New Career....Newly Pregnant?
Congrats! I would wait out your probation period( 90 days). If you tell before, they could give any reason to terminate and you would have no say in it.Its not right but its how it works. Also, FMLA is not available until you have been employed 1 year. You will still get to take leave just not as much and not paid.Good luck!:redbeathe

What you get for nurses week
Yesterday the nurses and cnas( which I am ) got a 1000 calorie snack pack, if you walked to the cafeteria. I went to Hyvee and bought as cake. It was appreciated.:redbeathe The hospital I came from gave very nice gifts. Oh well, better pay and benefits work for me

Common terms and dx's in ICU
I start my orientation for the hospital ICU next week, as a CNA. My background is mainly med/tele and LTC. What are some abbreviations or "nurse speak" for on unit procedures, dx's, equipment etc. I would like to have a clue before walking onto the unit. I know what q2, prn, stat, etc are. Looking for more unit specific stuff. KWIM? Thanks so much!!!

Something Positive about your job!
I have had numerous positives since being an aide (13 years). One particular is a patient of mine (at the doctors office) send me a note at home to thank me for taking her concerns seriously . She had to go out of her way to find out where I lived. It just was nice. :redbeathe In the homes, it seems something happens everyday that reaffirms my desire to care for people. That being said, I start a new chapter in my life next week as a CNA in the ICU. I am very anxious to get started and make a difference not only in the patients life but the family.

Starting in ICU next week as a CNA
Hi ladies and Gents!!Hope you don;t mind me jumping in here. I am starting a new chapter in my life next week as a CNA in the ICU. My background is 13 years experience mainly LTC, telemetry and home health. Can any of you give me pointers as 1)what to expect and 2)what the nurses will want me to do. I am a bit nervous about all the additional lines that ICU patients have in though , like the vents and such. Any advice would be so greatly appreciated.I am so excited to get to be a part of the critical care team. Nervous nelly, Kerrie :bowingpur
