  1. Hello Everyone, I am a new nurse, and I recently moved to Georgia because my spouse is in the military. I have applied with every hospital you can imagine and I have not had any luck. It's just really discouraging. I have even went to these places in person and passed out resumes, cover letters, spoke with staff, nursing managers, HR departments. You name it and I probably have already tried it. One HR representative said they have these periods when they hire new graduates and when they hire more experienced nurses. I have seen the Augusta chronicle and in the career section shows the need for nurses. I have already applied and went there to. Another hospital is actually laying people off and has put a hold on hiring for the moment, and they usually hire new nurses. At this point I just don't know what else to do. Can anyone give me some advise?
  2. I AM SO HAPPY FOR YOU AND PROUD TO SAY I CAN RELATE TO YOU BECAUSE I JUST FOUND OUT THAT I GOT IN. I CRIED LIKE A BABY WHEN I GOT THE NEWS:crying2:. I RECEIVED A LETTER IN THE MAIL AND MY CLASSES BEGIN ON JAN 12 2009, IT HAS TAKEN ME FOUR YEARS OF TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS (CONSTANTLY MOVING,DEPLOYMENTS, PREGNANCY, AND PREREQUISITE NIGHTMARES) TO FINALLY GET TO THIS POINT AND IT WAS SO WORTH IT. MY HUSBAND IS CURRENTLY DEPLOYED AND I HAVE 2 KIDS (8 MONTH OLD AND 5 YEAR OLD. I DIDN'T REALLY HAVE ANYONE TO SHARE THIS MOMENT WITH ME BESIDES MY KIDS AND EVERYONE HERE. I APPRECIATE EVERYONE FOR POSTING THEIR EXPERIENCES THROUGH THE PROCESS THAT THEY HAD TO GO THROUGH BECAUSE IT TRULY KEPT ME GOING, ESPECIALLY WHEN I FELT EXTREMELY DISCOURAGED. CONGRATULATIONS!! TO YOU AGAIN:yeah:
  3. Well, I am currently a single mother of an 8 month old and a five year old. My husband is currently deployed and will not be back until August 09. I am already exhausted from a current pharmacology class that I am taking. Plan A: is to get one of my family members over here to help me with my kids and sanity. Plan B: Lots of praying.
  4. Hi everyone, I took A&P 1 already and now I am going to take general biology this summer starting on June 9th. I took it last summer and I was pregnant with morning sickness and I eventually withdrew from the class. The professor I had then was horrible and I did not want to take her this time around. Unfortunately I am stuck with her once again because during the summer there are only 2 biology professors and her schedule is the one that works for me. Man, she really sucks and I am so nervous and terrified when it comes to this class:crying2:. When I mention who I have for biology people are like why in the world are you taking it with her.(I just don't have a choice) and plus this is my last class needed for the RN program. I have a lot riding on this class and I really need to get an A. Please pray for me because on top of this my husband is currently in Iraq and I am taking care of our 4 year old daughter and our 3 month old son.
  5. How I wish that I could take online classes, but the thing is I just have science classes left. I have pretty much taken everything already. I just need general biology, A&P 2 and Micro. I have to be present for those classes, because i need to do the labs. I plan on taking Biology this summer and then A&P 2 this fall. Before we got stationed here I finished a lot of my classes, because I took classes from the BSN degree plan. I looked into taking my science classes online but the school that i am going to they do not have any online science courses. I even tried to look into taking them online with my old school in Florida, but they only do the lectures and not labs. I have to have both. So I pretty much have to show up. What is really driving me up the wall currently is the biology class I need this summer because I have to get an "A" in it and the woman I am taking it with is no joke. This is the last class I need for the program at my school and I just feel a lot of pressure on my shoulders right now. With my husband being deployed, and having to take care of my kids with no help. Really just adds on more to my plate. Please pray for me guys,
  6. Some day a nurse, thank you for your words of encouragement, and your appreciation. Cool peach, I agree with some day a nurse, you are amazing and definitely inspirational. I am also so happy for you that you are almost there. As far as my situation goes there are some pros to my family being stationed here in Texas because the school that I am going to does not have a waiting list and I have a very good chance of getting in. As far as my family goes they are in south Florida and I did think about going back home but trying to get in a nursing program at most of their schools is pretty challenging. Then there are other thing that I have to consider when it comes to my kids and moving again. So I am pretty much stuck here. If I do get in the program here there is no way that I am going to leave because I just have to finish. I spoke with my DH about it and he understands. He is trying to figure out what he can do so the both of us can stay until I am finish. What sucks is if we do stay here he can be deployed again for another 15 months. I do want to thank you cool peach for sharing your story because it shows people if they want something bad enough they can have it and there should be no excuses. I also love to hear how some mothers manage to do what they do. God bless you, Surromom, You can relate to my situation because being a military spouse is so hard. You have 11.5 months and I have 14 months and 1 week to go. (Mine just left early this month) I believe if you can get through a deployment you can go through anything. (So bring it on nursing school). That is really awesome that you are going to be able to stay and go through school. Are you going to have to redo any of your science classes? I am determine to stay and I am not leaving this place until I have my degree. Good luck to you and I will keep you and your family in my prayers.:heartbeat
  7. Hello to all future nurses, I feel like I have been taking classes forever, and finally I am getting closer to my dream of becoming a nurse. Biology is my final prerequisite left to get in the program, and I am taking it this summer. I am aiming to start the N Program in Jan 09, I am almost there.
  8. My heart goes out to you, because I cant imagine having anything else added to those two classes I mentioned. Don't you just hate when you end up with those professor's that make matters worse. Just keep hanging in there and you will get through it. Here is a link to a web site that should be able to help you. If you are seeking any career in the medical field you will find help here. it's called Quiz central. There are tons of games, quizzes, flashcards and etc. http://www.medtrng.net/quiz1.htm Thank you for the advise, and good luck.
  9. I am seriously thinking about taking Anatomy & P II, and Pharmacology together, but i was wondering would that be to much. I am attending a community college which incorporates the A&P II and Pharmacology in their nursing program. I do have the option of taking these classes before I get into the program. Any suggestions or words of advise? :uhoh21:
  10. I started taking my prerequisites in the fall of 2004, and I am still not even in the nursing program yet. My husband is military and we are always moving around. It becomes so frustrating because when you go to a new school there are new rules. Right now we are stationed in Texas and I did not need biology at the school I was in prior but now I have to take general biology because the new school that I am attending requires this course for their nursing program. This is the only class I need to get into their nursing program and I already missed the deadline for August 08. So right now I am aiming for Jan. 09. I have two kids one is 4 and the other one is 5 weeks old. My husband is currently in Iraq and wont be back till sometime next year. There are people telling me to put it on hold and just deal with what is on my plate, and those same people are the ones who think I won't become a nurse because of my situation. However, it does not discourage me it just makes me more fired up to finish school. I am doing this for my own personal reasons as well as for my family. I took A & P # 1 while pregnant and continued class right after having my baby because I just don't want to waste anymore time. Being involved with the military you never know when you have to up and leave. I always have my head in my books and one foot bouncing on my newborns bouncy chair. Even with the stresses of being a military spouse I am still trying to find a way to accomplish my goals of being a nurse. I really don't know how I will manage once I am selected, but I will just cross that bridge when I get to it. I can be a mother, wife and a student. I am just hoping that I can stay here long enough to finish and not have to deal with any other dilemma. Is anyone else having things thrown at them and making things difficult to go to school?
