"English Only" Rule at Work?
this is the best joke regarding this situation I have ever heard! so true, so sad. I am pretty sure a thread can be made about this as well. be well.........

It is me or them!!! I can't stand it anymore!
some previous posts have made good points: be a *****, be more assertive. but, i used to work at a place like that. the aides behaved that way becuase they know its hard to find good aides. they are allowed to get away with their behavior by management becuase its easier to have some bad apples than to look for good ones. and unfortunately in our line of work nothing happens until someone dies. so, its up to you to wait until that happens or find somewhere else where they dont have any aides or have those who beleive in teamwork. good luck!

be careful which agency you pick and the offers they make you. i personally know of a group of filipino nurses who came over through an agency and were forced to work in an institution for children on vents and they were short staffed, overpaid, underworked and even treated as housekepping staff. get everything in writing, confirm salaries, and get references from other employess, they cant deny you seek information on them. good luck!

travel nursing nightmare
well, i only worked 20 hours lat week. this week so far 20 as well. i did an orientation for another hospital. i have not received my permanent license, so i cant really do any per diem work any where else. which by the way i heard they pay up to 45/h for weekends. i consulted with 2 laywers and both have told me to go back home and sue them for fraud and to recup fees associated with that. so, there are no flights to san diego until this weekend and after that they are in the 800-1000 range. i have decided to stay for a month and then leave. i will consider legal action depending on how much money i am out. does anyone have any idea where i can launch a formal complaint? besides this forum, of course.

travel nursing nightmare
i have done nights and couldnt handle it. and they that knew beacuse it was during one of their assgnmts! and i told them before i would sign this contract i wasnt interested in nights. they just told me i wouldnt get paid for this week becuase i have been cancelled all week and i am unwilling, not flexible. so basically they dont see anything wrong with bringing me out there, not having work and not paying me.

travel nursing nightmare
i posted this comment on the general forum originally......... so I am a travel nurse. have been for a year now with the same company. to make a long story short, I am stuck in hawai'i. yes, I used the words "stuck" and " hawai'i" in the same sentence. last week I found out that someone in the contract department decided to change my availability to days/nights from my stated days/evenings. the local hawai'i office received one contract, i received another different copy. now am being asked to be flexible, my day shifts have been cancelled by the hospital becuase they dont need day nurses, they need night nurses. i have the email thread where i told me recruiter i wouldve be interested in night shifts. i cant work for any other local agencies becuase i was advised by my recruiter to "walk through" my hawaii license application instead of applying for a permanent one. this temporary license has a stipulation that i can only work for my agency. so, i have not worked for 2 weeks, going on 3. the local office is trying to get me booked at other hospitals but since i havent been to their orientation i have to wait. i dont know if i am going to get paid for every shift that is cancelled. i cant go sightseeing and enjoy the city becuase that means spending money i might not have. my landlord wont return my deposit if i leave. and to top it all off, i bought tickets for my mom to come out here and visit all the way from new york. in total i am going to be at a loss of almost $3 grand if i leave. which in turn will be more costly to me becuase of the geographic matter. i want them to remiburse me for all my acquired expenses. but, i am afraid to tell them i want to leave fearing they will say i am not cooperating. does anybody have any suggestions?

travel nursing nightmare
right now they are scheduling me every day. today is wed and have not worked all week. thye said they would work me on days, so they couldnt really schedule me for 24hrs with nights as well. they have not offered me any other options, wont return my calls and when they do they dont have any answers as to what is plan b. i dont know if i will be paid this week, they did last week. but, honestly i doubt they will keep me here without working whether they pay me or not.

thanks, i was wondering about that myself. i have asked to see it but nothing yet. however they have admitted it exists and that they will figure out what, how etc happened. my intentions were to leave from the start but feared i would lose any levereage in court if i didnt cooperate. fraud, huh? it had not considered it that way. i consulted with an RN attorney who advised me the same on keeping a paper trail. thank you so much for your comment. it seems to me like you wouldnt back down either, and you still have a nose ( see comment above)

no, healthwise for me its not an option. for those of you who find it easy to go between days and nights, that is your choice. thanks for your reply.

travel nursing nightmare
thanks, yes, my contract states day/eve. but, the branch received a separate contract from someone in the travel office stating day/nights. my recruiter emailed my contract on 2/21, i signed it and faxed it back. the local branch office states they received their copy on the same day. i have not seen it. i also have the email string where i told my recruiter i was not willing to do nights as part of the contract. the agency has already admitted wrong doing by stating i was never supposed to have this contract if i was not flexible. they also stated that they were going to investigate what went wrong. in the mean time i have been available to work every day at any hospital on any floor. just not the night shift since it wasnt what i signed up for. as of right now i dont know if i am going to be paid for the shifts the hospital is cancelling. they havent told me what they plan to do if they are unable to fulfill my contract. the BON said i will get my permanent license when all the paperwork is received. no rush process available. i arranged my own housing, but i will forfeit my deposit if i leave early. i have gotten several responses stating why dont i just do nights. well to me its unsafe to jump into the night shift on the short notices they give me. ultimately i feel corraled into an unfair position. i cant just change jobs. i am 3000miles away from home, family, friends and any other resource that could help me get throught this. i cant tell them, sorry this isnt working, bye. i dont have an apt back home. i made all arrangements to be here and ready to work. now i am being asked to be flexible, to be a team player under conditions where i dont have a fair choice in. thank you for your advise.

yes, i am in one of the most expensive places in the country. accepted this assignement under the impression i would be working days shift. i do not have the option of saying sorry, this doesnt work for me, get in my car and go back home. if you think i am the cuase of my problems becuase i dont accept their bate and switch deal, you are mistaken. i am asking for advise on how to deal with this situation without giving up my hard earned money i spent on housing, trnasportation and tickets. i dont expect you to know my work ethic, but i dont appreciate your assumption that i am staying home throwing a tamtrum. and FYI i havent been offered nght shifts either. the nursing shortage does not seem to be an issue here. or hospitals are severely strapped for money. or hawaiins are healthier than the rest of the country.
