  1. I started 6 years ago at $10(the hospital pays for your training as long as you are there a year), and had a few increases. A couple of years ago, when we were very short staffed and the wages were not competing with the wages of jobs available in a resort town. We ended up with an across the board $3.00 more and hour. I actually got $2.90, still can't figure out why. This year for pay raises, management is discussing researching what wages are around the country and adjusting our wages accordingly. Thanks to all of you that have stated what are the wages around the country. I feel that I will have some idea of what to expect or some ammunition to bring to the table.
  2. Thanks for your responses! Western Wyoming...starting $13.00 and $2 for nights and $2 for weekends. From what I see so far, we are paid on the average what is paid around the country. A year or so ago starting wage went from $10 to $13. We were very short staffed, no one was applying. Now we have many that apply and take the class, but they don't seem to stay. We also have a sign on bonus, $500 after six months and another $500 after a year. You have to be in compliance with attendance and trainings etc. It was only $600 when I started. Does anyone else have similar incentives?
  3. :nuke:I was wondering what CNAs in other parts of the country make. The hospital I work for is starting this year's evaluation process. It is yet again a new process. I was told that they will be researching the wages of several positions to see how they compare. We may see some pay increases depending on what is found. I thought I would do some of my own research, just to see what I could find out. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
  4. I have been an aide on a med/surg floor and long term care for 6 years now. It has been a great job. I took the CNA class after being a stay at home mom and wanted to get back into the work force. No doubt that I have left work extremely tired. It is important to use good body mechanics and get help. The nurses that I work with are great. They do their best to help when it comes to repositioning and lifting. We have a program that targets back strength and good ergonomics. Strengthening your back and stomach are important to safe guard against injuries. I don't think age should be a hinderance to taking the class and working as an aide. But remember that it is tough work, lifting, bending, twisting, walking (miles and miles), stooping, etc. etc etc. Good luck
