  1. It a little bit different for everyone. My name appeared on the brn website within 2 business days after the exam. With the VN boards...it was about 4 weeks before the letter arrived in the mail. GOod LUck
  2. In our NICU, we can were simple flat wedding bands. For other infection control: we change isolette's weekly for stable babies, scrub for three minutes at the beginning of the shift, clean all access ports on any central line with three alcohol wipes for 20 seconds each..... Hope this little bit helps.
  3. I think it's definitely possible. Some areas in california may be a bit more expensive for rent/utilities ect. Definitely do some research on apartments in the area you wish to choose compared to starting new grad pay. Some hospitals also offer relocation pay for your moving expenses. Make sure to talk with the nurse recruiter at prospective hospitals. Their a great resource. Good Luck!
  4. I agree with the post that some areas of calif may not have nursing shortages. Do some research of the hospitals in the area you are thinking of moving to. I recently looked at hospitals in the LA area and came across many openings for new grads! Don't be discouraged.
  5. Yep. Foley's are best when g-tube comes out.
  6. UCLA has a great new grad program. It is a year long program with monthly new grad meetings and a "graduation" at the end. I would imagine each unit is specific on the actual amount of one on one orientation. I had an 8 hour class weekly and 2 12hr shifts with my preceptor. It was a total of 36 shifts with a list of competencies that you needed to be checked off. Once off orientation I was still scared to death but was surrounded by people who would help in a heart beat. I feel like the program prepared me as much as possible. The health benefits seem pretty reasonable to me. Vision and the basic dental plan are 100% paid for by UCLA. Hope this helps. Good Luck.
  7. Don't stress. The NICU can be overwhelming and emotional. The nurses probably wont expect much when your there....just to observe and take it all in. Be interested and ask questions. Good luck!
  8. Hang in there. I took the NCLEX last june and thought for sure I FAILED. I felt completely horrible. To my surprise I passed. From experience with my friends...I don't think you can tell your results from the number of questions you got. Good Luck!
  9. Maybe not my phone number.... but maybe my e-mail. I work in the NICU and love to keep in touch with my babies families once they are discharged home.
