Travis AFB
I left travis around 2009 but when i was leaving a civilian contractor took over base housing. To my understanding, they were building more than 600 new housing units so the housing on base shouldn't be that bad. I lived on base but i was an e-4 at the time with a family and the housing was pretty decent for being enlisted and all. I could literally wake up 10 minutes before work and get their right on time =D.

Navy Reserve Nursing
Hello, My wife is a nurse with 2 years of experience under her belt. She talked to a San Diego Reserve recruiter. They had told her that she would come in as an 0-2 with a 10,000 sign on bonus. She could be stationed at any reserve base around the world. But i told her to go active because that's the way to go!! HOOYAH!

Life as a Navy nurse (pros and cons)
My wife is joining the navy at the end of the summer. Active duty side. Have you thought about the reserves? Training is only 2 weeks and you drill 2 days a month/2 weeks a year. They were offering her a 10 thousand sign on bonus but Active is much better. You have probably made your decision already but i'm pretty stoked that she's joining. Active duty side is in need of nurses right now, so i'm pretty sure that they are giving bonuses a loan repayments out like crazy =D

Are you almost there? Number of classes left?
Momof5, i give you props for doing what you are doing. I have a 4 yr old, and my wife is going to give birth soon (may 16) and im taking 3 classes this summer semester! There's going to be alot of sleepless nights and alot of studying, but like my mother always told me, "take it one day at a time" If its your dream to be an RN, then go for it. You only live once, and its only going to benefit you and your family in the long run. If its to much, you can always wait till your kids are a little bit older. That seems to be the case with many of the students in my classes. I just want to wish you Good luck and give you props for what you are doing for you and your family. Theres not alot of people that can do that. Godbless, E:bow:

A.D.N. or B.S.N... what do you think?
Hi Amy, From what im hearing, the starting pay for both ADN and BSN are almost the same. But i believe some management position require you to have a BSN. In my opinion, i would go for my BSN. Especially if you want to go for your masters, its only one step ahead. Good luck! E

Moving to LV
Hye jordiemom, Im kind of in the same predicament as you. My wife graduated last semester from the nursing program in UNLV and loved the exp. she had. I believe UNLV is more recognized than the other schools in Las vegas. So if you do decide to attend UNLV, here is their chart of transferable credits they will accept from the list of schools in CA http://financialaid.unlv.edu/dars/tcetables/#state-CA Just pick your school, find your classes, and the rest says is all. If you do have classes that wont transfer over, you can challenge that with a certain form. I dont know what form is it, but get with the nursing advisor and he/she will get you through it. Hope that helps! E

Transferring to UNLV
So i know now that i can challenge my classes to be transfered, which somewhat brings my stress level down. So it comes to this. How easy is it to get into UNLV as a transfer student with 24 transferable credits with a 3.5 gpa? My plan is to apply before winter break for the fall semester of 09 in UNLV.

Transferring to UNLV
Thanks guys, I also found this in the UNLV website. http://financialaid.unlv.edu/dars/tcetables/ Its basically a system that shows whats transferable from other schools to UNLV. Wish i had known this earlier, i just found out one of my classes is not going to be accepted. I will officially apply and see what i can do to get em waived. Im going to need all the credits i can get.

Transferring to UNLV
Has any one had any problems transferring to UNLV from a Community college from CA, or any other state? Im attending Solano Community college, and i plan on transferring fall semester of 09 hoping they will accept my pre req units. Is there some way i can know what they will and will not accept? E

Are you almost there? Number of classes left?
Im so far behind, but im still holding on to this dream on becoming an RN. You guys are going to laugh but i am taking prequisites for my pre reqs towards nursing. i have about 14 more classes to go, and being in the military, im limited to 2 classes per semster. Good thing i only have 1 year and a half left in service. By the time im done, i would only have 6 more classes to go. When that time comes, ill be taking all 6 classes all at once! BYAHH! Hopefully i can get accepted in a nursing program ASAP. But i doubt thats going to happen since i live in CA. the estimated wait is some what around 2 years. hopefully that will change by the time im done. And for anyone who lives in the sacramento area, UC davis is now going to be opening a nursing program soon. So stay tuned! Godbless and much:redbeathe E
