Governors State University
Hello joanie2341, The program was a little challenging at times, but overall doable. I got my BSN fall 2011. I am glad that it is finally over and looking forward to completing my MSN. I like the fact that the school is nationally accredited, online based(mostly), and affordable. There is some disorganization but if you are self directed and motivated, you will do fine. I went full time and finished the program in one year. This was hard, but given the fact that finding a job in illinois was slim to non-exisitent, I pulled it off. I am currently working in an hospital finally and feel that my BSN really provided me with the jolt I needed to obtain the job. I look forward to hearing all of you guys success stories in the upcoming years. Take care and stay focused.

best advice for a nervous new grad
I am going to be holding my own this week as well. I am so nervous about the paperwork and procedures that go along with immunizations. I will be with some very seasoned nurses and I am the only new grad there. This is going to be interesting. I had to think about it and say that these same nurses were once a new grad nurse as well. Just take a deep breath and hold your head up high. Good luck to us all.

scrubs in chicago
Working class or working wear. They have one located in countryclub hills, illinois. I have purchased some from family dollar and walmart. Believe it or not Walmart has some cute scrubs that are made of pretty good material, but I like dickies and cherokee because I have hips and I am petite. Good luck with your search.

Governors State University
I am starting this fall on my BSN. If there are any nursing students out there that have attended the program, please post your experience here. I have read many posts on several universities, but have yet to come across one about this college. I am excited and nervous about my new journey. Any other nurses out there attending a nursing program this fall can post as well. Good luck to all of us.

University of Chicago Medical Center
Hello Livingthedream, As a new grad nurse, I just would like to know if they are hiring at this time. I have put in several applications, but have not received any communication back from them as of yet. Any advice on how to obtain employment would be appreciated. Also, is your BSN required? Thanks in advance.

Day in the life of a PHN??? Please respond.
I am intereted in Public Health Nursing as well. I am currently pursuing my BSN, but I am not sure on how to find a job in public health considering that all are occupied at this time in my state. If someone could give me some pointers on how you acquired your positions and what is required, I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance and congratulations to all of you that have already been hired.

NCLEX prep for students out of nursing school over several years
I would go with hurst and learning.ext because you will get a good review with both. The hurst review is a little more expensive than the learning.ext. The Ncsbn is affiliated with the learning.ext review. I would also look at the Saunders Comprehensive Review for Nclex Examination 4th Ed. There is a cd that you can do that has a ton of questions on it and the book compliments each other in my opinion. I just know when you are out for awhile, you really need a review that will break everything down. That is why I would look at Hurst before I chose Kaplan, but ultimately the decision is yours. I wish you and everyone else that has the opportunity to take boards now good luck. Also, check with your school that you came from and see if they have a review available. They may even give you a review for free or a reduce price because you attended their program. Once again, best of wishes to you and good luck.

Welcome NCLEX May 2010 Support Group
LGRB02, I have applied some of everywhere in the state of Illinois, but no cigar has of yet. I am reduced to interviewing for pct or cna positions just to get in the door. I think it is time for me to go bakc and get my BSN. Majority of the hospitals are magnet status and prefer experience of bachelor degrees. I know I should keep my head up and my ears open, but it is such a challenge. I am just glad that the nclex is behind me and I know that I will find a job soon. Good luck to all..

Welcome NCLEX May 2010 Support Group
HELLO MY MAY SUPPORT GROUP!! It has been a few weeks since I have been here and I am still looking for a job at this time. New grad postions are hard to come by right now. I really wish all of you good luck with endorsements and job hunting. If any of you guys have any info on jobs in Illinois then PM me or post here when you come across anything. Also, I took the exam three times as many know. I studied with saunders 4th ed, learningext, and hurst review. I want to thank all of you again that encouraged me and supported me in my time of great stress. NLNurse.... I agree with lollipop28 and lrgb02. Content is very important and the mneumonics in the random facts helped a great deal. Don't give up,stay focused, and remember that you have already proved yourself in school. This test is the only thing standing in your way of becoming a nurse. Don't let it. Good luck and you will always find support in this group.

Welcome NCLEX May 2010 Support Group
I just want to thank all of you guys for sharing your success stories and opening your hearts to one another. I knew when I came across this MAY SUPPORT GROUP that I was going to succeed. As we end this month, I want to leave it on a very positive note. Keep fighting te fight to be the best that you can be. Try to inspire and continue to support our fellow members in their fight to defeat the nclex. Never forget what you have read here and how far we managed to accomplish within this month and throughout nursing school. It was like we went through a form of boot camp together. some of us are still waiting to take the exam, so be proud of what you have accomplished and never give up on your dreams. Be Inspired. . . . I know I am. :yeah:

Higher2010, I would have your friend to call Dr. Martin and ask her whch hotels are located near her site. If they don't know of any, go to the Martin review website and click on the map directions link then the hotel link for nearby hotels. I only know of the Hyatt, but there are a few to choose from that are located close to the review site. The addresses for each hotel are listed and the numbers as well. I hope that this helps you guys.

Grace02, I understand perfectly how you feel, but rest assured that you are not alone. I felt like I wasn't ready each time I took the test(3X's). I want to let you know that you have to embrace this exam before you can pass it. You can not let fear hinder you from completing this goal. If you are not ready because you haven't been studying, then that is a different story. Sometimes you have to take a break in order to regain energy to study. It is okay to take a couple of days to just have some "you" time. I would study Monday-Friday 2-3hrs during the day and an hour at night. You can't retain your information if you are studying continuously for several hours. Your brain needs time to reboot. I don't know everything, so if there is a particular reason why you have lost focus that I am not aware of, please feel free to PM me if you want to discuss it further. I am here as a supportive colleague. Take care and you will pass. You just have to have faith and stay motivated. Good luck.

Welcome NCLEX May 2010 Support Group
Higher2010, I am so happy that I could be of some help to you when you needed it. I want to wish you congratulations on a job well done. I am very proud of all of our May support group. I just feel honored to have shared my failures and triumphs with all of you. I will continue to check on all May test takers until this month is completed. Shopaholic42488, The nclex exam has a lot of various topics on it, depending on the way you answer the questions. Just review your content, focus on lab values, prioritization, delegation, infection control, and know that every topic is fair game. I have to say that all of what you have been told about the nclex can vary, but knowing these things that I just mentioned would be what a new nurse on the floor should know. Like Marlene Hurst says, "You are considered a new nurse with only two weeks of experience." You are not expected to know everything. Think of what your instructors told you was important to know and what illnesses are normally seen. This is what you should definitely know. You will do fine. Check out the infection control neumonics and stay focused on the prize. I wish you all good luck.

thank you
Nurse_25, I want to wish you the very best at passing this time around. I have been where you are right now. I graduated in May 09 and it took me May 2010 to pass. I have two kids with disabilities and I had a lot of obstacles to climb through. You can do this because I did. Never give up on your goals. A setback is a setup for a comeback. Stay focused and keep fighting.
