so, hmm 2 private prisons in Ault. :o and gang/school problems in greeley. a lot of strikes but still have a lot of positives in our list, nothing is set on stone yet family and I are still doing this 'pros and cons' thing.

Hi Hannahrn, My family and I took I-70 better scenic route and a lot faster!! I'm too from So.Cali thinking of relocating to Northern Colorado. Coming back home we took I-25 South to 40West this was the longest boring drive and it's a lot longer. I recommend the I-70 through Nevada/Utah. Good Luck to you!!!

I read that there were rumors of a prison in Ault some are against it and some are for it. Is Northern Colorado that desperate for jobs that they are willing to have a medium security prison in their community? My family and I are really wanting to relocate but all these 'bad news' are making us doubt, maybe will consider another area in Colorado.

Thanx for the info. The builder's sales rep warned us about this specific middle school in Greeley to avoid. I notice a lot of the houses there have basements are tornados possible?? Where are you located?

My family and I are really interested in moving to Northern Colorado early 2007. We visited No.Co in April we found it very nice and simple living. A lot of the locals say the economy is not very strong up there now. A lot of industry went to other countries so many people lost their jobs some would commute to Denver or it would take others up to 3 months to find a job. But what we saw while we were up there was a lot of 'building', new construction homes to retail shops. So, the economy can't be that bad right? Well I'm an RN (4 yrs) and DH is a Electrician (8 yrs). I hope we won't have trouble finding employment. A broker told me that high incidents of foreclosures and BK's there? Is this true. Thanks. P.S. we are from So.Cali

in my hospital it used to mean 'Violence' it was changed a couple years ago to 'code gray' due to complaints and significance of 'Code Black'.

I have the Med Calculations Test this Thursdays my co-worker who's ahead of me in the process told me don't worry about it. I would really like to get in.I'm burnout with Acute Care nursing. It's Staff RN with the Sheriff's Dept. Is it competitive to get in? My co-worker already got hired just awaiting background check which can take up to 2 months.Why so long? How extensive will it be? I'm clean nothing to hide.

Just applied to my local sheriff's dept for staff nurse.What I heard they are 8 hour shift/40 hours a week with weekend commitment. Hypothetically if it's your weekend on then you only need to work 3 days on the weekday for example; M T W Sat Sun if it's your weekend off then you'll be there the following week; M T W Th Fri. But then you'll be there 7 days straight counting back from your weekend on;Sat Sun M T W Th Fri. That's 7 days straight. Wouldn't that be too much? Sorry to confuse everyone. Am I right ? It's a 2p-10p shift. TIA

"they have mandadted the "No One Gets the Point" program...which means that if someone asks for directions on how to get to x-ray, soda machines, bathrooms, etc, they are ESCORTED not just pointed in the right direction - NO EXCEPTIONS...if you are too busy to show them where to go, find someone who can take care of it. I was so wanting to be in the middle of CPR and have some jerk barge in wanting to know where he could get a sandwich, so I could climb off the table and show him where the vending machines are...but darn it..." CotJockey, No way!! That's madness. The positive thing that we all can leave we have the choice of doing so. But I do feel bad for the 'contract/sponsor' foreign nurses who just gotta swallow their dignity until their contracts expires usually for 2 years. It sucks that I got burned out now, I usually do a lot of extra days prior to christmas so my family and I have the best holidays. I don't even want to go and do my regular days anymore.

I'm in the process of looking around to see what else is out there. One of the original reasons why I went into hospital setting was the 'prestigousness' my mother actually told me to work in a hospital she states it looks and sounds better than working in a SNF (no offense) and I will get the most experience. Well been there done it so the journey goes. I've been applying here and there. I honestly feel like my license is always at stake working on the floor. I know management doesn't care cause I'm dispensable and replaceable. If you complain your in their sh*t list.

I'm getting out of Acute Care (Med/Surg). Tired of the politics and drama. They are making me hate nursing. The 'they' are managements and unappreciated people you encounter.Everything falls on 'the nurse'. Pharmacist needs clarification order they can't call the doctor the nurse must the doctor is in house.Another example Xray Dept. calls the nurse asking for the nurse to call transporter to pick up the patient for a procedure, like your just sitting there waiting for their phone call. I use to love going to work I would add on extra days now I drive feeling nauseated as I get closer to my workplace. I've been there 3 yrs and 10 months. They want you to perform 'up par' and be 'the best' but they are not giving you resources to do it. You state your complaints and concerns verbally and in writing nothing gets done. You just get labelled as a 'complainer' or 'always whining or bitching'. You can't ask too much questions cause your colleagues will label you as a 'dumbass'. But if something goes wrong first thing management will say, "We are here for you why didn't you ask me questions". There's a limit of asking for a 'favor' from your charge nurses or else you will be labelled as a 'lazy ass'. Can't ask too much help even if your drowning and walking the hallways with your head cut off like a chicken. On top of that they will give you another admit. You also got your CNA's telling you what to do and if you don't go there to help pull or lift a patient instantly when they call then they talk about you how 'he doesn't help/she doesn't help'.We could scratch their backs but they can't scratch ours(a nurse said this when I was in clinicals long ago). Got written up because my patients son called administration telling them I was rude when simply I was following HIPPA (long sad story). Damn if you do, Damn if you don't! My co-workers and I call our DON's office "The Principals" office. I can go on and on. I'm simply tired of it. These are some examples of my experience as a acute care nurse some personal experiences and some what I observe. I do love nursing and taking care of the sick I love having the knowldege I have but what kills it is the politics side of being a staff nurse. One of our supervisors said 'it's going to be the same everywhere the drama, the BS.' I sure hope not. I think it's time to move on.. These are my current emotions::angryfire

my current hospital is hiring foreign nurses left and right. Are hospitals being given a tax break or some kind of benefit if they chose to hire foreign nurses and sponsor them? Our director didn't hire a local grad ADN nurse but choose to hire foreign nurses who has big time language and culture barriers doctors, pharmacy and patients alike are upset because the degree of difficulty trying to speak to these nurses and trying to understand their needs. Our current nurse recruiter is of a certain descent and now we see an increase in hiring foreign nurses from his country.The staff are thinking he is prolly connected to a business in his native land of sending nurses here in the U.S. for work. If so, then isn't that convenient.

Hi thanks for the info. The HR rep said Med Center of the Rockies isn't hiring yet.. staff at least. I'm an RN. I'm hoping when it gets closer the hospital will offer some great relocation package. Hi all, DH and I are thinking of relocating to Northern Colorado from So.Cali. What do you guys think of a good 'Relocation Package' should consist.The hospital I have an eye on have relocation bonus up to $5,000 (it's more like a reimbursement though). No sign-on bonus as of now but I think that will change once the hospital is built and they are desperate for nurses. The hospital is affiliated with a company that assist relocated employees. I would love sign on bonus, and employer assisted housing easy to obtain mortgage or closing cost paid by the employer, the hospital will get a tax break if they offer this (like what Riverside Community Hospital in the IE offered they pay closing cost on new mortgages.) Anybody have something else to add so I can mention it to the nurse recruiter when the time comes. Thanx

Hi County, Don't waste your time applying at Kaiser. They don't take Excelsior grads anymore because of some Excelsior Alumni who messed up.

DH and I are seriously thinking of relocating in CO were are currently in So. Cali. We want to see mountains and snow and serenity. Looking at pictures of Loveland it looks so tranquil. We want to raise our children in a nice atmosphere. I read Loveland is family oriented. DH went to CO back in 2000 for work in Evergreen though he says it's nice. Anyways I've been researching all day today. Loveland is blooming seems like. I got my eyes set on Medical Center of the Rockies will open early 2007. I called HR of PVHS they are not currently hiring until 2006. The recruiter mention pay range of $21.77 New grad, $31.04 with 20 plus experience (I'm not sure I heard her right on that one). Anyways, I was like deng!! that's it. I think she heard me cause HR rep continued, "Well, you have to take in consideration that the cost of living is a lot less expensive than Cali". Rep was very sweet, she told me the best way is to check out the website and the will announce hiring. So, I guess I need 'Endorsement' from Colorado Boards of Nursing, is that a long process? Also, any info in Loveland will be appreciated. Thanx

Ohh my gosh. You sound like me 2 weeks ago. My colleagues received their results in 2-3 days. Mine took 8 days to get results. I was going insane. Keep your head up, I know it's hard.
