Great question, heartnurse! I was wondering the same thing. IN addition, does anyone know if you have your ADN and are interested in a RN(ADN) to MSN, does the same rule apply??? I mean you are STILL and undergraduate. TIA.

:yeahthat: Exactly what Noellelyn said! No preference for ANY thing, just solely pre-req GPA. DXJoe, with a 3.648 I would say you are pretty much in unless it is a fluke of super high GPA's when you apply. Cari

Sl1001~ First of all, congrats on choosing nursing for your career!! Like yourself, I am an Air Force Wife to my enlisted husband. We have three children together and I do not work. For the last two years I have been a full-time student and a SAHM, so financial it has been rough. I am just starting the actual Nursing program in three weeks....so I still have two more years. However, without you working I'm sure you will qualify for a pell grant and other income related grants. Plus look into STAP-Spouses Tuition Assistance Program at your Education Office on base,,,,depending on where you are stationed they may have more or less to offer. Also, for the first time ever I applied for Foundation Scholarships that are given away at my school and I was granted two..the first time around. So there is plenty out there, it's just a matter of digging to find it. This semester I will actually be able to use some of the scholarship money for daycare......so take advantage of everything you can. Keep your head up and you too can make it financially!! Hi DXJoe~ Let me clarify, the "cut off" was the lowest GPA's that were granted admission. My GPA was very close to yours at a 3.667 and I got in my first try. You should have noooo problem getting in. Hope that helps. Unfortunately, your current Bachelors and EMT certification has no impact on your acceptance....strictly GPA at HCC. Noelellyn~ Hey there.....so you have Prof Treat. I had her last summer for Micro, so it is true that everything is crammed in there in only 10 weeks. But study and pay attention to the diagnosis scenarios at the end of each chapter. I know what you mean about being "out of the loop" though as I took an almost 10 year break from HS to college.....so it was a little rough at first but you will do fine. Hi everyone I was wondering if you can help me out!!! I currently receive a pell grant that pretty much includes all of my tuition and most of my books. And I have a scholarship that help with the rest of books; however, in the fall I will be starting the actual nursing program and because of the hours I will need to pay for before and after care for my children. I've heard of people using there student loans for rent, food, etc. I'm just wondering if it is allowed for things such as day care? And will they even grant it to me considering pretty much all of my up front tuition and books is already paid for???? If so, can a figure out ahead of time how much of the Stafford loan I would actually need to borrow or do I have to take the full amount?? Thanks......any help is appreciated. Cari

Noelleynn~ First off, no need to apologize for the questions. I'm happy to help out if I can. Very pretty name......BTW, I wasn't very creative either. As Cari is my first name and Elizabeth my second. Yes, Oh My Gosh, I got my CNA years ago when I was 19-20(showing my age here), then I joined the military to start my career. After being a medical laboratory technician, I met my husband and we started a family, I chose to get out of the military and put my career on hold to be a SAHM. I always knew my heart was in nursing, but my first dream was to be a wonderful mom. Then a fantastic friend pushed me to go back to college. With a understanding husband, i was able to be a mom and go to school in the evening and finally pursue my dream. Sorry, that was really long. Being a CNA, confirmed my aspiration on wanting to be a nurse yet I wanted my job to be a little more rewarding. In addition, as I'm sure you know the pay isn't that great! I've thought about that too....why didn't I just get the ball rolling years ago?? BUT, what you have to remember is you are doing it now!!!! And two years from now, you'll be saying wow I'm so glad I gave it my all and I could have put it off for another fiver years....but I DIDN'T!!!! So kudos you! And there is definitely NO Time Like the Present! Unzie~ GL with your last week of Micro! I'll be celebrating next weekend after finishing Chemistry .....as I'm sure you will be too! No, I do not plan on working as hubby has been the bread winner the whole time I was in school and raising three kids. buzkil~ Just FYI, for your friend who already has her LPN. Transition option. Individuals who are LPNs or Paramedics are eligible to enroll in an accelerated program leading to an associate's degree in nursing and subsequently be in a position to take the licensing examination. There is also a military medic option designed for members of the armed forces of the United States who are also licensed LPNs. The program is designed to assist these professionals pursuit of a degree (ADN). This program is offered once a year on the Dale Mabry campus. compassionate1 is exactly right with all the pre-req and then the additional classes you'll need during; however, I have never been told anything regarding an entrance exam. Am I missing something here? RDW13~ Thanks once again for the info. It was helpful to know when clinicals would start, how lab worked, and all the info on the books. Although the schedule is available for viewing online, we were told not to register for our classes until after that. Is that the time you are referring to registering? Right after orientation? BTW, how picky were they about the no trim color in the shoes. I know they have to be leather with no mesh, but what if they are shox with a tad of light gray on the swoosh? Are they that picky? And I know this may be a sticky topic...how are they on nose piercing? It's a tiny tiny stud. Did any one in your class have to deal with this? I know only one pair of stud earrings and such but was wondering if I could just get a clear ring for my nose or if it will have to come out completely. Personally, I know it body jewelry is frowned upon, but I honestly believe it doesn't affect my care I would provide as a nurse. JMHO. Wow, you go! Glad to hear you are liking it so far, as I've heard some say the teachers weren't that thorough, yada yada. Hmmm, I was hoping the syllabus were similar a tleast when it came to book sin such as I have already been eyeing some on Ebay. I will just wait till orientation.....did you get a syllabus then? Yes, My orientation is at Dale Mabry in June. I hope you don't mind, I have some question for ya! Did you start clinicals you first week or so? Now, are you in the night time classes? If you're not....on the day of clinicals where they give you a choice between two days....how do they decide which day you do? Is it first come first serve or what? Is your lab time configured into your class time. For instance it states, I will be going Tues & Wed from 1230-330(is that including lab or could it be before or after???)then clinicals on either Thur or Fri. Just wondering so I know what to expect. Wow, most of your class is right at the 80%!!?? Yikes. I'm going to focusing focusing, focusing!!!! However, I do have three kids, but a fantastic hubby. I was wondering if you have kids and if it has been challenging to work around their schedule as well? Sorry, if that's too personal. Congrats on almost finishing NP1!!
