, but given the current job market, would past students recommend trying to get a nurse assistant job to get your foot in the door, thus have greater success getting that first job. It is kinda funny, I haven't even started but I am more nervous about finding a job than completing the program. thanks:) Re: University of Oklahoma-Accelerated BSN Program A few have some but all of those are outside of SD. I haven't heard of any here unless they were already employed somewhere and will be rehired as a nurse. I think we are all focused on the NCLEX right now. Wow! That is much higher than me, I am sure there are lots of factors though that go into their process of acceptance. Yep 9 hours, I heard, if you have a really recently completed your CPR you can leave at 6. 6 - 9 is the CPR course.

Laura, My I ask if you and your friend had above 3.5 GPA's? I am worried the bar is a little higher than I anticipated.

University of Oklahoma-Accelerated BSN Program
I heard they look at your cumulative GPA, your science GPA and most importantly your last 60 credits. That is the big one.

I asked the advisor at SD, she gave me all the details. I really hope I get in but I understand if I don't, my gpa is good, well I thought it was but know I am not so sure. Wow, I didn't know there were over 200 applications. That is crazy.

Hey, I applied Fall 09 to San Diego, I haven't received anything yet. But this is what I have heard the open House for SD is on the 21st of July goes from noon till 9pm, Orientation in the 12th and 13th of August. I have also heard the average lowest accepting GPA for SD is 3.1 with the average around 3.4 and 3.5. I did hear the lowest GPA they accepted in the summer was 3.3, which seems really high too me, I heard there are 171 applications and 65 places. Good luck to everyone, hope I found out soon. I really hope I make it but if I don't I will just keep taking classes increase my GPA and apply again. Good Luck!

Australian nurses registering in california help!
I have not registered yet I am still a RN student, studying externally from Australia, but I live and work in California. From all my research an understand you best bet is to go to deakin, and do their Professional Development Units in maternity and paeds, completely external, you just have to organise your own prac. cheers melanie http://www.deakin.edu.au/hmnbs/pdu/modules/index.php

The quickest way for foreign to get approved licenced in US
I just wanted to make sure I wasn't forgetting another area of nursing that board might be looking for. ie. community nursing. Thank you so much for your help. I hope my program is sufficent, I feel confident as I have over 800 surpervised hours as a student RN, and a total of 7 years university edu. in nursing and health science, but I understand only C brn can determine if I am eligible. i just want to make sure I have done everything to give me the best opportunity for sucess. So I don't need to worry bout where my visa or green card status is, c brn are only interested in the fact that I have an SSN? I will make sure I get all my transcripts sent in asap.

The quickest way for foreign to get approved licenced in US
Hi, I have been hunting for information everywhere and I just had another look on the california board of nurses site and this forum: From what I can gather the keys things that are essential for registration, I just wanted to get your impressions I am not missing anything: Theory / Experience - clinical prac / placement in: Microbiology Anatomy / Physiology Sugical nursing medical nursing Mental health nursing Paeds Maternity - Completed degree in Nursing, deemed equivlant to a US degree. - Licencing in you home country (optional but requested by california) - the right visas / green card Is there anything I am missing, from all my reading this is what I have determined is the most crucial.

Suzanne As per the question on your other post, I have a SSN, I live and work currently in San Francisco. But I am currently on the E3, after the wedding I will swap to a work card, which is when I will be applying for CA Licensure, my green card can take up to 2 years. so I don't know if I will have it by the time they assess my studies. Must I also have the green card before I apply??? If it helps I am a clinical research coordinator and at the time of my application I will be working in a UC hospital.
