West Coast Univ- Anaheim
clising, what program are you doing? BSN or ADN? Did you already get everything set for your start date? I'm meeting with financial aid on Thursday and hoping to start the BSN in Anaheim in Feb. 2010 too.

Gear for your first clinical day!
We also had to have our gait belt every day. I maybe used it once too. As for the white uniforms I definitely wore clothes underneath. I already had a pair of nude colored Spanx so I wore those under the bottoms, and I wore a plain white t-shirt under the top. Surprisingly I wasn't too hot! *And my "extra" clothes came in handy when I got soaked during my first shower! lol

Gear for your first clinical day!
In addition to all of the above, I learned after day one to always carry an extra handful of gloves in your pockets. They had them in all the rooms, but you never knew when you'd get that one room where no one had restocked!!

Questions about Cypress College ADN program
Wow, been almost a year since I was on this thread.. I remember when I went to the info meeting, they told me the same thing. A 25 you're in. A 24 good chance of getting in. 23, slim chance. And everyone else, you're on the wait list. Cypress is real competitive so unless you're already great at the "sciences", you should take each one separately and focus on each A one at a time. I have every general ed finished but I need to take all 3 sciences. Right now I'm just becoming a CNA to work and get some experience while I finish those last 3 classes. finnelzki, if you don't mind me asking, what schools did you apply to and which one did you pick for Fall? And congrats by the way!

How to become a CNA in California?
I just realized I didn't even bother to pay any attention to your user name. I think that would have helped with the whole Orange County deal huh?! haha Long day in class, sorry!! :smackingf:

How to become a CNA in California?
How funny. I'm like a 5 minute drive from Irvine! $1000?! WOW!!! That has to be because it's so accelerated. Yeah every school I originally looked into was 8-9 weeks. So I think it's either going to be a ton of dough, or a few extra weeks. Maybe check out: http://www.dhs.ca.gov/ or http://www.cde.ca.gov/ci/ct/rp/cna.asp#L I just started my program last week actually. It's 8 weeks and was around $250-$300 with EVERYTHING. But then again, it's about 40-45 minutes from where we live! I don't know how long it is, but Long Beach City College has a CNA equivalent course. If you haven't already, try looking into them and check out: 1. North Orange County ROP (Anaheim) 2. Coastline ROP 3. Central County ROP 4. Long Beach ROP As for the nursing homes offering CNA classes -- I've read that a few times in the message boards on here, but I've never heard of any actually doing that around here. That would definitely be a research project I'm afraid!! Hope this helped a little.

Which school should i pick?
Can't help you too much -- but I have heard nothing but good things about PCC. But then again, County is just historical! If I didn't live so far away I'd love to go there. Granted a lot has changed, but my mom and aunt graduated from there approx. 35 years ago and said it was so wonderfully intense and they learned so much from that school. They said it really set apart the women from the girls (or men from the boys for that matter)! Hopefully some current students from both schools will find your thread! Either way, good luck to you!!

CNA programs in orange or LA county
I believe the ROPs are free (with certain conditions), but you'd have to pay for your books, uniforms, etc. You also need to sign up quick because they fill fast!!! Believe me, I tried all the ROPs first! But you should look into these- Orange County: 1. Central County ROP 2. Coastline ROP 3. North Orange County ROP 4. Long Beach City College - has a training class that enables you to take the state test. Los Angeles County: 1. Citrus College 2. Chaffey College (maybe?) 3. Pasadena City College (maybe?) I know there are more in LA County..it's just a matter of searching around a bit. Right now I'm going to Citrus' program, and the class was $100 (but ended up free with BOGG waiver). Then we had to buy the book ($70-$100), uniform, gait belt, and a few health tests. Basically a couple hundred bucks for only 8 weeks...and I really like it so far! I hope this helps you out!!!

How to become a CNA in California?
Are you in Southern or Northern California? What county, and when were you looking to complete it by? If you're near Orange County there are several, and I know of a few in LA County as well that are close to Glendora, Pomona, etc. All the ones I came across are 8 weeks.

CNA class starts next week!!
Hi Priscila, I just started my first CNA class last Monday! Everyday is something new and I'm learning so much. I just wanted to wish you all the good luck when you start next week!!
-
How long did it take you to complete your CNA program
I start mine next month and it will be 8 weeks, 3 times a week. I was trying to get into a shorter more accelerated program, but around here they're all 8 weeks+.

I need California CNA Advice
Good evening all! Sorry, I couldn't find anywhere else to post this but I too need California CNA advice. Does anyone have any info about the "newer" school College of Medical Arts in Anaheim, CA? I am going to barely be able to get onto the RN program waiting list at Cypress College next year..then it's another 2 years wait. I was thinking of becoming a CNA and getting some experience while I wait. The school in Anaheim seems good but I can't find any good info (as in students currently attending/previously attended). Any info about the school would be great. Thanks for your time everyone and I hope you have a great night.

Questions about Cypress College ADN program
Hello everyone! I'm currently taking my prereqs and finishing my general education at Cypress College. I will complete my last 2 prereqs (Bio 220 and Bio 241) in Spring 2009. I know it was mentioned about not being able to get on the wait list until the prereqs are done..but any chance they let you if you're in that last semester of finishing them up? Or does no mean no. Any advice from current Cypress College nurses or those in my same situation would be greatly appreciated. I really want to go to nursing school and that wait list doesn't make it any easier!! Thanks all and have a great night! Sincerely, Ashley

children's hospital Los Angeles
I don't know too much technical info about working there -- but my aunt has worked there for 30+ years now and absolutely loves it!
